Chapter 616 Kaleb is Dr. Tate
Patricia walked for a long time before finally finding the mansion where Dr. Tate resided.
She stood at the front gate, adjusted her clothes and hair, and pressed the doorbell, her hand trembling.
The doorbell rang for a while, and then an old butler came out from inside.
Seeing Patricia, he looked her up and down before curiously asking, "Miss, whom are you looking for?"
With a polite smile, Patricia replied, "Excuse me, is Dr. Tate living here? I am Maximilian, a friend of Mr. Reed's. He asked me to come here and find Dr. Tate!"
Upon hearing the name "Maximilian," the old butler hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "I'm sorry, but you've come to the wrong place. We don't have a Dr. Tate here."
After saying that, he turned to go back inside.
Patricia had finally found her way here, and with hope so close, she couldn't just watch the butler leave. She quickly reached through the iron railing, grabbed hold of the butler's clothes, and pleaded, "Please, open the door and let me in. I have urgent matters with Dr. Tate."
The butler was being held back, unable to leave, so he turned around helplessly and said, "Miss, we really don't have a Dr. Tate here. Even if you don't let me go, I can't conjure up a doctor for you."
Patricia was unwilling and said, "How is that possible? Mr. Reed gave me the address, and he told me that Dr. Tate lived there. How could he be mistaken!"
The butler looked at her with affection on his face.
"Young lady, I really didn't lie to you! We really don't have Dr. Tate here! Ask Mr. Reed to look again for you, or... ask him to come personally."
Patricia didn't catch the hidden meaning in his last sentence and disappointedly let go of the butler's clothes.
"Did I really make a mistake?"
The butler nodded. "You did make a mistake! This is a private place, and I can't just let you out casually; otherwise, my boss will scold me! Young lady, you should go back first!"
Seeing that he said it like that and his expression didn't seem like he was lying, Patricia finally believed his words.
She thought to herself, 'How could it be so smooth?
'If finding Dr. Tate was so easy, wouldn't many people come to see him every day?'
"Thank you!"
After thanking him, Patricia lowered her gaze, turned around dejectedly, and walked away.
Only when her figure disappeared did a familiar figure slowly walk out of the house.
The butler approached, helplessly saying, "Master... the young master introduced her. Is it really a good idea to let her go like this?"
Kaleb looked in the direction Patricia had left, and although he felt sorry deep down, he remained firm. "Remember, in the future, no matter who comes to look for me, say that this person doesn't exist."
The butler nodded, indicating that he understood.
Kaleb took one last deep look at the direction Patricia had left and turned back into the house.
Because this was a villa area, the people living here were either rich or noble.
They all had their private cars for transportation.
So there was no bus stop or taxi stand at the entrance.
Patricia had called a taxi online, but the closest taxi to this place would take at least half an hour to arrive, so she could only stand at the entrance and wait.
While waiting for the taxi, she pondered and pondered but couldn't figure it out.
With Maximilian's abilities, how could he make a mistake?
Patricia found the security guard who had stopped her from entering earlier and chatted with him aimlessly, "How long have you been working here?"
Thinking that she was Maximilian's friend, the security guard became much more friendly and answered promptly.
"It's been five years," he said.
Dr. Tate had also disappeared five years ago.
The timing coincided with the security guard's tenure here.
Patricia felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart, but she didn't show it on her face. "So, you must know everyone here. I heard Mr. Reed say that all the residents here are important figures in America."
The security guard's vanity was greatly satisfied. He raised his chin proudly and said, "Of course! I know all the property owners here, and I am quite familiar with them!"
Seizing the opportunity, Patricia asked, "Do you know Dr. Tate, who lives in Building 28?"
The security guard hesitated for a moment.
"It's not Dr. Tate who lives in Building 28! It's Kaleb, Mr. Reed's uncle," he replied.
Hearing this, Patricia was also puzzled. "Kaleb lives in Building 28?"
The security guard nodded. "Yes! We don't have an owner named Dr. Tate here."
This was a villa area.
The residents inside were all prominent figures.
One of the first tasks when working here was to get to know the owners and understand their status in order to avoid accidentally offending someone who cannot be offended, or it would be disastrous for him.
Besides, few people lived here.
He soon got to know everyone inside very well.
Patricia wondered, "But isn't Kaleb living in Building 15?"
When they parted just now, Kaleb clearly stated that he lived in Building 15.
The security guard shook his head, very confident in his response. "No, it's not possible. I would not make a mistake. Kaleb lives in Building 28, while Mr. Reed lives in Building 15! Kaleb is used to being alone, so he deliberately chose to live apart from his nephew and specifically chose Buildings 15 and 28. This way, he can maintain distance and have someone to take care of him if needed."
As the security guard spoke, Patricia was left in a daze, even more confused.
Why had Mr. Reed tell her his uncle's address?
And why had Kaleb told her he lived in Building 15?
A thought flashed through her mind, but before she could grasp it, it vanished.
Suppressing her doubts in her heart, Patricia asked, "Are the uncle and nephew on good terms?"
The security guard grinned and said, "Sure! Of course, their relationship is better than that of a father and son! Because their relationship is so good, many people jokingly say that Mr. Reed is Kaleb's illegitimate son! Hehe..."
As he continued speaking, he couldn't help but chuckle.
Obviously, he didn't take it seriously and treated it as a joke.
Patricia and the security guard continued chatting non-stop.
The taxi arrived just after Patricia asked about everything she wanted to know.
After bidding the security guard farewell, Patricia got into the taxi.
On the way back, she opened her phone's browser and typed in the names Maximilian and Kaleb in the search bar.
The online content she found was similar to what the security guard had mentioned.
But what was mostly discussed online were just rumors and gossip.
For example, why hasn't Kaleb gotten married at such an old age?
Or why had Kaleb handed over the company's power to his nephew Maximilian? Could Maximilian be his illegitimate son?
Or who were Maximilian's biological parents?
It was all just gossip.
Patricia temporarily lost interest, closed the page, and typed Kaleb and Dr. Tate in the search bar.
The results either showed news solely about Kaleb or solely about Dr. Tate.
There was no news about the two of them together.
She couldn't even find a photo of Dr. Tate online.
Ah...
Frustrated, Patricia shut off her phone. Her temples throbbed, her head hurt, and she felt a stifling frustration building up in her chest.
