Chapter 738 The Uninvited Guest
Patricia sighed, squatted down, and put a black armband and a white boutonniere on Hunter, "Time's almost up. We need to take him for cremation."
Hunter clung to Patricia's hand, "Sister Patricia, what happened to Gabriel? Why is he ignoring me? Why isn't he talking?"
Hunter didn't know the meaning of life and death. But he felt this deep, confusing sadness that made him want to cry and feel scared.
Patricia couldn't bring herself to tell him Gabriel was dead. She pointed to the sky, "Gabriel's gone to heaven. He'll always be with you up there."
Hunter seemed to get it and placed his hand on his chest, "But why does it hurt so much here?"
He started crying harder, his shoulders shaking and sobbing.
Patricia didn't know how to explain or comfort him, "Gabriel loved you the most. If you cry, he'll be sad and worried. Let's be good and don't cry, okay? See all those stars at night? Gabriel's one of them. If you miss him, just look up. He'll always be with you."
Hunter looked up, but all he saw was the white ceiling.
Patricia patted his head like he was a kitten or puppy, "Be good. Let's go to bid farewell to Gabriel, okay?"
Hearing "farewell", Hunter broke down again, "No, I don't want Gabriel to leave. I want Gabriel."
He tried to lift Gabriel out of the ice coffin.
Gabriel's upper body hung out while his lower body stayed inside. Hunter didn't notice and kept pulling, "I want to take Gabriel home. I'll protect him. Dad and Stepmom won't bully him again. I'll protect Gabriel. No one will bully him."
He said this incoherently, but Patricia understood. Images of Gabriel's injuries flashed in her mind. So, did his dad and stepmom do this?
While Patricia was thinking, Hunter had already dragged Gabriel's body out of the ice coffin.
"Gabriel, I'm taking you home," Hunter cried as he dragged Gabriel. The white cloth covering Gabriel stayed in the coffin, and his burial clothes got crumpled.
Patricia didn't expect him to be this strong. Just then, she saw Martin and the pallbearers coming in to arrange the cremation, "Martin, help quickly!"
Martin rushed over with the pallbearers, trying to separate Hunter and Gabriel.
Martin struggled to pull Hunter away, "What's going on?"
Patricia quickly replied, "He can't accept that Hunter is dead."
She didn't know Gabriel's real name, so she still called him Hunter.
Patricia and Martin thought Hunter had lost it and couldn't know the meaning of life and death. She regretted bringing him here.
Hunter clung to Gabriel, refusing to let go, like a crazy man. When everyone tried to separate them, he thought they were taking Gabriel away and struggled madly, "Don't take Gabriel! Don't take my Gabriel! You're all bad people!"
Today's scene was just like yesterday's. Hunter was out of control, agitated, and frantic. No one could hold him down.
Martin said, "Patricia, give him a sedative, quickly."
They knew too many sedatives weren't good, but right now, it was the only way to calm Hunter down.
Patricia saw Hunter was out of control and quickly pulled out the sedative from her bag.
Martin and the pallbearers turned Hunter over, giving Patricia a space.
She seized the moment and injected the sedative into Hunter's butt, pushing the medication in as fast as she could.
Hunter said, "Gabriel, I want Gabriel, Gabriel." Hunter kept shouting, even as the sedative started to take effect. His grip on Gabriel finally loosened, and his hands went limp.
Patricia arranged the chairs in the funeral parlour into a row and had the pallbearers lay Hunter flat on them.
Martin checked his watch, "It's almost eleven o'clock!"
Patricia looked at the sleeping Hunter. He was drenched in sweat, tears still wet at the corners of his eyes, and his hair stuck messily to his forehead. She reached out and tucked his hair behind his ear.
With a sigh, Patricia handed Hunter over to Martin and took Gabriel for cremation.
Everyone around them was crying desperately. The sounds of horns and firecrackers were incessant. But for them, except for Patricia and eight pallbearers, there was no one else to see Gabriel off.
As Gabriel was pushed into the cremation furnace, Patricia felt an indescribable sensation in her heart.
It was over.
Everything was over.
Their two-year entanglement had finally come to an end.
Gabriel was dead.
Once the Koch family spy was caught, everything would go back to how it was before.
The cremation would take six hours.
Patricia first took Hunter back to the hotel with Martin, leaving Martin to take care of him, and then returned to the crematorium to collect Gabriel's ashes.
Patricia knew nothing about Gabriel, so she didn't find a cemetery for him in Country Y. Instead, she chose to take his ashes back to Sunset Bay. In the future, during the anniversary of his death, Patricia could visit Gabriel on behalf of Hunter.
She temporarily placed Gabriel's ashes in the hotel, while Martin had to return to the Koch family to deal with the spy issue.
Patricia looked at the still-sleeping Hunter and asked worriedly, "What about Brother Hunter? Are we just going to leave him alone in the hotel? What if he wakes up and can't find us?"
After a pause, she added, "Why don't we take him with us?"
Martin shook his head, "No way! He looks exactly like Hunter! Even though we know they are not the same person, others definitely won't believe it! To avoid unnecessary trouble, you stay here and take care of him. I'll go back alone."
Patricia thought about it and agreed he was right. If this got back to the Hill family, they would definitely think they were protecting Hunter. To be safe, it was better to take Hunter directly back to Sunset Bay.
Patricia said, "Alright! I'll stay here and take care of him! You, Riley and Sebastian deal with the Koch family spy and come over as soon as you're done! I'll wait for you!"
The words "I'll wait for you" shocked Martin. His eyes was red slightly, and he suddenly felt a sense of disbelief, smiling as he ruffled Patricia's hair.
Martin said, "I'll come back as soon as I finish things there! Wait for me."
Patricia nodded, watching Martin leave before closing the door.
After Martin left, Patricia opened her suitcase, intending to place Gabriel's ashes inside, when the doorbell suddenly rang.
She frowned slightly. Martin had only been gone for half an hour, so it couldn't be him. If it wasn't him, who could it be? Who else knew they were staying at the hotel?
Patricia suspiciously opened the door and was slightly stunned when she saw the person standing outside.
Patricia said, "It's you."
