Chapter 948 Hannah Is Missing
The next day.
Stella was so freaked out about Hannah that she didn't catch a wink all night and only crashed at dawn.
Next thing she knew, her dorm mates were shaking her awake. First thing she did was look for Hannah, but her bed was already empty.
Stella jumped out of bed and dashed to the bathroom, but still no sign of Hannah. She grabbed her roommate's shoulder, almost shaking her, "Where's Hannah? Where'd she go?"
Her roommate winced, "Ouch! She was gone when we got back! You two are always glued together, so if you don't know, how would I?"
A bad feeling crept over her.
She whipped out her phone to call Hannah but saw a message instead: [Stella, chill. I'm fine! Just super confused right now. It's too loud here, so I need some quiet to figure out my thing with Charles. Don't come looking for me. I won't do anything stupid because of Charles. I'll be back once I sort things out! If Charles asks, just tell him the truth! No need to cover for me.]
Reading the message, Stella felt like she'd been dunked in ice water.
She didn't give up and dialed Hannah's number.
But all she got was that annoying mechanical voice, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
Stella's tears started falling like crazy.
She hugged her roommate and bawled, "Hannah's gone. She doesn't want me anymore. She's ignoring me."
Her roommate just stood there, stunned, not knowing how to comfort her.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Since he and Hannah split last night, Charles had been a mess, couldn't focus on anything, and didn't even notice the psychologist's assistant coming out of the office.
"Dr. Perez will see you now."
Charles stared blankly ahead, lost in thoughts of Hannah.
Seeing no reaction, Carter nudged him, "Charles, what's up with you? What are you thinking about? You've been so out of it."
Violet clung to his arm, worried, "Yeah, Charles, you okay?"
Charles snapped back to reality and quietly pulled his arm away.
Carter pulled Violet back a bit, annoyed, "Violet, you're twenty now, not a kid. You can't be all over Charles like this, or people will talk."
Violet didn't care and pouted, grabbing Charles' arm again. "Let them talk! Charles is my fiancé. I'm just holding his arm. It's not like I'm doing anything wrong. People just love to gossip. I don't care."
Carter was about to lose it when Violet continued, "During those two years of wandering, what kind of crap haven't I heard? Sometimes, I even got beat up for a bite of food. Once, I was starving and saw someone hadn't finished their meal at an outdoor breakfast place, so I ran over to eat it, and the lady boss yelled at me the whole time. She yelled while I ate! If I cared so much about others, I would've starved to death long ago."
Her words hit Carter hard, making him choke up, his eyes red with sorrow.
Lassie hugged her, heartbroken. "It's my fault. I didn't take good care of you! I'm sorry."
Since they found Violet, she had forced herself not to think about how Violet survived those seven years.
She was scared it would break her heart.
Hearing Violet talk so casually about it, Lassie felt a sharp pain in her chest.
Lassie thought, 'How much did Violet go through during those two years on the streets? What if that coffee shop owner hadn't taken her in? Would she even be alive now?'
Lassie cried her eyes out, while Violet just shrugged. "It's all in the past! Surviving is what matters, right?"
Lassie nodded, wiped her tears, and let go of Violet. "You're right. Surviving is the most important! I'll make it up to you from now on."
Violet clung to Charles' arm and grinned. "If you wanna make it up to me, then set a date for me and Charles to get hitched. My biggest dream since I was a kid was to marry Charles. Now I'm finally grown up. I never wanna be apart from him again."
Lassie looked troubled.
If it weren't for Hannah, this would have been a no-brainer.
But now Charles had a girlfriend, so it was complicated.
But Lassie was scared that saying this would upset Violet.
Charles stepped in at the right moment, "Let's talk about this later! Let's wait until you're better."
Hearing about Violet's rough times had really hit him hard.
He hadn't expected that she even fought with homeless people for food and got yelled at for it.
Thinking about this, he felt more sympathetic towards her.
Violet listened to Charles and nodded with a smile, leaning her head on his arm. "I'll listen to you!"
Charles sighed inwardly and said helplessly, "Let's go in first! Don't keep Angela waiting."
He had pulled some strings to get Angela to agree to see Violet.
Angela Perez was the top psychologist in the country, as mentioned by the doctor yesterday.
He had found out that Angela was a friend of one of his business partners, so he personally asked that partner to get Angela to agree to treat Violet.
This was the appointment they had made yesterday.
Violet nodded.
As they were about to go in, Charles' phone rang in his pocket.
He apologized, stepped back, took out his phone, and his heart tightened when he saw the caller ID. He answered and put it to his ear, "What's up? Is something wrong with Hannah?"
At this time, if Stella was calling, it could only mean something had happened to Hannah.
Sure enough, as soon as he asked, he heard Stella crying hysterically.
Stella shouted, "It's all your fault! Hannah is missing because you broke her heart. You're a bad person. I hate you."
Charles' breath caught, and he asked nervously, "Explain yourself. What do you mean she's missing?"
To avoid Violet hearing, he deliberately lowered his voice.
Stella recounted everything that happened last night and this morning.
The more she thought about it, the more worried she became.
Stella said anxiously, "Her phone is off now. I can't reach her at all! What should we do? Do you think something happened to her?"
"Don't worry. I'll find her!" After saying that, he hung up and called Wyatt while walking out without looking back. He said to Carter, "Carter, something urgent came up, and I have to go. You and Violet go in. Call me if you need anything."
Violet said, "Charles, wait for me. I'll go with you." Violet wanted to follow, but Carter held her back. "Charles has important business to attend to, so it's not convenient for you to go! Besides, we finally got an appointment with Angela. If we miss this chance, it will be hard to get another. Let's go in first."
"But..." Violet looked in the direction Charles had left, biting her lower lip in frustration.
"No buts! Your health is the most important." Ignoring her protests, Carter forcibly dragged her into Angela's office.
