Chapter 1149 Hannah Woke Up
Lassie pulled with all her strength from above.
Hannah pushed with all her might from below.
With their combined efforts, Hannah finally managed to climb halfway up the cliff.
There was a glimmer of hope at last.
Lassie smiled with relief but didn't dare to relax, pulling even harder to get Hannah up.
Even though her arms were numb.
Even though her chest was bruised from the cliff edge, she didn't care. All she could think about was saving her daughter.
Just as Hannah was almost up, the ground beneath Lassie suddenly gave way again.
Hannah lost her balance and fell.
Lassie's arms were already at their limit. Hannah's sudden fall was too quick for her to react, and Hannah slipped from her grasp, plummeting into the abyss below.
"Hannah!" Lassie screamed and, without a moment's hesitation, jumped after her.
Hannah fell face-up, knowing she was about to die. She stared at Lassie, wanting to see her mother's face one last time.
But then she saw her mother jump after her without hesitation. There was no doubt in her eyes.
Tears streamed down Hannah's face, blown away by the wind.
"Mom, no! Mom, no!" Hannah jolted awake from her coma, sitting up in her hospital bed, still shouting, "Mom, no!"
Hearing the commotion, Charles and Carter rushed in from the hallway. Seeing her awake and crying, they hurried to her side.
Charles, eyes red, grabbed her arms tightly. "Hannah, you're finally awake?"
Carter's eyes were also red. "Thank goodness you're awake! This method really worked. Your mom brought you back. It's wonderful."
"Mom?"
Hearing the familiar yet distant term, scenes from her dream flashed through Hannah's mind like a movie.
"Mom, mom." She remembered everything.
She remembered Lassie coming to the emergency room to find her, telling her she was her biological mother.
She remembered Lassie standing up for her when she was bullied by neighbors.
She remembered Lassie holding her hand tightly as she was about to fall off the cliff, refusing to let go even when she was exhausted.
She remembered Lassie jumping after her without hesitation.
She remembered it all.
Lassie was her biological mother.
Her mother had come to find her.
Hannah clutched Charles's hand anxiously. "Where's my mom?"
Charles pointed to the side. "You wouldn't wake up, so we had to let Lassie enter your dream to bring you back."
Hannah followed his finger and saw Lassie still unconscious. Thinking she might never wake up, tears streamed down her face as she threw herself onto Lassie. "Mom, I'm awake. I remember. My name is Violet. I'm your daughter! Mom, wake up! You promised to make it up to me, to protect me, to never let anyone hurt me again! You can't break your promise! Mom, wake up! Don't scare me! We just reunited; I don't want to lose you again! Mom. Mom."
As she cried out in desperation, Lassie slowly opened her eyes.
Her first reaction was to hug Hannah tightly, soothing her gently. "I'm here, sweetie. I'm here. Don't be scared. I promised you, and I'm not going anywhere."
Hearing her voice, Hannah looked up at her and burst into tears of relief. "You're okay. Thank God, you're okay."
Lassie patted her back tenderly. "I'm fine, Violet. Don't cry. I'm here to stay. I won't leave you again."
Hannah nodded vigorously, but her tears didn't stop.
Lassie didn't try to stop her, letting her cry and vent her emotions.
Her daughter had suffered so much over the years.
She needed to let it all out.
Back when she was with the Bennett family, even though her parents didn't like her, she was never abused.
Quentin and Lisa, those bastards, had been so cruel to a little girl.
She couldn't imagine what would have happened if Violet hadn't survived.
Even though she had found Violet now, the harm they had caused was unforgivable.
Charles and Carter, hearing Hannah's cries, couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
They forgot it was nighttime, and any noise would be amplified, especially heart-wrenching cries.
People in the neighboring wards, woken up by the noise, came over to knock on the door.
"Can you keep it down? Whatever the reason, please consider the other patients!"
"Yeah, I was taking care of a patient all day and finally fell asleep, only to be woken up suddenly. I was so scared, I thought something terrible had happened!"
"My grandma is old and can't sleep if she's woken up. Please, if you need to cry, wait until morning."
Hearing this, Hannah stopped crying abruptly, her eyelashes still wet with tears. She looked at them with wide eyes, unable to speak.
Charles, amused by her expression, couldn't help but take out a handkerchief to wipe her tears.
Carter apologized to the neighbors while ushering them out. "Sorry for the disturbance. We won't cry anymore."
Hannah couldn't help but giggle.
Her eyes were red and still filled with tears.
Her crying and laughing made her look both funny and adorable.
Lassie took the opportunity to sit up and hold her hand, looking at her lovingly. "You've lost weight. You used to have some chubbiness in your cheeks, but now it's all gone."
Charles laughed. "Don't worry, I'll help her gain it back!"
Hannah blushed and glared at him.
Carter, having closed the door, approached Hannah cautiously. "Hannah, do you remember everything? Do you know who I am?"
He wanted to know how much she remembered.
Did she remember she was Violet, his biological daughter?
Did she remember being kidnapped in middle school and disappearing?
Hannah looked at the anxious middle-aged man before her and smiled. "You're my biological father!"
Carter's face lit up with joy, his body trembling with excitement. "Yes, I'm your father. You're my daughter. You remember me. You finally remember."
He had to admit that Tina was truly skilled.
The problem that had troubled them for days was solved so effortlessly by her.
