Chapter 1274 Strange Relationship

Jett was driving while Stella and Randy sat in the back seat.

At a red light, Jett glanced at Randy in the rearview mirror and asked, "Hey, Randy, got a sec to chat?"

Randy caught his eye in the mirror.

He had a feeling Jett was going to bring something up, so before Jett could say anything, Randy said, "You wanna talk about Emeric's piano skills, right?"

Jett chuckled.

Ten years of working together had built a bond between them that was hard to beat.

Randy had definitely read his mind.

"You're semi-retired now, spending half the year on vacation. I'm just bored! So, I thought about mentoring someone new. Emeric seems promising! Plus, he's Stella's boyfriend, so we kinda know him. He looks good too! If his skills are solid and he's a decent guy, I think he'd be a great fit. Saves me the hassle of searching around."

Randy's fingers tapped idly on his thighs. "I'm not too familiar with him, so I can't really say. Piano skills are subjective. You should check him out yourself. If you think he's good, go ahead and sign him. I won't get in the way."

He didn't let Stella and Emeric's relationship cloud his judgment.

Nor did he stir up any trouble.

Even though he wasn't too impressed with Emeric's skills, he wasn't sure about Emeric's character either.

Besides, plenty of musicians weren't particularly skilled, but with the right support and promotion, they could still make it big in the music industry.

If Jett really believed in Emeric, Randy wouldn't oppose signing him.

Jett knew Randy wouldn't give him much.

Randy was always straightforward and never gossiped about anyone, good or bad.

He asked Randy mostly for reassurance, hoping to avoid a bad decision.

But he hadn't expected to get no useful info.

Seeing he wouldn't get anything from Randy, Jett turned to Stella.

"Stella, Emeric's your boyfriend. You should know him well! How do you think his piano skills are? Since you're with him, his character must be pretty good, right?" Just as he finished asking, the light turned green.

Noticing Jett was absorbed in the conversation, Randy kindly reminded him, "Green light!"

Simultaneously, honking started from behind.

Jett quickly started the car but was still eager to hear Stella's answer. "Stella?"

Stella thought seriously for a moment and answered honestly, "I think his piano skills are pretty good! The first time I met him, I was drawn to his playing. As for his character, I haven't noticed any issues so far."

Jett laughed heartily. "If his piano playing caught your attention, his skills can't be bad."

Stella added, "But his skills are nowhere near Randy's! He doesn't even meet the standards to be Randy's student."

She didn't mention having asked Randy to take Emeric as a student.

Since Randy hadn't said anything, he must have his reasons, and she couldn't say anything either.

As for character.

Honestly, she hadn't seriously considered Emeric's character. She just knew people at school spoke well of him.

When her roommates found out she was interested in Emeric, they cheered her on.

They said Emeric was talented, handsome, and had a good character—basically the perfect boyfriend.

So she naturally believed Emeric had a good character.

Jett couldn't help but laugh. "Of all people, you compare him to Randy! Randy's musical achievements and talent are off the charts. In all my years, I've never seen anyone like him.

In today's world, who even dares to compare themselves to Randy? Comparing Emeric to Randy is just not fair to Randy.

Honestly, being compared to Randy is a compliment. Any musician you can think of would either steer clear of Randy or praise him!"

Randy initially held back but eventually interrupted, "Alright, enough! You're laying it on too thick."

Jett raised an eyebrow, unfazed, "I'm not exaggerating. Just stating the facts!"

Then, he turned to Stella and kept on praising Randy. "You don't know, Randy suddenly decided to accept an invitation from Country Y's organizers to perform! When the news broke, the internet went nuts!

Tickets sold out as soon as they went on sale! It was like tickets for top-tier celebrity meet-and-greets. Thank goodness Randy isn't a celebrity. If he were, those male stars wouldn't stand a chance!"

Randy's brow twitched.

Jett's bragging was getting more and more over the top.

He was really going on and on.

And Stella, of course, believed him.

Stella admired, "Randy is really that amazing?"

She always knew Randy was impressive, but didn't realize he was this extraordinary.

Jett proudly said, "Of course! So,"

He abruptly shifted back to the original topic. "So, not everyone qualifies to be his student! He's eager to find someone with his musical talent and dedication!

Such people only come around once in a century—like Randy. The next one will probably show up in another hundred years! So, you see?

He's destined not to have a student in his lifetime!

So, we shouldn't use his standards to judge someone's skills. That's not fair!"

Stella understood.

Jett meant Randy was so exceptional that he had no rivals.

And Randy was eager to find a student as talented and dedicated as he was. Because his standards were so high, he didn't think Emeric was good enough, not because Emeric's skills were actually poor.

Just that Emeric hadn't met Randy's standards.

Jett rubbed his hands together, "But since you're staying for a few days, I'll personally test his skills and see if he's really not good enough or if Randy's standards are just too high."

Stella agreed readily. "Sure! Emeric will be happy to know!"

Jett smiled, then casually or perhaps intentionally remarked, "It's the first time I've seen a couple so distant! You two are really something!"

Stella was taken aback.

Randy was surprised.

The atmosphere in the car turned awkward again because of his comment.

He found it odd that Stella didn't ride with her boyfriend but chose to stay with Randy instead.

It was the first time he'd seen a girl leave her boyfriend to hang out with her cousin.

But despite his curiosity, he wisely didn't ask further.

He knew some things were better left unsaid.
