Chapter 12 Cruelly Torturing Ex-Husband
Due to bumping into Hunter, literally, Patricia didn't have time to go grocery shopping. She went straight to the nursery to pick up her children. As soon as she reached the school gate, Charles and Fannie walked out, holding hands.
Spotting Patricia, they immediately ran over excitedly and hugged her legs. Charles affectionately rubbed against her leg and said, "Mommy, I missed you so much after just one day!"
Afraid of falling behind her brother, Fannie chimed in, looking adorable. "Me too, me too..."
Seeing her lively and cute children, Patricia's heart was filled to the brim. "Mommy had something that delayed her, so there wasn't enough time to buy groceries. Shall we go to the supermarket together and then cook at home?"
Fannie loved going to the supermarket and jumped up, cheering, "Great! I can buy chocolate again!"
When she received Patricia's warning gaze, she immediately closed her mouth, lowered her head, a little scheme was ringing in her mind. The three of them went to the nearby supermarket and chose some fresh ingredients.
While passing by the snacks section, Fannie's mouth watered, and she kept salivating. "Mommy, I won't buy a lot, just a little. I haven't had chocolate in a long time. Just buy me a little!"
Patricia firmly stated, "No, you've been eating too many sweets lately. If you keep eating them, you'll get cavities. You must restrain yourself."
Fannie lowered her head, looking pitiful with her small expressions. Patricia couldn't bear it and compromised once again, "Okay, just one box. After you finish it, you cannot have any more."
"Yay! I knew mommy loves me the most!"
Fannie happily wanted to jump up and kiss Patricia, but with her small arms and legs, she could only reach Patricia's waist. Patricia crouched down, bringing her face closer.
Fannie immediately pecked her cheek and exclaimed, "Mommy, I love you so much."
Patricia burst into laughter, amused by her innocent and cute appearance. After buying the groceries, Patricia took them to the snack section.
They had agreed to only buy one box of chocolate, but things got out of hand, and they ended up with a large bag of snacks, including potato chips, Oreo cookies, and pine nuts. Patricia was helpless and resigned herself to the situation.
Upon returning home, they all went to the kitchen to cook. The two little ones dutifully rolled up their sleeves to help with the food preparation.
Charles brought up an old topic, "Mommy, you haven't told us how Randy is doing today. Is his illness serious? Do you really think you can cure him? Does he know about Fannie and me?"
Thinking about Randy, Patricia's heart ached once again, but she had to pretend to be easygoing in order to not worry her two treasures. "Who is Mommy? I am the world's best cardiac specialist. If I can't save my own son, I might as well resign."
Upon hearing her words, the two little ones breathed a sigh of relief. Fannie couldn't wait to ask, "When can we meet him then?"
Patricia fell silent, her expression hesitant. Charles understood her concerns and probed, "Mommy, does that mean we can't meet him for now?"
Patricia nodded, "You and Randy look exactly alike. If you two meet, your father will definitely find out, and then he will take you away from me."
Although she had become stronger and wealthier, the Langley family was even more wealthy and powerful. She could never match Martin. The disappointment on the faces of the two little ones was evident.
Charles patted Patricia's shoulder, like a mature person, "Mommy, don't worry, I will become strong someday and take Randy back for you."
Patricia treated it as him consoling himself and didn't take it to heart. After finishing the vegetables, the two little ones went to the living room to watch TV, while Patricia continued cooking in the kitchen.
Before long, Jade arrived with a suitcase, excitedly saying, "Hello, I'm here! I've decided to move in and live with you. Do you welcome me?"
Charles and Fannie immediately ran over, each hugging one of her legs. "Welcome, welcome! We'll get to see you every day from now on, how amazing!" Fannie's words were particularly sweet, making Jade feel overjoyed.
Jade took her suitcase and moved it to the guest bedroom on her own. In the middle of cooking, Martin's video call came in. Knowing that Randy must have woken up, Patricia couldn't afford any delay.
She asked Jade to watch the food, then immediately went to her room to answer the video call. Randy, who had been crying nonstop, quieted down as soon as he saw her, his little shoulders shrugging in utter grievance.
"Mommy, where are you? Are you leaving me again?"
Patricia's heart ached at his tears, and she hurriedly soothed him, "How could Mommy ever abandon Randy? Mommy knows your stomach doesn't feel well, so she came back to cook delicious food for you. There are two dishes almost ready. Can you wait patiently for me?"
Randy, fearing that he would be abandoned, didn’t completely believe her, "Really?"
Patricia immediately raised her hand to swear, "I promise, I will be there within an hour. Mommy has made chicken soup for you! It tastes really good."
Seeing her determined expression, Randy finally felt reassured, "Okay."
Randy, a very serious child and quite trusting of Patricia, reluctantly believed her. "Then I'll wait for you. You must come, okay!"
Patricia nodded and spent a while coaxing the little one before letting him hang up the phone.
When she came out of the room, Jade had finished cooking the remaining two dishes.
Patricia quickly took a few bites of rice, then went to take a shower, change clothes, and packed the chicken soup simmering on the stove into a thermos, as well as some food.
"Jade, I may not come back tonight. Please take care of Charles and Fannie! Also, please take them to kindergarten tomorrow morning."
Fannie shouted with reluctance, "Mommy!"
Patricia gently rubbed her head with affection, "Be good and listen to Jade, Randy is sick now, so I have to take care of him a bit more. You won't blame Mommy, right?"
Being dependent on each other for four years and sleeping together every night, this was the first night they would be separated. Fannie couldn't help but feel reluctant, but she also understood.
"Mommy, I won't blame you! Charles and I have had you for four years. You should spend time with Randy. Don't worry, I'll listen to Jade and Charles."
The more understanding she was, the more Patricia felt heartache. Afraid that Fannie wouldn't feel reassured, Charles held her shoulder and promised confidently, "I'll take good care of our little sister. Mommy, just focus on taking care of Randy!"
Patricia felt relieved, thinking of Randy waiting for her, she left with a heavy heart. When she arrived at the hospital, Randy was sitting on the bed facing the door, eagerly watching the entrance.
Every time there was movement at the door, he would stretch his neck to have a look, only for hope to turn into disappointment. When Patricia pushed the door open and entered, his dim eyes finally lit up. He jumped off the bed, put on his shoes, and ran towards Patricia.
"Mommy, you finally came!"
Afraid that the hot chicken soup in her hand would burn him, Patricia moved the thermos away with one hand and embraced him with the other.
"Be careful, don't run too fast! What if you fall?"
Randy laughed; his eyes crescent-shaped like the moon in the sky. "I saw you Mommy, when I looked, I was so happy. I was afraid you wouldn't come."
Patricia knew that his lack of security, since childhood, was the reason for his behavior. She let go of him, placed the chicken soup on the bedside table, and helped him to sit on the hospital bed.
While serving him the soup, she said, "Since I promised you, I was definitely coming! Are you hungry? This is the chicken soup I made myself, and it's still hot. It will nourish your stomach."
Martin, who had been forgotten by both of them, frowned. He looked at the chicken soup with a faint yellow oil swirl, pursing his lips in disdain, "Randy doesn't like chicken soup."
This guy was quite picky with food. Because of this, Martin had personally learned how to cook. Even so, Randy was still picky, except for a few specific dishes, he wouldn't touch the others.
Especially chicken soup, he said it had a fishy smell that made him uncomfortable, let alone drink it. His words seemed to be directed at thin air. Randy and Patricia completely ignored her.
Patricia used a spoon to skim off the oil from the chicken soup, took a sip, blew on it to cool it down, and then fed it to Randy. He, who usually disliked chicken soup, unexpectedly opened his mouth and drank it. Not only did he show no disgust, but he even praised it.
Patricia turned her head and gave Martin a fierce glare, as if her eyes were saying that Martin was deceiving her again.
Martin was at a loss for words, his brow furrowed, and his mouth twitched involuntarily. The fragrance of the chicken soup filled the entire ward. As he watched Randy drink mouthful after mouthful, Martin's stomach let out a growl.
He pursed his thin lips, set aside his laptop on his thigh, and walked over with a slow pace. He glanced at the food in the thermos lunchbox and lightly said, "What about mine?"
Without even looking back, Patricia asked, "You haven't eaten yet?"
Martin, shook his head, when did he have time to eat? He had been sitting in the room, to prevent Randy from causing trouble. He even handled official matters here.
In the past, if he was hungry, he was hungry. After all, his eating habits had always been irregular, and he didn't feel hungry when he was busy. But now, seeing Randy, who had always been picky, drink so happily, he surprisingly felt extremely hungry.
Seeing him not answering, Patricia couldn't be bothered to ask further. Absentmindedly, she said, "Sorry, I didn't know you hadn't eaten. I only brought Randy's portion."
