Chapter 743 Mommy, Charles is Dating Early
Ryan's eyes locked onto Hunter, who was hiding behind Patricia. Even though Martin had given him a quick rundown, Ryan couldn't shake his unease about this guy who looked just like Hunter.
"Patricia, what's the deal with him?" Ryan asked.
Patricia said quickly, "We're taking him home. He's got no one else, so it's on me to look after him."
Ryan still had his doubts, "What if he's Hunter in disguise? Maybe he's up to something, trying to hurt you all?"
Patricia chuckled, "No way! Martin saw that guy die. You doubting his skills?" She didn't dare mention Hunter's name, worried it might set off the real Hunter.
Ever since they sedated Hunter at the crematorium, he seemed to have forgotten the whole thing and never brought it up again.
Mentioning Hunter might trigger his memory and send him spiraling.
Ryan quickly shook his head, "No, no, I wouldn't question his skills!"
Patricia smiled, "He's dead and cremated."
She grabbed Hunter's arm and said firmly, "Remember, he's innocent. Don't judge him."
Ryan, still uneasy, kept his mouth shut and looked down.
Patricia then introduced Kaleb to Daisy, "Daisy, this is my biological father, Kaleb."
Daisy nodded politely, "Kaleb!"
Kaleb smiled, "Patricia's told me a lot about you. You've taken great care of her and the kids. Thank you! It's great to finally meet you."
Daisy blushed, "We're best friends. It's what we do."
She checked her phone, "It's almost dawn. Let's eat breakfast, then Ryan can drive you home."
Patricia shook her head, "No, Hunter can't be around crowds. We'll eat at home."
Daisy looked at Hunter, who was clinging to Patricia's sleeve, and sighed, "You're right. He shouldn't be in crowded places. Let's head straight home."
Ryan and Daisy grabbed the luggage.
On the drive back, Ryan was at the wheel, Daisy in the front, and Kaleb, Patricia, and Hunter in the back.
Daisy couldn't stop talking to Patricia, catching up on everything. Patricia shared her recent experiences too.
The airport was about an hour from Sunshine Manor. By the time they got there, the sun was up, and Charles, Fannie, and Randy were already awake.
Breakfast was ready downstairs.
Maria and Declan, who usually slept in, seemed to sense their mom was back and woke up early, eager to go downstairs.
Patricia gestured for Daisy and Ryan to be quiet as they reached the door. She handed Hunter to Daisy and quietly went upstairs.
Charles was already up, changing into his school uniform.
As he changed, Charles couldn't help but nag Fannie and Randy, "Hurry up, you two! I told you to go to bed early, but you didn't listen. Now you're dragging. When mom and dad get back, I'm totally telling on you."
Randy and Fannie were each in their own bathrooms. Fannie was brushing her teeth, her words muffled, "If you tell Mom, I'll tell her you're dating a girl at school. She'll spank you for sure."
Charles felt wronged, "I didn't do anything. Go ahead and tell her. I've got nothing to hide."
Fannie rinsed her mouth and, while washing her face, said, "I saw you holding hands with my own eyes. How can you say you didn't do it?"
Charles, now dressed, stepped out of his room just as Patricia saw him roll his eyes, clearly exasperated and not wanting to argue.
Randy, meanwhile, stayed quiet, finishing up in the bathroom and heading to his room to change into his school uniform.
Charles, adjusting his bow tie, didn't notice Patricia at first. He bumped into her stomach, thinking it was one of the housemaids. He glanced up briefly, then surprised, his eyes widening in disbelief, "Mommy?"
Fannie, still in the bathroom, heard him and said, "Mommy? Even if you call for Grandma, it won't help! When Dad and Mom get back, I'm telling on you."
Charles, still in shock, called out again, "Mommy!"
Patricia, red eyes, looked at him. In the few months they hadn't seen each other, Charles had grown a lot. He was now up to her chin. At just seven years old, he was already 4.92 feet tall.
Patricia opened her arms, her voice choked with emotion, "Charles, I'm back!"
Strong as he was, Charles's eyes were red. He rushed into Patricia's arms, hugging her tightly around the waist, his voice trembling with excitement. He said, "Mommy, you're finally back! I missed you so much."
Patricia was taken aback by his intense emotions.
Charles had always been mature and good at hiding his feelings. It was rare to see such an excited expression on his face. Today, she could truly feel her place in his heart.
Hugging him, Patricia smiled, "I missed you all so much too!"
Just then, Randy finished changing and came out of his room. Seeing Patricia hugging Charles in the hallway, he was momentarily stunned before running over excitedly to join the embrace. He said, "Mommy, you're finally back."
Patricia held both Charles and Randy, who were now the same height, feeling overjoyed.
Hearing the commotion, Fannie finally sensed something was unusual. She ran out of the bathroom and, seeing her mom hugging Charles and Randy, her eyes immediately reddened. Fannie cried, "Mommy."
Patricia, her eyes misty, choked out, "Fannie."
Fannie quickly ran over, pulling Charles and Randy out of Patricia's embrace and then throwing herself into her mother's arms.
Fannie cried, "Mommy, you're finally back. I missed you so much."
Charles and Randy looked a bit helpless.
Patricia, feeling gratified, ruffled Fannie's hair. Before she could say anything, Fannie blurted out, "Mommy, I have to tell you, Charles is dating early."
Charles looked puzzled.
Patricia couldn't help but laugh. In such an emotional moment, these siblings still found time to bicker.
She was truly amused by them.
