Chapter 689 Rescuing Patricia

At the moment her red lips touched his, Maximilian was stunned. He stood there dumbfounded as if struck by lightning, forgetting how to react.

The fragrance that belonged solely to a young girl forcefully filled his nostrils.

His breathing became erratic.

His heart pounded wildly as if it could jump out of his throat at any moment.

Taking advantage of this moment, Carol parted his lips, her clove-like little tongue boldly wrapping around his, engaging in a hesitant kiss.

Tears slid into her mouth along her cheeks.

Salty, with a hint of bitterness.

Carol stopped abruptly, afraid to kiss for too long, fearing he might push her away, which she wouldn't be able to bear.

Maximilian touched his lips, looking at her in disbelief.

Her warmth still lingered on his lips.

The fragrance from her body seemed to linger in his nose.

"You... you..."

Maximilian wanted to say something but stuttered, unable to form a complete sentence.

Carol lowered her head, unable to look at him directly. "I like you, not in a sibling way, but in a romantic way. My biggest wish since childhood has been to marry you and become your wife. Now, with the feud between our families, I know we can never be together in this lifetime. I don't regret kissing you! If you can't accept it, then forget it!"

Before Maximilian could react, she fled.

Maximilian lightly brushed the spot where Carol had kissed him. Her lips were soft, like jelly, sweet and fragrant.

He had just...just...experienced a moment of surrender.

Images that shouldn't have appeared even flashed through his mind.

Maximilian couldn't help but slap himself, feeling ashamed of his shameful behavior.

Dazed by Carol's sudden kiss, Maximilian didn't even know how to return to the hotel. As soon as he entered, Ryan and Kaleb pulled him over.

"How did it go? Did Carol agree to help rescue Patricia?" Kaleb asked anxiously.

Maximilian was still lost in that kiss, unable to respond immediately.

Noticing something was off, Kaleb, thinking he might be feverish, reached out to feel his forehead. "No fever! What's wrong with you? Why is your face so red?"

Maximilian suddenly snapped out of it, fearing they might discover something, and shook his head desperately. "It's nothing. I must have rushed back, feeling hot..."

"Hot?" Ryan looked puzzled towards the balcony.

Hot? It was already autumn.

How could it be hot?

But this wasn't the time to think about such things. Seeing Maximilian's lack of response, Ryan urged. "Mr. Reed, how did it go? Did Carol agree to help rescue Patricia?"

Maximilian nodded. "Carol agreed! She asked us to wait for her message."

Upon hearing this, Ryan and Kaleb immediately showed joy. "That's great! With her help, things will surely be much easier."

Maximilian nodded. "Yes! I never expected Carol to be so understanding. In my mind, she has always been the little girl who never grew up."

Yet he had never noticed the feelings this little girl harbored for him.

While everyone was happy about the news, Sebastian noticed that Martin had been silent.

"Is something wrong? Has something happened?" Sebastian inquired.

Martin forced a smile and shook his head. "Nothing!"

Sebastian wasn't entirely convinced. "Really nothing?"

Martin patted his shoulder. "Really nothing! Now that Carol has agreed to help rescue Patricia, let's start planning how to proceed."

Everyone nodded and gathered to discuss how to rescue Patricia.

Two days later, Carol brought a cup of coffee to Joe's study.

Joe was on the phone. "Yes, she must be executed immediately... I don't want any mishaps... "

As usual, Carol remained silent, standing there quietly until Joe finished his call.

Joe noticed her standing behind him, feeling guilty. He covered his mouth with his hand and lowered his voice. "Alright, follow my instructions, and if you have any problems, come to me."

After hanging up, he placed his phone on the desk and approached Carol with a somewhat stiff expression. "You're here. What happened in the study that day wasn't intentional; don't blame us! Once Patricia is gone, this matter will be over."

Carol lowered her head, concealing her true emotions, and softly said, "I know you were upset about Billy's situation, so I don't blame you."

Hearing that she didn't blame them, Joe breathed a sigh of relief, smiling as he ruffled her hair. "As long as you're not mad at us! Does your face hurt? Let me see."

Carol shook her head and handed the coffee she had prepared to Joe. I also had my faults that day. This coffee is brewed by me personally. Once we've shared this coffee, let bygones be bygones between us!"

"You brewed it! Great... I'll drink it..." Joe seemed to be in a good mood today, with a smile on his face. He took the coffee she offered and drank it without hesitation.

Watching him finish every drop of the coffee, Carol's eyes unknowingly welled up with tears again. She lowered her head and whispered, "Dad, I'm sorry..."

Thinking she was still apologizing for that day, Joe chuckled. "Silly girl, we're family. There is no need to apologize for anything!"

Carol seemed not to have heard him and continued, "I really don't want to see you do something wrong; that's why I had to do this."

"What?" Joe furrowed his brows in confusion, about to ask for clarification when he suddenly felt dizzy.

He seemed to understand something. His eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Carol. "You... You're..."

Carol looked up at him, tears slowly streaming down her face.

"Have a good rest, and when you wake up, everything will be over!"

Joe raised his hand in anger, but when he tried to strike, he found that he had no strength left. His tall body collapsed straight down.

Carol immediately caught him, struggling to drag him to the sofa, lay him down, and cover him with a blanket.

"Dad, I'm sorry! For Kaleb, for you, for Billy, for our family, and for the Hill family, I must do it! Once Patricia escapes, I will bear the consequences."

After that, she picked up Joe's phone from the desk, unlocked it with his face, and found the personal secretary's number.

"Thomas..."

Joe's personal secretary was acquainted with her.
Thomas frequently visited their home, overseeing Carol and Billy as they grew up.
All matters concerning Joe were entrusted to the secretary.
Therefore, he surely knew where Patricia was being detained.
Prior to seeking out Joe, Carol also arranged for Susan to take a temporary respite using a similar approach.
Only after they have "rested" could Carol proceed without interference.
