Chapter 655 Martin Investigates the Truth

After Kaleb altered the prescription, even though Martin only used the medication three times, he could clearly feel the changes in his body.

Each time the prescription was altered, he could feel significant effects.

On that day, after taking the medicine, Martin asked Ryan, "How is Maximilian doing?"

Ryan shook his head. "I went to check on him, he's still in the ICU, not awake yet. Patricia mentioned that if he gets through these three days without complications, he can be transferred to a regular ward."

Pausing for a moment, lowering his voice and pretending to be mysterious, he added, "However, these three days are crucial; if anything goes wrong, it's over."

Martin furrowed his brows tightly.

Ryan noticed his contemplation and couldn't help but ask, "Martin, what's on your mind?"

With a serious expression, Martin said, "Ryan, do me a favor."

Ryan asked, "What favor?"

Martin replied, "Go check the car Maximilian was driving that day!"

Ryan realized something and widened his eyes. "Martin, what are you implying?"

Martin nodded. "I find it too coincidental! Maximilian just finished talking to Patricia and immediately got into a car accident. I suspect someone wanted to silence him."

Ryan cursed under his breath, "The Hill family is too ruthless! Despite their decades-long relationship with Kaleb, they resorted to such tactics behind the scenes."

Martin said, "It's just a suspicion, not confirmed yet! Maybe I'm overthinking it!"

Ryan nodded firmly. "Alright, I'll go check it out!"

Martin added, "Also, check the route he took that day! Maybe you'll find some clues."

Ryan made a salute gesture. "OK, I'll make sure to complete the task! You wait here for my good news."

Martin, feeling uneasy, cautioned, "Be careful, uncovering the truth is important, but your safety is paramount! If it's indeed premeditated murder, they could target Maximilian and you. Besides, this is D Country, preserving life is crucial. Randy almost lost his life because of me; I don't want anything to happen to you."

Ryan gestured OK. "Don't worry, I know what to do."

With that, he turned and left.

Martin's brows remained furrowed, showing no signs of relaxation.

He hoped he was just overthinking.

Otherwise, they might have unwittingly stepped into a conspiracy.

Little did they know, while Ryan was conducting his investigation, another group of people was also secretly looking into the matter.

Ryan had someone secretly investigate the burnt-out sedan.

Meanwhile, he personally drove to the scene of the accident to inspect it.

Due to the severe accident, the area was cordoned off, preserving the scene exactly as it was during the crash.

Ryan parked his car on a distant lawn a few minutes from the site. There were clear dark marks on the road left by tire friction, and they were quite long, about several tens of meters. The marks also had black dots on them.

Ryan squatted down, touched some of the black dots with his hand, and sniffed them.

Although the scent had faded somewhat, he could still detect a faint smell of gasoline.

So, the fuel tank had been leaking since early on?

Coming from a wealthy background, he knew that drivers in affluent families would regularly have their vehicles inspected. Any issues would be promptly addressed for the owner's safety.

If Maximilian's car had a problem, how could it have gone unnoticed?

Either his car wasn't regularly inspected.

Or someone tampered with the vehicle.

But that didn't make sense!

As a driver, if there was an issue with the fuel tank, it would have been noticed shortly after getting in the car. How could he have driven so far?

Ryan felt puzzled.

He had a vague sense that there was a hidden secret behind all this.

Looking around, Ryan couldn't understand why Maximilian had come here alone, without even a driver.

He took out his phone and opened the map navigation app.

After zooming in on the map, his gaze quickly locked onto a location.

Lindell Harbor?

Why did that name sound so familiar?

After racking his brain for a moment, his eyes suddenly lit up.

Right.

He remembered.

Lindell Harbor was where Kaleb's wife and son lived.

During Kaleb's previous disappearance, Patricia and Mr. Reed had visited Lindell Harbor. Patricia and Martin had mentioned the place, leaving an impression on him.

So, Maximilian went to Lindell Harbor?

What was he doing there?

Was it related to Margaret and her son?

Lost in thought, a flash of white light passed before Ryan's eyes.

Curious, he followed the path where the light had shone and discovered a black all-metal phone in the bushes.

The white light was sunlight reflecting off the phone.

Ryan picked up the phone, examining it front and back.

It seemed to be Maximilian's phone.

He had seen Maximilian answer a call when he visited Martin in the hospital.

This must be the phone that Maximilian accidentally dropped in the bushes during the accident.

Unfortunately, the phone was badly damaged and turned off.

Whether it was due to the fall or the battery running out, he couldn't tell.

Ryan put the phone in his pocket, searched the area for more clues, found none, and prepared to return. He planned to discuss with Martin before deciding on the next steps.

Upon returning to the hospital, Ryan immediately informed Martin of the information he had gathered.

"I was thinking about whether to repair the phone before giving it to you, but I was worried about potential issues, so I came back to find you first."

Martin repeatedly examined the black metal phone.

"Yes, this phone indeed belongs to Maximilian! It must have been dropped during the accident, and the screen was probably shattered at that time."

Ryan wondered, "So many people had inspected the scene before, how did no one find this phone? Could it have been deliberately left by the Hill family? Is there a conspiracy waiting for us?"

Martin shook his head. "Unlikely! The reason why the investigators didn't find it may be related to the timing! Different times mean different angles of sunlight! The time you went today happened to be when the sunlight shone on the phone."

Perhaps it was fate.

With so many people failing to notice it, Ryan happened to stumble upon it.

Martin handed him the phone. "This phone is custom-made and of good quality. I suspect it ran out of battery and shut down. It probably just needs a new screen! Find someone to replace it, and make sure to stay nearby, don't leave."

His serious expression made Ryan nervous as well.

Just as they were about to leave, Ryan's phone rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, he said to Martin, "It's probably the result of the car investigation."

With that, he answered the call and listened intently, his expression growing colder with each passing moment.

"What?" Billy's breath almost stopped.
