Chapter 599 Martin's Arrival
Dorian had never experienced such a profound sense of shame. It was as though his dignity was being trampled underfoot by the masses, and the orchestrator of his humiliation was none other than his beloved son.Rex, however, didn't even attempt to defend himself. Instead, he boldly confessed his truth amidst the accusatory fingers pointed his way."Yes, I am attracted to men, but I see no fault in that. Marriage and love should be free of constraints, and I've never felt any shame for my preferences."No sooner had the words left his mouth, Dorian's hand shot up, landing a harsh slap across his son's face."You have no shame! You confess to such an abnormality and claim it's not disgraceful? It's unnatural, perverse even, to prefer men over women!"The mere thought of the photographs' contents made Dorian's stomach churn, as if he were on the verge of vomiting. The impact of the slap left half of Rex's face swollen, and his father's derogatory labels only served to amplify his emotional turmoil."Yes, I am different. I am a pervert. But I have no interest in women, so what should I do? You tell me, what should I do?"Dorian felt as though he had been struck by a bolt of lightning, freezing him in place.Just moments ago, he had been brimming with arrogance, an aura of invincibility surrounding him. But now, tears welled up in his eyes. His son liked men?Had no interest in women?Rex was his only son.If his son had no interest in women, then what was all this struggle for? With no one to carry on his lineage, everything seemed pointless.Suddenly, Dorian felt as though he had aged several decades. His steps became heavy and faltering as he stumbled towards the door."It's over, it's all over...completely over..." Dorian muttered."Dad..." Rex's voice trailed off.Rex couldn't bear to see his father in such a state and rushed to support him. But he was shoved away with a look of disgust, as if he were a carrier of some contagious disease. "Don't touch me, you pervert, you're repulsive..."Rex's mind went blank. His face drained of color, his eyes filled with hurt, and his lips trembled. He had anticipated his father's anger upon learning the truth, but he never imagined the extent of his disgust.Dorian left.Rex left, too.The appraiser and Dr. Hayes were also escorted out.Everyone in the office had watched the argument unfold and now observed their departure. After a moment of stunned silence, the conference room erupted into chaos."Now, what do we do?""Yeah! He just left like this after causing such a mess?""So what now? Who is going to be the CEO?""We can't just leave the position vacant, can we?"As the questions flew, all eyes landed on Ian.Now, he seemed to be the only suitable candidate.Ian leaned in closer to Martha, whispering excitedly, "Mom, you're brilliant. I never expected such a cunning plan."His path to the CEO position seemed clear.Martha smirked at him, "Of course, if I say I have a plan, then I definitely have one."She straightened her collar and continued, "Rex is clearly unfit for the CEO position. My son, Ian, is now the sole heir of the Langley family. It's only natural and justified for him to inherit the CEO position. You can all trust him to lead the company to greater heights."The expressions on everyone's faces were a mix of shock and disbelief, their eyes filled with uncertainty. At this moment, a shareholder quietly voiced his opinion, "I think we can hire someone more capable externally. We shouldn't risk everyone's interests."Martha's face darkened. "An outsider, do you think he will be truly dedicated? If he harbors any ill intentions, even a slight misstep could spell the end for the company! My son may lack management experience, but he is a part of this company. He will work wholeheartedly for its success."Her words were met with silence.Martha, believing she had convinced everyone, allowed a triumphant smile to form on her face. "It's settled then. From now on, Ian officially takes over as CEO."At this moment, the previously silent Mr. Langley spoke up."I object!"All eyes turned to him.
Mr. Langley gently cradled Maria into the arms of Madame Langley, then, leaning heavily on his cane, he rose to his feet. His gaze swept across the room, expressionless, his brows furrowed in a tight knot."The world is in chaos, a lawless jungle where self-interest is the only rule. It's all so...overwhelming," he muttered. His words hung in the air, casting a puzzled silence over the room.Martha's face drained of color, her complexion morphing from pale to a sickly shade of green."Dad, what are you talking about?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Why bring this up now, of all times?"'Please, not now,' she thought. 'This is the worst time to stir the pot.'Mr. Langley, using his cane for support, made his way over to Patricia. He took her hand in his, his gaze steady on the faces around him. "That fool Ian knows nothing. What qualifies him to run the company? Since Patricia took over, how much profit has she generated? If not for her, the company would still be mired in public opinion. Apart from her, no one else is qualified or capable of managing the company."Martha's face darkened instantly."Dad, do you realize what you're saying?" she demanded. "She conspired with another man to harm your grandson, to steal the company. And yet, you still support her. Aren't you afraid that the company will truly fall into someone else's hands?"Mr. Langley scoffed, his voice dripping with contempt. "I know exactly what kind of person Patricia is. I've watched Declan grow up day by day. He may not look exactly like Randy, Charles and Martin, but he is undoubtedly Martin's child."Anyone with eyes can see that he is Martin's son. Why didn't Dorian bring Declan here, but chose to bring Maria instead? It's because he knows that once everyone sees Declan, the rumors and news from outside will slowly fade away."Why did Alan call Ellenstein Villa District and abruptly hang up when they were supposed to bring Declan?"Don't think that just because I'm old, I don't know anything. The reason I didn't say anything earlier was to see what you were planning to do to bully her."I am well aware of the things you and Dorian have done. Today, I am standing here to see who dares to lay a finger on Patricia. To see who dares to question her position as president."Mr. Langley's hand enveloped Patricia's, the warmth from his palm seeping into her skin. Her eyes welled up, and she felt a lump in her throat. She had thought Shane believed the rumors and had misunderstood her.But she never expected that Shane had always believed in her without a doubt.Martha was so enraged that she gritted her teeth, her fingers digging into Samuel's clothes.
Samuel snapped out of his daze and stood up, saying, "Dad, don't let her fool you. You're just too kind, which is why she dared to deceive you so blatantly. How can we let such a woman stay in the company? She must be driven out."Mr. Langley was so incensed that he nearly slapped Samuel across the face.Samuel insisted, "This woman conspired with other men to kill Martin. There's absolutely no way I'll let her stay in the company."Mr. Langley was furious and asked, "What right do you have to object?"Samuel replied, " I am Martin's biological father. If she stays in the company, I will report her to the police for killing my son."Mr. Langley was so enraged that he struggled to catch his breath and nearly passed out."I've never seen you care so much about Martin before. Now, you're showing concern for your younger son as if you care about him. How did I father such a worthless creature like you?"Samuel, long accustomed to his father's attitude, wasn't angered, merely standing his ground.Mr. Langley felt as though he was on the brink of insanity.Neither was willing to back down or compromise.Their gazes locked, sparking a silent confrontation.Martha glanced at Mr. Langley, a smirk playing on her lips.Just then, a familiar sound of footsteps echoed from outside the conference room."Tap, tap, tap."
It was the sound of leather shoes against the marble floor, a sound they all recognized.Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief.
