Chapter 912 Is It Already Too Late?

Hannah was feeling super bummed out. When her phone buzzed, she just stared at it like a zombie for a sec, not even thinking about picking it up, and then strolled right into City Hall.

Hannah and Austin were both newbies here and had no clue where to go once they were inside.

Austin had done his homework before coming. After scoping the place out, he spotted a sign on the left wall that said "Marriage Registration Office" with an arrow pointing the way.

Austin gave her a nudge and pointed at the sign, "Over there."

Hannah glanced at it and was about to head over when Austin suddenly asked, "Aren't you gonna answer the phone? Might be something important."

Hannah let out a bitter laugh.

Important? Yeah, right.

Besides Quentin bugging her about the progress, what else could it be?

Stella had mentioned some family drama. They hadn't seen each other in ages. At first, they kept in touch by phone, but even that had fizzled out recently.

She really didn't feel like dealing with Quentin right now.

She felt like she was suffocating, almost to the point of breaking.

Not seeing him gave her a bit of breathing room.

"Let's just go in!" Hannah shook her head and headed towards the marriage registration office.

The phone in her pocket stopped ringing. But it only took a second before it started up again.

She ignored it, but the phone kept buzzing, like it wouldn't quit until she picked up.

Annoyed by the nonstop ringing, she pulled out her phone, ready to shut it off, but saw the caller ID was "Stella." After a moment's hesitation, she answered and put the phone to her ear.

Hannah asked, "Stella! What's up?"

Stella was panting and anxiously asked, "Where are you right now?"

Hannah calmly replied, "City Hall."

Stella was on the verge of tears!

Stella shouted, "Which City Hall are you at? Why can't I see you?"

Hannah knew what she was trying to do and said listlessly, "I'm at the City Hall in my hometown! I know why you're looking for me. Since I've already promised my dad, I'm not changing my mind! You don't need to come over."

With that, she hung up before Stella could say anything else and shoved her phone back in her pocket.

She knew that with Stella's personality, she would definitely come over to drag her away.

But what's the point of that?

Could Quentin change his mind?

Would he agree to her being with Charles?

If Charles woke up, she could still fight for it. She believed that Charles was so amazing that he could definitely win over Quentin and Lisa.

But he hadn't woken up! So what could she do? What could she do?

Thinking of this, her eyes started to well up again.

She lowered her head, trying not to cry, and forced back her tears as she walked into the marriage registration office.

Her phone rang again in her pocket, each ring more urgent than the last.

Hannah just turned off her phone.

She was scared she might lose her hard-won resolve.

On the other end of the line, when Stella heard the voicemail message, she was so anxious she was about to cry. She immediately drove towards Hannah's hometown.

Hannah lived in a small city in Country D. They were in the capital of Country D, and it would take a full twelve hours to drive there from the capital.

They were in such a hurry that they couldn't get plane tickets at the last minute.

Randy whipped out his phone and quickly booked three high-speed rail tickets online.

Randy was like, "Let's hit the railway station. There's a train to Hannah's hometown. Driving there would take forever!"

Stella nodded, "Did you snag the tickets?"

Randy replied, "Yep! If we hustle, we can still make it."

"Alright, I'm on it." Stella gave him a thumbs-up, took a sharp left at the next light, and gunned it towards the railway station.

Randy had scored tickets for the 11 o'clock train.

When they rolled up to the station, they still had a solid half-hour before boarding.

The train ride from the capital to Hannah's hometown was just over five hours.

This was Stella's first time on a train. Back in school, they always rented buses for trips. Normally, she'd be all excited, checking everything out.

But today? Nah, she was too stressed, constantly calling Hannah, hoping to stop her from tying the knot.

No luck though, Hannah's phone was still off.

She checked the time. It had been an hour since their last call. A lot could go down in an hour.

If City Hall wasn't packed, an hour was plenty to get the marriage registration done.

She thought about hitting up Austin, but she didn't like the guy and didn't have his number. She'd added him once but later deleted him in a fit of childishness.

If only she hadn't done that.

The train was pretty empty. The seat next to Stella was vacant. Randy got up and came over, grabbing her arm, "Chill out. If it's already done, calling won't change anything."

Stella sighed, "I know, but I'm just freaking out."

She glanced at Charles, who had been quiet the whole time, sitting in the aisle seat.

Stella was super worried! It felt like her own boyfriend was getting married.

Randy said, "Look, stressing won't help! We'll handle it when we get there."

He figured as long as Hannah and Austin hadn't hooked up, it was all good.

Even if they had, so what? Nowadays, who cares? If they truly loved each other, Hannah could always divorce Austin!

Now that Charles was awake, all the problems would get sorted out.

But Stella wasn't as hopeful. She knew Hannah too well. She was super traditional. Once she got married, getting a divorce would be tough. Even if she was miserable, she'd stick it out.

Stella had never felt time drag so much.

She practically watched the seconds tick by.

After what felt like the longest five hours ever, they finally arrived.

Randy had Stella stay with Charles while he went to grab a cab to pick them up at the station entrance, then they headed straight for City Hall.

On the way, Stella kept calling Hannah.

The whole ride, Stella kept urging the driver to step on it.

Even though she knew it was probably too late, she didn't give up, hoping to get there a bit sooner.

It took a full forty minutes to get from the high-speed rail station to City Hall.

Stella practically flew out of the car.

It was already afternoon.

She rushed inside, scanned the place, and spotted the "Marriage Registration Office" sign. She bolted straight in.

She frantically searched everywhere.

She looked in every nook and cranny but didn't see Austin or Hannah.

Her heart started to sink.

It seemed they were really too late.

Austin and Hannah had probably already registered their marriage.

Just as her hope was fading, a familiar figure popped into view.

Her eyes lit up, and she sprinted over as fast as she could.
