Chapter 883 Charles in Critical Condition

The nurse spotted something off with her. She was wobbling and looked like she was about to hit the deck, so the nurse jumped in to catch her.

"Hey, don't sweat it, we'll do everything we can to save him! Are you flying solo here? Where's the patient's fam? It's better to have more folks around," the nurse said, trying to calm her down.

The nurse was seriously worried she might lose it and cause a scene. More people would give her some backup.

Hannah was leaning on the nurse with one hand, the other bracing on the desk. She shut her eyes, fighting to stay conscious, mentally chanting not to pass out.

The more intense the moment, the tougher she had to be. Charles needed her! He'd pull through. He had to!

After a bit, Hannah pulled herself together and said, "I'll sign!"

The nurse nodded, "Hang tight! Besides signing, there are some forms to fill out for the patient. I'll grab his records from the ER."

"Thanks!" After thanking the nurse and watching her leave, Hannah felt a wave of dizziness. Everything around her was spinning, making her head swim.

To avoid passing out, she quickly found a bench, shivering as she pulled out her phone and called Stella.

Stella answered, still in a snarky mood, "What's up? You actually got time to call me!"

Hearing Stella's voice, Hannah broke down, all her fears crashing in.

Her mind had been blank earlier, but now it was flooded with fear, worry, and terror.

Her eyes went red.

Her nose tingled, and tears started to flow.

"Stella." She used all her strength just to say Stella's name.

Stella immediately sensed something was off, "What's wrong? Did Charles mess with you? Tell me, and I'll handle it."

Hannah shook her head, tears falling.

"No, it's not... it's Charles... he... he..." Hannah struggled to get the words out. It was the same last night, and now it was happening again.

In critical moments, she couldn't speak clearly.

"What happened to Charles? Just spill it! What did he do?" Stella's worried words made Hannah lose it, and she burst into tears.

After letting it all out, she finally managed to speak, "He was in a car accident and he's in the ER at Cleveland Clinic. Get here fast."

Stella was shocked, "What? A car accident? I'm on my way. Don't freak out. It'll be okay. Wait for me. I'm coming."

On the other end, besides her voice, there were sounds of Stella packing.

It seemed Stella was already getting ready to leave.

"Okay! Hurry up!" She should've called Stella sooner.

But her mind had been blank, and she couldn't think straight. Everything she did was on autopilot.

Now, she was finally conscious.

Shortly after the call ended, the nurse came out with a medical record folder.

Hannah quickly wiped her tears and stood up.

The nurse held the folder in her left hand and a pen in her right, asking questions while filling out the form.

"What's the patient's name?"

"Charles Watson."

"Age?"

"He's twenty-seven."

"Blood type?"

Hannah answered the first two questions without a hitch.

But she had no clue about his blood type.

Seeing she couldn't answer, the nurse moved on.

"Any medical history or allergies?"

Hannah felt a bit guilty. She still couldn't answer.

Even though she'd known Charles for two months, they'd only spent less than two weeks together, so she hadn't learned such details.

"Any family medical history?"

Hannah's tears, which she had just stopped, started falling again.

"Sorry, I don't know these things. I'm so useless. I should've called his family right away to get them here!"

Her mistake had caused a delay.

The nurse, super chill and patient, said, "You can call them and ask over the phone. Same difference!"

Hannah, finally snapping out of it, called Stella again.

Stella picked up fast, sounding all urgent, "Hannah, what's up? Is Charles okay?"

Hannah, still crying, said, "Stella, the nurse needs his info. I only know his name and age! Do you know the rest?"

Before she could finish, a guy's voice came through the line.

Randy chimed in, "I got it! Whatever the nurse needs, just ask me."

Hannah recognized Randy, Charles's brother, and her eyes lit up. "What's his blood type?"

Randy answered right away, "AB."

Hannah had the call on speaker, so the nurse heard Randy loud and clear.

As Randy rattled off Charles's info, the nurse quickly jotted it down.

"Any medical history?"

"None."

"Any allergies?"

"None."

"Any family medical history?"

"None. Our family's always been healthy."

With Randy's help, the form got filled out in no time.

After everything was done, the nurse asked, "For the family member's signature, will you sign, or should we wait for him to get here?"

Hannah knew signing meant taking responsibility.

But in this emergency, she didn't hesitate, "I'll sign."

She grabbed the pen and scribbled her name.

The nurse said, "I'll take these to the ER."

Hannah grabbed the nurse's hand, her voice shaking, "Please, you have to save him. He's only twenty-seven."

The nurse replied, "We'll do our best! Don't worry."

With that, she took the folder and left.

As soon as the nurse was gone, Hannah felt all her strength drain away. Her legs buckled, and she collapsed onto the bench.

At that moment, everything around her seemed to fade away.

People were just shadows, rushing past.

She stared blankly at the ER door, too tense and scared to react.

When Stella and Randy arrived, the ER door was still shut.

Stella spotted Hannah sitting there, staring at the door. She slowed down and walked over, placing a hand on Hannah's shoulder. "Hannah, how's Charles?"

Hearing Stella's voice, Hannah looked up mechanically.

Stella finally saw her clearly and was shocked, cupping Hannah's face, "Hannah, what's wrong? How did you end up like this?"

Hannah's once rosy face was now ghostly pale, her eyes vacant.

Stella had never seen her like this. It broke her heart.

Stella's warm hands slowly transferred their heat to Hannah's cold skin, warming her up.

Hannah tried to speak, but her throat was dry and sore, no sound coming out.

Seeing her like this, Stella's heart ached even more. She pulled Hannah into a hug.

All the questions she had got stuck in her throat.

She knew that when someone was extremely sad, scared, and upset, they could become dazed and unresponsive like this.

Hannah's state made her both heartbroken and scared.

All she could do was silently pray, hoping Charles would be okay.

Hannah lay quietly in Stella's arms, not crying, not making a fuss, just lying there, listening to Stella's heartbeat.

She didn't know how much time had passed when the ER door finally opened.

A nurse, wearing a mask, came out, looking anxious.

The nurse asked, "Is Charles's family here?"

Hearing Charles's name, Hannah seemed to get a burst of energy. She immediately got up from Stella's arms and stumbled to the nurse.

Stella and Randy quickly followed, "Nurse, we're Charles's family. How is he now?"
