Chapter 765 Returning to Normal
On the plane, Patricia stared out the window at the clouds, her heart a whirlwind of emotions.
She'd finally left Country D behind.
But had Hunter's problems been sorted out too?
Joe probably wouldn't be a bother anymore.
Everything seemed settled at last.
Patricia glanced at Hunter, sitting quietly beside her, and sighed with relief, "Hunter, I'll take good care of you now. You need to get better and back to normal."
Hunter's vacant eyes slowly focused on her face.
He hesitated, then parted his lips and struggled to say, "Patricia."
Seeing him speak, Patricia's eyes welled up with joy. "Yes, it's me, Patricia. The one you've protected since we were kids! You finally spoke!"
She lowered her head, guilt washing over her, "I'm sorry. It's my fault you suffered so much. I promise it won't happen again."
Hunter fell silent, his eyes reddening as he looked at her.
But that was it.
He didn't speak again, just stared at her with a mix of excitement and sadness.
Patricia didn't dwell on it.
When they first met, Hunter was like this too. The only difference was he used to hold her hand and call her "Patricia."
Now, he just didn't call her that anymore.
"You must be exhausted," Patricia said, "Do you want to rest? I'll get a blanket for you."
Hunter pressed his lips together, leaned back in his seat, and closed his eyes.
Patricia called the flight attendant and got a blanket, gently draping it over him.
Across the aisle, Martin watched silently, feeling a pang of jealousy.
He knew he shouldn't be bothered by a madman, but seeing Patricia care for Hunter so tenderly made him uncomfortable. He couldn't say anything, so he just watched.
Martin reached out and held Patricia's hand across the aisle.
She turned to look at him.
They exchanged a smile.
No words were needed.
After a ten-hour flight, the plane finally landed at Sunset Bay Airport.
A day and night of snow had blanketed the city, making the dark night almost as bright as day.
The cold wind blew.
Patricia shivered, tightened her collar, and adjusted Hunter's clothes.
Martin pulled out his phone to call Alan, but before he could dial, a black SUV pulled up in front of them.
The door opened, and Alan stepped out, opening the back door for them and taking the suitcase from Martin.
With snow on the road, the car moved slowly.
Alan glanced at Hunter through the rearview mirror, "Is everything resolved with Joe?"
For the first time, Patricia felt a sense of relief.
She leaned back and stretched, "It's resolved. He won't bother Hunter anymore. We can finally have a peaceful Christmas."
Alan's tense expression softened.
If Joe's issues were resolved, Martin wouldn't have any more trouble.
Alan asked, "Do I need to arrange something with the mental hospital?"
Patricia shook her head, "No need. Let him stay at home for now. Alan, please book an appointment with the best psychiatrist. I want to get him checked out."
What if Hunter could actually be cured and recover?
She had so many questions about the past decade.
Why did Hunter have a twin brother?
Why did his twin impersonate him?
How was Hunter so ill and in a mental hospital?
There were too many mysteries she needed to unravel.
Martin nodded, "Alright, I'll make the appointment now."
He pulled out his phone and started making arrangements.
Patricia looked at the snow falling outside the window and sighed, "Christmas is almost here."
Another year had flown by.
Martin glanced out the window too, "Yeah, Christmas is almost here."
When they arrived at Sunshine Manor, the snow was still falling. Patricia settled Hunter in the guest room next door. By the time she finished washing up and got into bed, it was already five in the morning.
Worried about Hunter, Patricia had a restless night.
The next morning, she heard noises outside her door.
Soon, Charles's loud voice echoed through the house.
Charles shouted, "Randy, Fannie, hurry up, you're gonna be late for school! Maria and Declan, why are you up so early? Come on, I'll take you to breakfast. It's still snowing, and the snow outside is so thick. Randy, Fannie, wear more clothes so you don't catch a cold."
It was the familiar nagging and feeling.
Patricia lazily opened her eyes, looking at the white ceiling, and smiled contentedly.
A familiar hoarse voice sounded beside her, "Awake?"
Patricia turned to see Martin and smiled, "You're awake too!"
Martin gently kissed her forehead, "Want to sleep a little longer?"
Patricia shook her head, "No, I miss the kids!"
Martin smiled, "Then let's get up and have breakfast together."
Patricia nodded, stretched, and braved the cold to lift the blanket. Luckily, the house had heating, so it was warm enough.
After washing up, Patricia went to the next room to find Hunter.
But the room was empty. The bed was clean and tidy, cold, with no signs of being slept in.
A bad feeling surged in her heart.
Just as she was about to search for him, she noticed a note on the bedside table. With trembling hands, she picked it up and read, "Patricia, I have left! Please don't come looking for me! Thank you for taking care of me. There are many things I want to figure out! I will come back to find you once I have sorted out my thoughts! Take care!"
Patricia was stunned.
Had Hunter recovered? When did this happen?
Why hadn't she noticed?
She pulled out her phone and checked the house's surveillance.
Sure enough, shortly after she had settled Hunter in the guest room, the door quietly opened. Hunter stood at the doorway, staring at her room for a while, and then left.
In the video record, he left with nothing, just walked out alone.
Patricia's eyes reddened instantly.
Hunter had left!
She hadn't even had the chance to take care of him, to repay him, and he was gone!
He had lived in a mental hospital for so many years, with no friends, no money. Where could he go?
How would he survive?
