Chapter 630 Hunter Appears
Patricia arrived at the hospital with a heavy heart. To avoid Martin noticing anything unusual, she stood outside the door taking deep breaths repeatedly, adjusting her emotions before finally pushing the door open.
Ryan said something to Martin. Martin didn't smile, but instead Ryan made himself laugh, holding his stomach and laughing heartily.
When Patricia entered, he was still laughing, wiping the tears from his eyes with the back of his hand as he laughed.
"Martin, let me tell you, Randy is completely smitten now. Really, you didn't see the way he is, obeying his wife's every word, even more afraid of his wife than you are.""
Patricia fell silent.
Ryan continued, "When Lassie gives him a stern look, he doesn't even dare to breathe! How can he be so timid? If I get married, I definitely won't be as afraid as you guys, the wife should be pampered, but there should also be principles and boundaries! I have to maintain my stance."
"Don't mock him either. When you truly fall in love with a woman one day, you might end up having even fewer principles and boundaries than them. Women are meant to be pampered, otherwise how can she be devoted to you?"
Patricia gave him a cold look.
After all that, he was laughing at Carter!
But what he said was true.
Carter and Lassie had a business alliance.
Perhaps in the early days of their marriage, neither of them had thought they would fall in love with each other.
Now, Carter truly pampered Lassie to the core, not any less than Martin did with Patricia.
It was quite nice this way.
Having a deep emotional connection as a couple was better than being strangers.
Ryan sneered, "I won't be like that!"
Patricia couldn't be bothered to discuss matters of the heart with a single man like him.
When he finally had a wife, when he truly fell for a woman, he'd understand.
She was actually looking forward to the day he couldn't live up to his words.
Patricia placed the water glass on the bedside table, put the medicine next to it, tested the water's temperature with her lips, finding it just right.
"Hurry up and drink it!" Kaleb said.
Martin took the cup, tilted his head back, and swallowed the medicine.
The medicine was bitter.
Every time he finished it, bitterness lingered from his tongue to his throat.
But he didn't mind at all.
As long as it helped him get better, he would even take poison.
Ryan cautiously glanced at the door, seeing it tightly closed. He deliberately lowered his voice, stretched his neck, and asked Patricia, "Patricia, is Kaleb really your biological father?"
Something about their conversation seemed odd to him.
Kaleb kept referring to her as his daughter.
But he had never heard Patricia call him father.
If they were truly father and daughter, why did they seem so distant?
If they hadn't seen each other for over twenty years and just recognized each other, it might be a bit awkward and uncomfortable, but clearly, that wasn't the case.
He felt Patricia avoided looking directly at Kaleb.
Her gaze always seemed evasive, almost guilty.
Martin realized he was asking about things he shouldn't, furrowing his brows and calling out, "Ryan."
Ryan grinned. "I was just curious! I wanted to ask since my second day here, but never found the opportunity!"
Patricia didn't intend to keep it from Ryan. In fact, if she didn't tell him, she feared he might slip up, so she explained, "I'm not his biological daughter, but for Martin's illness, I have to temporarily pretend to be his daughter."
Patricia recounted the whole situation to Ryan.
As she spoke, she deliberately lowered her voice, afraid of being overheard.
After hearing it all, Ryan suddenly understood.
"So that's how it is!" he said, miming zipping his lips shut, "Rest assured, for Martin' sake, I'll keep this a secret, never mentioning a word."
Even though he felt it was unfair.
Deceiving an old man who longed for his daughter like this.
But people are selfish; for Martin's sake, they had to go against their conscience.
They would sort everything out once Martin recovered.
Charles was efficient in his work.
In less than two hours, the phone rang.
Patricia didn't want Martin to worry, so she answered the call on the balcony, leaning against the railing absentmindedly watching Martin chat with Ryan, asking, "How is it going?"
Charles said, "The results I found are the same as Nathan's."
Patricia fell silent.
Charles continued, ""Whether by name or facial recognition, there is no information on this person. I'm afraid I made a mistake; I isolated his features one by one, searched through them all, but found nothing.""
Patricia asked, "So what's the conclusion?"
Charles explained, "For a person to disappear so completely, there's only one possibility! He's truly dead, and all his information has been erased."
Patricia inquired, "What if he changed his name, had plastic surgery? Could we still find him?"
This was her greatest fear so far.
Debbie had undergone plastic surgery based on her mother's image, impersonating her and becoming Grace.
If Hunter also had plastic surgery and changed his name, lurking secretly by her side, it would be terrifying!
Charles fell silent for a moment and said, "I'm also afraid of that possibility, which is why I isolated his features one by one and used software to identify him. I believe if a person undergoes plastic surgery, the nose, mouth, face shape, eyes can all change, but the gaze remains the same. If Hunter really had plastic surgery, I should be able to recognize him by his eyes."
Patricia seemed to understand, finally relaxing her nerves and saying, "So, he's really dead."
Charles affirmed, "Yes, he should be dead! The person you saw this morning was probably just someone who resembled him."
Patricia's tense nerves finally relaxed completely.
She knew Charles's abilities the best.
If he said Hunter was dead, then he must be dead.
Perhaps she had been overly suspicious today.
With the main matter settled, Charles asked, "How's Dad? Is he feeling a bit better? You said this morning his condition was improving, is his illness starting to turn around?"
Patricia reassured, "Yes! Kaleb's treatment plan is gentle and effective! Your dad has been in good spirits these past few days. Once he improves a bit more, we'll go back to Ivara City for further treatment."
It was a lengthy process; they couldn't stay here indefinitely.
And buying medication abroad would be more convenient.
"Okay! Take good care of Dad, call me if you need anything!""Charles spoke maturely, like an adult.
"Will do!"
After the call, Patricia felt considerably lighter, her smile more frequent.
Days passed by.
Kaleb truly lived up to his reputation as a doctor; under his care, Martin's condition gradually improved.
He didn't stick to a single medication but adjusted the treatment plan daily based on Martin's condition.
One morning, Patricia came to find Kaleb early.
As soon as she walked in, she saw a familiar figure, and she froze, blurting out, "Hunter, what are you doing here?"
He really hadn't died. Could even Charles make a mistake?
