Chapter 775: Protecting His Wife

Charles walked into the back lounge with a gift.

He saw Violet and Austin sleeping in their cradles. Violet was sucking her thumb, and Lassie was resting nearby.

Lassie woke up when she heard the door. She smiled, "Charles, you're here! Violet's asleep. Come sit for a bit."

Charles sat next to Lassie and pulled out a gift, "Lassie, I got this for her."

Lassie admired the golden necklace in his hand, "It's beautiful! Want to put it on her?"

Blushing, Charles nodded and gently placed the necklace around Violet's neck, having warmed it in his hand first.

Seeing how careful Charles was, Lassie teased, "Charles, how about marrying Violet when she grows up? I'd trust you with her."

Charles turned even redder, "No way! She cries too much!"

Lassie grinned, "Really? Would you let her marry someone else?"

Before Charles could reply, they heard voices outside.

"Is it here?"

"I checked with the staff, they said it's here!"

"So many rooms, which one?"

"Hold on, let me check!"

It was Lily and Harper.

Lassie frowned, asked Charles to watch the kids, and went to the door.

Lily and Harper, peeking around, straightened up when they saw her, looking annoyed, "So, you were hiding here! We searched everywhere."

Lassie sneered, "What do you want?"

Harper glanced into the room but didn't see Charles.

Feeling bolder, Harper said, "You know I like Carter!"

Lassie raised an eyebrow, "So?"

Harper continued, "So, you should divorce him, take the kids, and let me marry him."

Lassie laughed, "Divorce Carter and give him to you? That's the funniest thing I've heard."

Harper's face twisted in anger, "You've been living my life in the Bennett family! If it weren't for the mix-up at birth, I should be with Carter! You took him from me, so give him back."

Lassie stopped laughing and said coldly, "I've told you before, I will never divorce him! You can have anything else, but not Carter."

Harper's face darkened, "How shameless can you be? He was mine at first. What right do you have to keep him?"

Lassie sneered, "He's not an object. I love him, and he loves me! You're just trying to be a homewrecker."

Suddenly, there was a loud slap. Lassie's head snapped to the side, a clear handprint on her face.

Lily, her face twisted with rage, snapped, "She's your sister. You can't talk about her like that. As her older sister, you should always give a way to her, not compete for everything."

Lassie stood there, stunned. She touched her slapped cheek, looking at Lily with growing despair as tears rolled down her face.

Lily, unfazed, kept scolding her, "For over twenty years, you owe Harper so much. It's just a man! Why can't you let him go for her? I'm begging you, please divorce Carter."

Lassie felt utterly disillusioned with Lily, who had raised her for twenty years.

Lassie cried, "I don't owe her anything! It wasn't my fault the babies were switched. She's a victim, but so am I! Why should I pay for your mistakes? If you hadn't failed to recognize your own child, this wouldn't have happened. I'll repay the Bennett family's kindness, but I will never give up my husband."

With a firm tone, Lassie added, "I've said all I need to say! If there's nothing else, please leave immediately!"

She turned to go back inside.

Harper and Lily exchanged a glance.

Just as Lassie was about to close the door, Harper grabbed her hair and yanked it back forcefully.

Lassie gasped in pain, stumbling backward.

Harper slipped into the room and rushed towards the cradle.

Their plan was to use Violet to force Lassie into a divorce. One would hold Lassie outside, while the other would take the child.

But as soon as Harper rushed in, she saw Charles standing by the cradle, looking at her blankly.

"What do you think you're doing?" Harper didn't take him seriously. To her, he was just a kid. As a twenty-year-old adult, she wasn't afraid of a child.

"This is a Bennett family matter, it has nothing to do with you. Get out of my way!" Harper reached out to grab the child in the cradle.

Seeing both Violet and Austin, she hesitated, then quickly reached for Violet, who was dressed in pink.

But before she could touch Violet, Charles grabbed her wrist.

Charles said, "Try touching her and see what happens."

The pain in her wrist made Harper frown.

Harper said, "Let go of me! Or I'll be rude to you!"

Just then, Lassie's anxious voice came from outside, "Charles, protect Violet. Don't let her take Violet away."

Charles's eyes narrowed sharply.

Even without Lassie's words, he wouldn't let Harper lay a finger on Violet. "Take your hand away, or don't blame me for being disrespectful."

Harper still didn't take him seriously.

"Get out of my way..." Before she could finish, there was a sudden sound, and a sharp pain shot through her wrist.

Charles lifted his foot and kicked her in the stomach.

He used all his strength, showing no mercy.

Harper was sent flying by the force of his kick.
