Chapter 564 The Twin Brother of the Hunter

Patricia found herself frozen in place, her feet seemingly cemented to the ground.

Observing her peculiar demeanor, both James and Isadora traced the line of her sight, their gazes converging on the same point.

Within the confines of the sterile hospital room, a young nurse was assisting a male patient with his attire, her words of guidance filled with a tender care.

"I've told you before, haven't I? If you need to use the facilities, simply press the call button and I'll escort you. You can't venture there alone. A mishap is one thing, but a fall could lead to serious injury," she gently admonished.

Her back was turned towards the door, her features obscured from view.

However, the man was positioned facing the entrance, his height towering over the petite nurse.

From their vantage point at the doorway, his face was clearly visible.

Patricia wasn't the only one taken aback.

Even James found himself momentarily startled, his hand involuntarily clenching at his side.

Through the partially opened door, Hunter's eyes met theirs. A foolish grin spread across his face as he waved at them, his smile as innocent as a child untouched by the harsh realities of the world.

Patricia had never anticipated encountering Hunter in such a place. Her initial instinct was to barge in, but James swiftly restrained her.

"What are you planning to do?" he questioned.

Patricia's gaze remained locked on Hunter, her response resolute. "I need answers," she declared.

Hunter was supposed to be bedridden, paralyzed by her poison. How was it possible for him to be here?

And Charlotte. What had driven her to insanity?

A whirlwind of questions swirled in Patricia's mind, demanding clarity.

She had to understand what was transpiring.

In a soft tone, James cautioned, "Now is not the time. Besides, medical professionals are bound by confidentiality. Even if you were to ask, she wouldn't divulge any information."

His words washed over Patricia like a cold shower, jolting her back to reality.

Of course! She was a doctor herself.

She was more familiar with the hospital's regulations than anyone else.

What could she possibly uncover by storming in at this moment?

James proposed an alternative. "Let's retreat and devise another strategy."

Patricia bit her lower lip, her frustration evident in her gaze directed at Hunter. After a brief internal struggle, she reluctantly agreed to James's suggestion.

In the solitude of her hotel room, Patricia grappled with the bewildering events of the day. Hunter's unexpected presence had thrown her into a whirlpool of confusion.

Had he lost his sanity? Had Charlotte, her ex-husband's sister, also succumbed to madness? The inexplicable actions of the pair left her questioning their collective sanity.

Meanwhile, James, conscious of the delicate situation, chose to tread lightly to avoid arousing Patricia's suspicions. He feigned ignorance, asking, "Who's Hunter? I know Charlotte was your ex-husband's sister, but who's Hunter?"

Patricia, unfazed by his question, responded with a calmness that belied her inner turmoil. "Hunter was my childhood neighbor, a big brother figure. I trusted him implicitly at first. I never anticipated his malevolent nature. He even attempted to murder my husband and children multiple times.

"I suspected him of my husband's murder, so I poisoned him with a calculated dose of cyanide. I intended to paralyze him, to confine him to his bed, unable to speak or move— a fate worse than death.

"However, as you witnessed, Charlotte, whom I believed to be dead, appeared alive and might even be responsible for my husband's death.

"And Hunter, who should have been immobilized, rose from his bed. He's lost his mind."

She felt as if she were spiraling into madness herself. Why was reality so starkly different from her expectations?

James's eyes sparkled with intrigue as he asked, his voice laden with implications, "Did you ever harbor feelings for him?"

Patricia's eyes widened in shock, her gaze fixed on James as if he had lost his mind. "Do you really perceive me in that light? I've been nothing but faithful. I've loved only my husband, the sole man in my life. Before I discovered Hunter's true nature, I regarded him as nothing more than a brother."

James felt a surge of satisfaction at her vehement denial, a subtle smile playing on his lips and eyes.

"Let Nathan handle it," he suggested.

Patricia looked at him, puzzled.

James elaborated, "The Moore Group has significant influence here in M country, and Nathan is the local head. It's more prudent to let him investigate than for us to do it ourselves.

Moreover, we need to understand the situation. If we start interrogating the medical staff too aggressively, we might alarm them.

Let Nathan manage it, and we'll wait here for updates."

Patricia found his reasoning sound and agreed. She retrieved her phone and dialed Nathan's number.

Before her arrival, Carter had instructed Nathan to assist Patricia and cater to her needs as much as possible.

True to his reputation, Nathan, after understanding the situation, agreed to help Patricia without hesitation. His efficiency was commendable; he had everything sorted out in less than half a day.

"So, what's the verdict? Was that Hunter?" Patricia asked, eager to confirm the details despite knowing it might be redundant.

Nathan handed Patricia the investigative documents.

As Patricia perused the files, Nathan explained, "According to the timeline, he was transferred here at the beginning of last year, meaning he's been here for over a year. His medical records indicate he's been insane for well over a decade.

No one knows how he went mad, who his family is, or which hospital he was previously in."

After scanning the documents multiple times without finding his name, Patricia inquired again, "Why isn't there a name?"

Nathan replied, "There isn't one! The person who admitted him concealed all his information. I've dug up everything, and this is all the doctors know."

Baffled, Patricia voiced her concern, "How is that possible? How could the hospital admit him without a name?"

James interjected nonchalantly, "Money talks."

Patricia was momentarily taken aback. After a few seconds, she said, "Based on the dates, he can't be Hunter! He was transferred here at the beginning of last year, and around that time, Hunter was still in Ivara City."

Neither Nathan nor James responded.

Patricia continued, "If he's not Hunter, then why does he bear such a striking resemblance to him? And why hide his information? What dark secrets are being concealed?"

"Could he be a twin? It's the only plausible explanation," Nathan suggested.

Patricia furrowed her brows, "But as far as I know, Hunter doesn't have a twin brother!"

Nathan was equally puzzled.

Patricia asked, "Did the investigation reveal any information about his family? Who admitted him here?"

Nathan shook his head, "We've found nothing! His family is even more elusive. However, the nurse in charge mentioned that his family hasn't visited him in a long time."

A realization dawned on Patricia, and she urgently said, "That nurse must have seen his family."
