Chapter 885 Hannah's Breakdown

Hannah had no clue how long she’d been out cold; she woke up to the sound of someone sobbing on and off.

Stella was bawling, "How could this happen? Charles is such a good guy. Hannah, wake up, Hannah."

With Stella's voice echoing in her ears, Hannah fought to open her eyes and let out a groan.

Stella stopped crying the second she heard Hannah and grabbed her hand tight, "Hannah, thank God you're awake. I was so freaked out."

Hannah's brain felt like it was running on old, rusty gears, slowly starting to turn.

The moments before she blacked out played in her head like a broken movie reel.

She didn't want to face the truth. Blinking, she muttered, "Stella, you know what? I just had the worst nightmare."

Stella froze, tears still in her eyes, forgetting to cry.

Stella asked, "What nightmare?"

Hannah forced a smile that looked more like a grimace, "I dreamed Charles had a car accident. They brought him back, but the doc said he'd never wake up. Isn't that messed up? How could he crash? How could he not wake up? Why would I dream that? Is it 'cause he's been gone so long and I miss him like crazy?"

As she spoke, Hannah's eyes drifted to the white ceiling.

That ceiling was so white! Just like her crappy rented apartment.

Hearing her words and seeing her face, Stella lost it and started crying again, "Hannah, this isn't a dream; it's real. Charles is still in the ICU! The doc said even if he makes it through the critical period, he's got like a ten percent chance of waking up."

'Ten percent! That's basically nothing. How could someone so fine end up like this?' Stella thought.

She knew she shouldn't drop this bomb on Hannah, but she also knew Hannah needed to know what was up with Charles.

Hannah's sluggish brain started to catch up. She turned her head mechanically, her eyes red and teary.

"What did you say?" She got every word, but together they made no sense.

Stella held her hand tight, burying her face in the blanket, crying as she spoke, "I know it hurts, but it's the truth! You're not dreaming; it's real! Charles really had a car accident and is still in the ICU. The doc said even if he makes it through the critical period, waking up is a long shot."

She repeated the facts again.

Once it hit her that this was real and not a dream, Hannah lost it, "No, it can't be! How could he end up like this? No way."

Hannah kept denying it, throwing off the blanket and trying to get out of bed.

She needed to see Charles. She had to see for herself.

Stella had to be lying. How could someone as awesome as Charles end up like this?

They hadn't even made things official yet.

Charles had just told her he liked her!

She hadn't even told him she liked him back and wanted to be his girlfriend!

They had so much left to say and do.

How could he end up like this!

Hannah didn't want to believe it, but as soon as she got out of bed and her feet hit the floor, she felt dizzy and fell back onto the bed.

Stella rushed to help her, "Hannah, you've been out for a whole day and night. You need to eat something first, or you won't have the strength to see Charles."

As she spoke, she reached for the insulated lunch box on the bedside table.

But Hannah wasn't feeling hungry at all. She shoved the lunch box away, barely holding herself up on the bed, and stumbled towards the door, "I need to see him. I gotta see him right now."

By now, she was a mess, sobbing uncontrollably, "I need to ask him why he's doing this to me! He knows I like him so much, yet he won't wake up."

That short outburst drained all her energy.

Hannah leaned weakly against the wall, her face slick with sweat, feeling dizzy and gasping for air.

Stella quickly put the lunch box back on the table and rushed to support her, "Hannah, the doc said you're super weak. You can't keep doing this to yourself! You need to eat something to get your strength back! If you pass out at the ICU door again like yesterday, everyone will freak out! Please, listen to me, eat something first, and once you're a bit stronger, I'll go with you to see Charles."

Stella was really worried about Charles. She hadn't slept for a whole day and night, juggling between the ICU and Hannah's room.

Besides Kaleb, her parents, Patricia and Martin, had come, and Randy was with them.

But Hannah was different. Her parents weren't in this city, and she had broken up with Austin.

The only person who could stay with Hannah was her.

Even though she was super worried about Charles, she could only check on him occasionally and then text Randy for updates.

She remembered when Patricia and Martin arrived, Patricia cried her heart out in Martin's arms, and it broke her heart.

Even Patricia didn't get how things could turn out this way.

How could he suddenly have a car accident!

Hannah was stubborn and still wanted to see Charles.

But after taking just one step, she felt super dizzy. Her legs were weak and couldn't hold her up. Helplessly, she had to follow Stella's advice and get back to bed to regain some strength.

She knew that in her current state, even if she managed to walk out of the room by holding onto the wall, she wouldn't make it to the ICU. It would only make things worse.

Such a vicious cycle, she didn't know when she would be able to see Charles.

Stella helped her sit back on the bed, then opened the insulated lunch box on the table. As soon as it was opened, a rich aroma filled the room.

"This is chicken soup I had my housekeeper make for you. Drink as much as you can! Later, they'll bring us some food." As she spoke, she poured out the soup.

Hannah didn't argue. When Stella brought the soup to her mouth, she obediently drank it.

Stella felt really sad and wanted to cry, but she was afraid of upsetting Hannah, so she held back.

After drinking the soup, Hannah tried to get out of bed and walk a few steps, but finding she was still weak, she had to lie back down and rest.

Every minute of waiting was torture for her.

She felt like she could hear the ticking of the clock in her ears.

The sound of the clock's hands moving was magnified in her ears.

Stella didn't dare to speak, afraid that if she opened her mouth, she would start crying. She could only stay quietly by her side.

During the day and night she was out, Hannah hadn't eaten anything, her stomach was empty. After drinking the soup, she finally regained some strength after a while.

This time, Stella didn't stop her but supported her arm, ready to take her to the ICU to see Charles.

As soon as the door opened, they saw Austin standing there, his eyes red, looking at her with a face full of sadness and concern.
