Chapter 1030 Negotiation Failed
Austin was stunned, his mind racing, thinking about how to cover up the lie.
Before he could come up with an excuse, Carter spoke again.
"Austin, I'm your father. I've watched you grow up. I've always thought you were a very sensible and worry-free kid, so I've never questioned your decisions. I trust that you know what you're doing.
Other heirs of big families all study business administration in college, but you said you wanted to study chemistry. I respected your choice and never interfered.
I know you too well! Just because I turn a blind eye doesn't mean I'm unaware. Don't deceive me; I want you to tell me the truth. You know I don't tolerate being lied to, especially by my own family."
Austin felt deeply ashamed by Carter's words.
His handsome face turned red instantly, and he lowered his head in shame.
The next moment, he suddenly knelt down in front of Carter with a thud.
"Dad, I really love Hannah! I've never felt this way about anyone before! I've never asked you for anything. This time, I'm begging you, don't tell Charles. I just want to keep Hannah by my side."
He was confessing to everything he had done.
Carter raised his hand in anger, but as he was about to strike Austin, he stopped and then slapped himself hard instead.
Austin was shocked by his behavior and immediately stood up to grab his arm.
"Dad."
Carter's eyes were red with anger, and he was on the verge of tears.
"Tell me, what did you do to Hannah? Why does she talk so strangely? Why doesn't she question her identity?"
Austin clenched his jaw and remained silent.
This was his trump card; he couldn't reveal it to anyone.
If he did, it would lose its power.
"Dad, please, don't ask anymore! I promise you, this is the last time. As long as I can keep Hannah by my side, I won't do anything to wrong the Langley family again."
Carter was so angry that the veins on his forehead bulged, and he finally couldn't hold back and slapped him hard on the face.
"Is this how I raised you? Hannah and Charles are in love, and you used despicable means to bring her here? Do you have any idea how much Charles has been suffering? Do you know that your mother and I feel so guilty every time we see him that we can't even look him in the eye? Austin, you need to act with integrity and not harm others for your own selfish desires."
Carter's slap was powerful.
Austin's face was turned to one side, and his ears were ringing.
He clenched his fists tightly, his body trembling slightly as he struggled to hold back his emotions.
After a moment, he finally exploded, releasing all the pent-up dissatisfaction in his heart.
"Hannah is mine; Charles stole my fiancée! If he hadn't appeared, I would have married Hannah long ago!
He clearly stole my fiancée, so why is no one standing up for me?
Do you know how painful it was for me when I first lost Hannah? I also drowned myself in alcohol every day, and I wished I could just die.
Charles stole my fiancée; it was like stabbing a knife into my heart!
When all of you were blessing them, saying they were a perfect match, did anyone care about my feelings? Did anyone remember that Hannah was once my fiancée?
Dad, I'm your real son. Why don't you help me? Why do you always side with Charles?"
Each of his words cut into Carter's heart like a sharp blade. The anger in Carter's chest gradually subsided. Looking at the devastated Austin, he felt nothing but heartache, and his tone unconsciously softened.
"But Hannah doesn't love you! She loves Charles! I've been there, and I deeply love your mother! I understand the pain of losing someone you love.
If Hannah loved you too, I would fully support you! If Charles dared to take her, I would stand by you even if it meant falling out with him.
But Hannah made it very clear that she agreed to be your girlfriend because you found a liver donor for her father and saved his life. She mistook her gratitude for love.
She's still young and can't distinguish between gratitude and love.
But she will grow up one day! If she realizes she doesn't love you after you get married, she won't even have the chance to regret it.
Austin, listen to me, let me take Hannah back. The Langley family is in turmoil, and everyone is looking for her.
You're so outstanding; you can definitely find a woman who truly loves you. There's no need to fixate on Hannah."
Austin looked at Carter with bloodshot eyes, full of disappointment.
"In the end, you're still siding with Charles."
Carter desperately explained, "No, I just don't want you to make a mistake! Hannah is an adult now, not a child. You can't keep this hidden forever. Sooner or later, the truth will come out. Listen to me, let go of the past grudges. You have a bright future ahead of you! Don't ruin your life over this."
Despite Carter's long speech, Austin only focused on part of it.
"As long as you don't say anything, no one will find out. I'll hide her well."
Carter couldn't help but get angry again.
"I admit Hannah is great—kind-hearted, cheerful, and very likable. But she's not worth you ruining your reputation and falling out with Charles! It’s not like she’s the only woman in the world."
Austin stubbornly replied, "You're right! But I’ve made up my mind. If it's not her, I don't want anyone else."
There was a hint of a desperate tone in his voice.
Carter was so angry that his chest hurt.
He never thought that the always sensible and obedient Austin could be so infuriating.
Carter's hand trembled as he pointed at Austin, unable to find the words for a long time.
Austin stubbornly looked at him, his chin held high, confronting Carter for the first time.
"You said it yourself; she's not the only woman in the world. Why does Charles always have to compete with me? Let him find someone else! No matter what anyone says, she's the best in my heart! I only love her."
Carter gritted his teeth.
"I'm asking you one last time, are you really going to ignore my advice and insist on this?"
Austin replied firmly, "Yes! I love Hannah, and no matter what it takes, I'll keep her by my side. She's mine; no one can take her away."
Carter's chest heaved violently with anger.
After a while, he finally found his voice.
"Fine, have it your way! But don't blame me when I tell Charles about this!"
With that, he stopped wasting time with Austin.
He knew that if he didn't completely shut down Austin's plans, Austin would only continue to make mistakes.
