Chapter 1135 The Cowardly Person

Facing Hannah's accusations, Lisa didn't show a hint of guilt. Instead, her face turned red with anger, and she slapped Hannah hard. "How dare you talk to me like that? I'm your mother!"

Hannah let out a cold laugh, finding the term "mother" utterly ridiculous. "People say mothers are the best, the most selfless people in the world! Mothers are supposed to be a safe haven for their children! But you? I've never felt warmth from you, and I don't even know what it's like to have a mother.

Do you know? When a classmate got sick and her parents rushed to take her to the hospital, I was so envious.

When it rained and classmates' parents came with umbrellas to pick them up from school, I was so envious.

When they were bullied or wronged, and their parents stood up for them, I was so envious.

Every time I saw you take Oliver to the amusement park, I was so envious.

Every time I saw you buy toys and clothes for Oliver, I was so envious." She listed countless examples in one breath.

By the end, she was crying again.

Suddenly, she felt like the most pitiful person in the world.

"When others were being cared for by their parents, I had to take on the responsibilities of the family. Even then, I had no complaints. I just hoped you could give me even one percent of the love you give Oliver.

I just hoped you could look at me and acknowledge me as your daughter.

But you didn't!

In your eyes, there's only Oliver.

You never see my worth!

When Oliver fell, you hit me, saying I didn't protect him well!

When Oliver fought with classmates, you hit me, saying I didn't protect him.

When Oliver skipped school, you hit me, saying I didn't keep an eye on him.

When Oliver's grades were bad, you hit me, saying I didn't tutor him as his sister.

I'm just one person; I don't have superpowers. I can't handle everything.

As a mother, you can't watch him every second, let alone me!" Hannah continued to cry as she accused Lisa.

"Today, your money went missing, and you didn't even ask Dad or Oliver. You just assumed I stole it! Why don't you trust me?

Why are you so sure I stole it? Sometimes I wonder if I'm really your daughter. Why do you treat me worse than a stranger?

You vent all your dissatisfaction with life and the unfairness of fate on me.

I'm your daughter, not a punching bag.

I always thought that if I tried hard enough, I could earn your approval and love. But I was wrong! No matter what I do, you won't see it, won't like me, and think it's all my duty."

Every word she said seemed to be soaked in blood.

Anyone who heard it would be moved.

But Lisa wasn't.

She felt nothing, only that her daughter was defying her, challenging her, making her lose face.

As Hannah prepared to continue her accusations, Lisa raised the feather duster again, ready to strike.

At that moment, the front door opened.

Oliver walked in with his hands in his pockets.

Seeing Hannah covered in bruises, his face changed, and he quickly ran over, snatching the feather duster from Lisa and shielding Hannah behind him. "Why are you hitting Hannah again? Are you crazy? Look at what you've done to her!"

Lisa's hands trembled as she pointed at Hannah. "Move aside! I'm going to beat her to death today! She's young and already seducing men outside and stealing money at home! If she steals money now, she'll steal gold and silver outside later! I need to teach her a lesson."

Oliver asked, "What money?"

Suddenly, he remembered something and asked, "The money you hid under the clothes in the back of the closet?"

Lisa's face changed as she looked at Oliver in disbelief. "You took it?"

Oliver nodded nonchalantly. "Yeah, I took it!"

Lisa's face turned green with anger. "Do you know that money was saved for your high school tuition? You took all of it! What do you need so much money for?"

Oliver shrugged indifferently. "I wanted a pair of running shoes. I was short on money, so I found your stash and took it!"

He lifted his foot to show Lisa his new shoes.

"You... you... you..." Lisa was so angry she couldn't speak, but she still couldn't bring herself to say anything harsh. She just sighed helplessly, "If you wanted shoes, you could have asked me. Why did you take it secretly?"

Oliver pouted. "Would you have bought them for me if I asked? My classmates wear shoes and clothes worth thousands of dollars, and I'm stuck with cheap ones. They laugh at me behind my back! With these shoes, let's see if they dare laugh at me now."

Lisa's chest hurt with anger.

Hannah looked at her mockingly, finding it all so ridiculous.

When her mother suspected her of being a thief, she didn't even ask for clarification before making her kneel and beating her.

But now, her brother had admitted to taking the money, and her mother couldn't even say a harsh word.

She always knew her mother didn't like her.

But seeing it firsthand again and again still hurt.

Oliver turned and helped Hannah up from the floor.

Because she had been kneeling for so long, her legs were numb, and she almost fell. Luckily, Oliver caught her in time.

He turned to Lisa and warned fiercely, "I'm telling you, if you ever hit Hannah again, I'll fight you. I won't recognize you as my mom anymore."

Lisa was furious. "You brat, who do you think you're closer to?"

Oliver put his arm around Hannah's shoulder without hesitation. "Of course, Hannah! So, don't bully her anymore, or I'll take her away from here."

"You..." Lisa was so angry that she almost fainted.

At that moment, Quentin, who had been hiding in his room, came out to mediate. "Alright, alright, since the truth is out, let's stop arguing!

Let's pretend this never happened, okay? Hannah, don't be mad. Your mom doesn't dislike you; she's just disappointed in you.

Oliver, don't talk to your mom like that. She's trying to educate your sister for her own good."

Hannah looked at her father, who had finally come out of his room, and let out a self-deprecating laugh.

From the moment her mother accused her of stealing and started beating her, her father had been hiding in his room, afraid of getting involved.

Now that her brother had revealed the truth, he came out to play the good guy.

Although her mother was the one who beat and scolded her, her father seemed nice on the surface.

But only she knew that her father was irresponsible. His so-called kindness was just not hitting or scolding her, and occasionally smiling at her.

Most of the time, he was like an invisible person.

Hannah gave him a cold look, pushed him away, and returned to the smallest, dampest room. She closed the door, curled up in a corner, hugged her knees, and cried in frustration.
