Chapter 651 The Real Billy

Ruth was stunned, a hint of guilt flashing in her eyes.

"I didn't lie," she said.

Maximilian, expressionless, asked, "You said that woman's name is Linda? Her child is Mike?"

Ruth nodded vigorously. "Yes! Their names are Linda and Mike."

A hint of mockery crept onto Maximilian's lips. "You also claimed that the graveyard and tombstone were arranged by you?"

Ruth continued to nod. "Yes! I arranged everything! I saw them, a mother and son, all alone, so I bought the graveyard for them."

Maximilian chuckled. "Since you arranged everything, why were the names wrong? You said they were Linda and Mike, but the tombstone reads Margaret and Mike?"

Ruth fell silent.

Maximilian, unwilling to engage further, pressed, "Who instructed you to do this?"

Nervously, Ruth replied, "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

Maximilian stared at her coldly. "How could you not understand? I inquired around the neighborhood before coming here, and the information I received was completely different from what you're saying."

Upon hearing this, Ruth's immediate reaction was denial.

"It's impossible, he said everything was arranged with them, there shouldn't be any issues."

Mid-sentence, realizing she was close to revealing the truth, she quickly shut her mouth tightly.

Maximilian raised an eyebrow. "There shouldn't be any issues with what?"

Ruth shook her head. "Nothing, I have to go, I have things to do."

She turned to retreat back into the house.

Having finally found her, Maximilian wasn't about to let her leave. He firmly grasped her wrist. "Tell me quickly, who instructed you? What about that woman and her child?"

His grip was strong.

Ruth winced in pain.

"Let go of me, or I'll call the police and report you for trespassing!" she threatened.

Unfazed, Maximilian retorted, "Go ahead, call them! I'll accuse you of murdering my aunt and her child. Murder!"

At the mention of murder, Ruth's eyes widened in fear. "I didn't kill them, stop making baseless accusations!"

Maximilian smirked coldly. "Is that so? I am Maximilian, the current CEO of Nexus Holdings Corporation! You must have heard of it, right?"

Ruth's pupils dilated slightly.

Nexus Holdings Corporation.

Of course, she had heard of it.

Not only had she heard of it, but likely everyone in the country had. Nexus Holdings Corporation was a commercial giant in the country.

If Nexus Holdings Corporation was angered, the entire country would suffer.

As long as Nexus Holdings Corporation wished, they could manipulate stocks at will, influencing the nation's economy.

Looking at Ruth's terrified expression, Maximilian continued, "I will sue you. Do you think the police will believe you? Moreover, you caused the death of my aunt. I will ensure you suffer! Not just you, but your husband and son as well."

Ruth felt her legs go weak, almost collapsing to the ground.

"Don't harm them. They have nothing to do with this. It's all me, my greed."

"If you want to protect them, then answer my questions truthfully!" Maximilian demanded, "Who instructed you to do this?"

Ruth shook her head. "I don't know, I've never met him, never seen his face. One day, a man approached me, gave me a large sum of money, asked me to ‘help' him. Soon after, my tenant and her son died in a car accident. He arranged for someone to take care of the aftermath, including the graveyard and tombstone. My tenant's name was indeed Linda, her son was Mike. She came here with her son over a decade ago. She wasn't the woman in your photo, not as beautiful as her. Linda passed away shortly after, and that man came to the place she lived, removing all photos of her. Then he placed photos of Margaret and Mike."

She quickly added, trying to distance herself, "This has nothing to do with me. I didn't kill Linda and her son. My responses were all taught by that man. This has nothing to do with me, please don't call the police on me. My husband and son are completely innocent in this matter."

Maximilian furrowed his brows tightly. "Why didn't you see his face?"

Ruth explained, "Every time we met, he wore a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a mask, even speaking in a low voice."

Maximilian asked, "You don't remember his face, but you remember his build, right? How tall was he? Was he slim or heavy? Any distinctive features like birthmarks or scars?"

Ruth thought carefully, then said, "He was quite tall, taller than me. I'm about 5 feet tall, he was around 6 feet. His physique was like a model's. Although I couldn't see his face, I felt he must be very handsome."

Maximilian recalled something, took out his phone, and showed Ruth a photo, asking, "Look, is that person in this photo?"

The photo was taken a long time ago when the Hill and the Taylor families went to the beach together. In the picture, he, Lisa, Billy, Uncle Joe, and Susan stood side by side on the beach, facing away from the camera. The setting sun cast a warm glow on them.

They looked beautiful in the photo.

It was a rare moment of the two families taking a picture together, so he had kept it all this time.

Ruth leaned in to examine the photo on the phone carefully, then pointed confidently at one of the figures' backs. "It's him! It's definitely him! Although I didn't see his face, I remember his back."

Following Ruth's finger, Maximilian looked at the person she indicated and was shocked.

It was Billy. It was really him.

Although he had guessed the answer on the way there, he was still immensely surprised when the landlady pointed him out.

Why would he do this? Hadn't the two families always had a good relationship? Why resort to such underhanded tactics behind their backs? What couldn't be discussed openly? Why engage in such deceitful actions?
