Chapter 763 Farewell

Patricia took Hunter back to Kaleb's place in Country D.

After Kaleb and Patricia reunited, Kaleb registered Patricia with the community and added her fingerprints to the door lock.

Even though Kaleb had left Country D, the house was still spotless.

Patricia led Hunter to the guest room on the second floor. Seeing him so quiet, she had him sit on the sofa and asked, "Hunter, what's wrong? Are you scared?"

Hunter slowly looked at her but didn't say a word.

Patricia, worried, placed her hand on his chest to check his heartbeat. It was normal.

Everything seemed fine, so why was Hunter so out of it since they left the Hill family?

Before, he would've clung to her sleeve, hiding behind her and calling her name.

Patricia's eyes welled up with tears, "Hunter, what's wrong? Are you okay?"

Hunter still didn't speak, his eyes lifeless.

A wave of panic rose in Patricia's heart.

Just as she was thinking about taking Hunter to the hospital, Martin walked in with a medical kit.

Martin said, "Don't worry for now. Let's treat his wounds first. He's been like this since we got him. He must be really scared."

To him, as long as Hunter wasn't completely out of control, it wasn't too bad.

Even though he was in a daze, he was still somewhat normal.

Reminded by Martin, Patricia opened the medical kit and started treating Hunter's wounds.

Joe had ordered his men to beat Hunter badly.

Hunter's body was covered in bruises and cuts.

Patricia felt a wave of sadness.

Her hands shook as she treated his wounds, tears streaming down her face.

She had thought Joshua took Hunter back to Country M to raise him properly and acknowledge him as his son.

But instead, Hunter had lived a life even worse than Patricia's childhood.

Now he seemed broken.

What had Hunter gone through to end up like this?

Even in his madness, he still bore the consequences of Gabriel's actions.

In the past, Hunter would have been anxious about Patricia's tears, wiping them away and saying, "Patricia, don't cry. I will protect you."

But now, he was indifferent, like his soul had been taken, leaving just an empty shell.

Patricia had no idea what was wrong with Hunter.

After treating his wounds, she told Martin, "We need to go back to Sunset Bay! I have to take him to the hospital!"

Initially, to find Martin in Country Y, she had to temporarily send Hunter to a mental hospital, where professional doctors and nurses could care for him.

But now, Patricia's matters here were resolved.

She couldn't send Hunter back to a mental hospital.

"Alright! I'll check the tickets," Martin said, pulling out his phone, "There's a flight at one in the afternoon and another at five. If we take the one o'clock flight, we'll get to Sunset Bay at two in the morning. The five o'clock flight will get us there at six in the morning. Which one should we take?"

"Book the one o'clock flight! We need to leave immediately! Joe's been temporarily appeased, but who knows if he'll change his mind? Sunset Bay is the safest place for us," Patricia replied without hesitation.

"Got it!" Martin followed her instructions and booked three tickets for the one o'clock flight.

After patching up Hunter, Patricia grabbed a set of Kaleb's clothes from the wardrobe and asked Martin to help him change.

Even though Kaleb and Hunter had different builds, the winter clothes were loose enough to fit.

A little later, Maximilian and Carol came back.

Maximilian took one look at Hunter's bruised and battered body and asked, "Is he okay?"

Patricia shook her head, "They're just superficial wounds. He'll be fine in a few days. But we need to get back to Sunset Bay as soon as possible. There are too many uncertainties here in Country D."

Carol looked down, guilt written all over her face, "Patricia, I'm so sorry for what Joe did."

Patricia gave her a reassuring smile, "It's okay, I don't blame him. If I were in his shoes, I might've reacted even worse. This is all because of the bad things the fake Hunter did, and now his twin brother is paying the price."

Carol's eyes filled with tears. Once adored by everyone, she now faced a harsh reality, and it seemed she had matured overnight.

Thinking about everything that had happened recently, she started to sob, "Joe wasn't like this before. He was the most reasonable person! But too many things have happened recently, and it's been too much for him! And Susan, she stays in her room every day, holding Billy's photo and crying!"

She broke down completely, squatting on the ground, holding her head in her hands, and wailing, "I really don't know what to do now!"

Billy was dead. Susan was drowning in grief every day.

The once-righteous Joe seemed to have completely changed.

Overnight, Carol's family had fallen apart.

Carol had gone from a carefree girl to the pillar of her family.

She was exhausted, really exhausted.

Sometimes she even thought, if only she had died instead.

With Billy around, maybe Joe and Susan wouldn't be so heartbroken. Her family wouldn't have turned out like this.

Seeing her cry, Maximilian felt a deep pain in his heart. He squatted down, wrapped his arms around her shoulders, and pulled her into his embrace, gently stroking her back.

Maximilian said, "You still have me. I will take good care of you! From now on, I will support the Hill family for you."

Hearing his words, Carol cried even harder.

Under different circumstances, she would have been happy to hear these words.

But now, she only felt that Maximilian was pitying her, feeling sorry for her. She didn't want his pity or sympathy.

Patricia was also moved by Carol's emotions and began to cry. She mused, 'Carol was only nineteen years old! She should be at the most carefree age. But now, her frail shoulders had to bear the burden of the entire family.'

Patricia could feel her helplessness and fear.

No one would want to take on such a heavy responsibility under these circumstances.

After crying for a while and venting her emotions, Carol wiped her tears, stood up from the ground, and forced a smile that looked worse than crying, "Patricia, I'll take you to the airport! With me around, nothing will go wrong."

Patricia asked worriedly, "What about Joe?"

Carol said, "I just put Joe to sleep! Ever since Billy left, Joe and Susan haven't had a full night's sleep! Maybe Joe vented his emotions earlier, and he's feeling much better now, so he fell asleep quickly."

Patricia said with concern, "Do you want to go back and rest first? We can go to the airport ourselves."

Carol shook her head, "No need! I won't be able to sleep until I see you safely on the plane!"

Seeing her determination, Patricia didn't argue. Maximilian drove, Carol sat in the front passenger seat, and Patricia, Martin, and Hunter sat in the back.
