Chapter 1129 Completely Severing Ties
Austin paused, then slowly said, "I don't know."
Carter's voice was stern, "How can you not know?"
Austin's voice was rough as he replied, "I don't know when I fell for Violet. I just know that when I was a kid and saw her hanging onto Charles, always saying she'd marry him when she grew up, it tore me up inside.
I wanted her all to myself, to make her mine.
I hated seeing her with Charles.
Back then, I didn't get it. I thought it was just a brother being protective of his sister. Until I found out I wasn't your real son, and Violet wasn't my real sister. That's when I realized my feelings weren't brotherly.
I liked her, I loved her, I wanted her with me, I wanted to marry her, to make her mine alone.
I know my feelings are messed up. Whether she's my real sister or not, I shouldn't feel this way about her.
But I can't help it! Every time I see her with Charles, I lose it with jealousy.
Later, when Violet was kidnapped, and I found her unconscious, I couldn't hold back my dark desires. From that moment, I couldn't stop myself."
After he finished, he looked up sharply, gritting his teeth, "But I don't regret it! I don't regret falling in love with her, and I don't regret everything I've done. The only thing I regret is pushing you down the stairs in Country H.
You loved me so much, treated me like your own son, and yet I almost killed you."
Carter knew Austin had gone mad for Violet.
Even now, he showed no remorse. No matter what he said, it wouldn't change his mind. There was no point in arguing.
Carter asked painfully, "When did you find out you weren't my biological son?"
Austin bit his lip and said, "Eight years ago, in my second year of middle school."
Carter asked again, "How did you find out? Was it because your mother and I didn't treat you well enough? Or because you didn't look like us?"
Austin lowered his head and answered softly, "A woman came to find me. She said she was my biological mother."
Carter frowned, "Your biological mother? Who is she? Where is she now? If she's still alive, why did she leave you at the door of Rose Garden Manor?"
Austin just shook his head and said nothing.
He couldn't tell Carter that his biological mother left him at the Moore family's door to seek revenge when he grew up.
He couldn't let Carter think he stayed with the Moore family just for revenge.
And his biological mother had a deep-seated grudge against both the Moore family and the Langley family. He couldn't let them meet her.
Even though he didn't like his biological mother and often wished she were dead, she was still his mother. He couldn't just watch her die.
He had lied to Carter countless times. This time, he didn't want to lie again. He couldn't bear to let Carter go after his biological mother, so he chose to remain silent.
Carter saw that he wanted to protect his biological mother and stopped pressing him. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and hardened his heart. "Since you don't want to say, I won't force you. But I've always lived an honest life and never done anything shameful! I will never forgive you for all the bad things you've done!"
Austin had already anticipated this outcome.
From the moment Lassie said she was cutting ties with him in the warehouse that morning, he knew he had completely lost the parents who loved him.
But knowing was one thing, accepting was another.
Austin suddenly looked up, grabbing Carter's hand in desperation, "Dad, I know I've messed up big time. You can hit me, you can yell at me, you can never forgive me! But please, don't abandon me! My feelings for you and Mom are real. You, Mom, and Violet mean everything to me."
Carter shook his head with a bitter smile. "No, Austin, stop lying to yourself! In your heart, there's only Violet! If we were really as important as her, you wouldn't have hidden her away eight years ago!
When she disappeared, you watched your mother cry every day, you saw our pain and guilt, yet you still didn't bring her back.
If we were really as important as her, you wouldn't have pushed me down the stairs in Country H.
From the moment you hid Violet away eight years ago, our father-son relationship was over."
Austin still clung to his hand. "Dad, do you really not want me anymore? Do you really have no feelings for me? Can you really let me go?"
Carter couldn't bear it, he really couldn't.
But what could he do?
Things had gone too far, there was no turning back.
"Yes, I don't want you anymore! From now on, the Moore family no longer has an Austin! I can overlook what you've done to me, but I have no right to ask Charles to do the same.
You've hurt him so much; how he deals with you is up to him. It has nothing to do with me, and I won't interfere.
From now on, you're on your own!" With that, he shook off Austin's hand and walked towards the door.
No one knew how much strength it took for him to take each step.
His legs were shaking so badly, it felt like they could give out at any moment.
"Dad!" Austin knelt on the ground, watching Carter's retreating figure, shouting in despair.
His voice was trembling and hoarse, filled with hopelessness.
Carter acted as if he didn't hear, walking step by step like a zombie to the door.
As he was about to step out, he suddenly stopped, without turning around, he said softly, "Austin, your name was given by your mother. She hoped you would be smart, capable, strong, and decisive."
Tears streamed down Austin's face. His heart ached terribly.
For the first time, he began to regret his actions, repeatedly questioning himself, had he made a mistake?
His parents loved him so much, yet he hurt them again and again.
Carter continued, "But you don't deserve her expectation ."
With that, he stepped over the threshold and left without looking back.
The sound of the iron door closing echoed in the wine cellar.
Austin felt his body go limp, collapsing to the ground, the guilt and pain in his heart like a volcano, ready to erupt at any moment.
His throat tightened, his fingers clenched together, his eyes gradually dimmed, the light in them slowly extinguishing, as if he had completely lost hope.
He was completely finished.
Not only had he lost Violet forever, but he had also lost the parents who had always loved him.
Austin held his face in his hands, tears streaming through his fingers.
What had he done?
How had things come to this?
He just liked Violet, wanted to be with her, was that so wrong?
He just wanted to grasp that beam of light in the darkness; was that wrong?
Why was everyone blaming him?
Why did no one understand him? Support him?
