Chapter 215 Patricia's Fate Unknown

Back in Country A, ever since Martin returned from Los Angeles, he refused to mention Patricia. Even when Randy and Charles discussed her, he acted as if he were deaf, focusing solely on the computer screen, diligently attending to his business, without participating in the conversation.

Days passed like this. Until, as Martin was getting ready for a meeting, he received a call from Carter. He answered, switched on the speakerphone, and continued organizing his documents while asking nonchalantly, "What's up?"

Carter was silent for a moment, as if making a significant decision, then spoke in a serious tone, "I didn't want to tell you this, but after thinking it over, I feel you should be informed. I'm worried you might blame me later on."

Martin's motion of sorting files halted. For some reason, even before Carter could speak, he felt it had something to do with Patricia.

The pain he had struggled to ignore for days surged back, assaulting him. He clenched his hands tightly, trying to distract himself from the sharp pain in his heart.

"If you don't feel like talking about it, then don't," he said.

Right now, he wanted to avoid any news about Patricia. After all, he just didn't want to hear anything about her. He was afraid, afraid he'd hear exactly what he didn't want to hear.

Carter, having gathered the gist of the situation from the driver, knew the impact this news would have on Martin. Nevertheless, he believed Martin should be informed. Whether or not Martin would travel to Country M to rescue Patricia was another matter.

"Patricia has been kidnapped!"

Less is more. In just a few words, the essence captured succinctly. Martin paused, his fists clenching and unclenching relentlessly. Even as his heart hung heavy in his throat, his demeanor remained defiant.

"It has nothing to do with me, her situation."

Even if she were really kidnapped, Hunter would save her. What was he? Just her ex-husband.
Carter, who had known his friend for decades, could tell that Martin said one thing but felt another. Knowing that Martin wouldn't ask, he volunteered information.

"Hunter has outsmarted them with a brilliant strategy, leaving Davis Sadie in total disarray. Davis Sadie has completely lost her grip, and Hunter now controls the situation. Davis Sadie, in her scheme against Hunter, kidnapped Patricia."

Martin's gaze briefly faltered, his thoughts momentarily stalled. Using Patricia to get to Hunter?
Even Davis Sadie knew she was Hunter's Achilles' heel.

Noticing Martin’s silence, Carter continued, "The latest news is that Hunter hasn't found Patricia yet. Martin, I feel you should know all this, regardless of what you decide to do."

"Anything else?" Martin remained unresponsive to the kidnapping.

"That's all."

"I have an important international meeting. I need to hang up!" Then, as if recalling something, he added, "And don’t bother me with her affairs, I’m not interested."

After the call ended, Martin promptly took the conference materials and left the office.

...

In Country M, on Mount Troy, Patricia was bound and suspended from a bridge, her attire thin and fluttering in the wind, the other end of the rope tied to the bridge's structure. The roaring wind, swung her back and forth, in the air.

Davis Sadie stood on the bridge, sneering. "A week has passed and Hunter hasn't shown. It seems you're not as important to him as the Miller Group's shares! I've overestimated your worth"

Patricia shivered from the cold; the wind too loud and the distance too great for her to make out her words.

William stood beside Davis Sadie, observing the absence of Hunter at both ends of the bridge, and couldn't help but ask, "Mommy, what if Hunter doesn't come? Won't our plan be for nothing?"

Davis's face, filled with pudgy flesh, turned dark and ugly. "If he doesn't come, I'll kill Patricia. Even if we can't take back what's ours, I'll make his life miserable, give him an everlasting regret."

It was clear that Hunter had real feelings for Patricia. However, shares in the Miller Group carried more weight by comparison. Still, Patricia's death would at least cause him some grief for a while. That was enough.

"Another half an hour. If he doesn't show, we kill the woman," he declared, as he glanced at the time on his phone. Davis said nothing, seemingly in agreement with the proposal.

Patricia's body was numb with cold; her blood might as well have stopped flowing, leaving her stiff and sensationless. Seconds and minutes ticked by. Patricia felt her head spin, darkness encroaching on her vision, barely able to hold on.

With a weak voice, she said, "Don't waste your energy. I may know Hunter, but we're hardly close. I'm not that important to him."

She knew her words were futile. But she couldn't let go, struggling to the very end.

"I'm already married. I have a husband and children. How could he possibly want someone like me, a married woman?" Finally, Davis reacted, shrugging dismissively and scoffing.

"So what if you're married? So what if you have kids? People these days don't care about that." Her voice was loud. Patricia heard it all too clearly.

"I..." She tried to say more, but Davis Sadie interrupted her impatiently.

"Enough, you don't need to say anything! Even if you're not important to him, you saved him. Just for that, you've earned yourself the right to die a hundred, no, a thousand times over. If he doesn't show, don't even think about leaving here alive."

Patricia had anticipated this outcome, her face ashen, her gaze despairingly vacant, her frail body no longer able to bear the torment, everything around her beginning to double and blur.

Faces flashed before her eyes like scenes from a movie. She could see Martin, Randy, Charles, Fannie, Jade and Frank. But especially Martin.

Thinking of him, her heart clenched with pain, it was in this moment that she realized her true feelings for Martin. She loved him, she always had. No matter how much she had hated him, deep down, she never stopped loving him.

Right now, she was filled with regret, she shouldn't have rejected him when they were together the last time. If this truly was to be her end, she wished she could have that beautiful memory to accompany her.

And if she survived this ordeal, she would tell him in person, that she wanted to reconcile, and inform him, that Fannie was his biological daughter. Hope seemed faint at this point in time.

Tears involuntarily welled up and slid down her cheeks, as she thought of what she would be leaving behind.

Just then, William suddenly announced, "Mummy, it's been over ten minutes, and that bastard Hunter still hasn't shown up. It seems he's made his choice."

Davis trembled with rage, her flesh quivering ceaselessly. "True to the Miller family bloodline, cold-hearted, merciless, selfish, always placing interests above emotions."

William pointed at Patricia and asked, "And her?"

Without a glance at Patricia, Davis took out a fruit knife and fiercely cut the rope suspending her from the bridge.

"If she's of no use, why keep her around?"

Like a plummeting arrow, Patricia's body descended rapidly. With a 'thud', she fell into the swiftly flowing river, creating countless ripples.
