Chapter 1163 The Mysterious Phone Call

Hannah and Charles didn't rush back to Sunset Bay.

They returned to the house they used to live in.

It had been a long time since they were last there, but the house was regularly cleaned, so it was still neat despite being unoccupied for a while.

Charles told Hannah to sit in the living room and play on her phone for a bit while he went to the bedroom to get clean sheets and make the bed.

Hannah quietly wheeled herself to the bedroom door.

Watching Charles busy himself, her heart felt full and content.

Charles finished making the bed and was about to go find Hannah when he saw her sitting at the door, smiling at him.

He jumped in surprise, clutching his chest. "You scared me! You were so quiet."

Hannah opened her arms to him.

Charles understood immediately and walked over to lift her from the wheelchair.

Hannah wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, pouting. "I'm so sticky and uncomfortable from traveling all day! Carry me to the shower. I'm tired and want to rest."

Charles gave her a big kiss on the cheek and carried her to the bathroom with a smile.

While Hannah showered, he went back to the bedroom to get her a clean set of pajamas.

That night, moonlight streamed through the windows.

Hannah snuggled in Charles's arms, breathing in his familiar minty scent, feeling safe and secure.

"We won't be apart anymore, right?" She asked.

Charles rested his chin on her forehead and said softly, "No, we won't. Once you're better, we'll have our wedding. I don't want to wait any longer. I've waited long enough."

Hannah agreed readily. "Okay! Once my leg is better, we'll get married and never be apart again."

Charles felt warmth in his chest and kissed her forehead. "It's late. Let's get some sleep. We'll rest tomorrow and head back to Sunset Bay the day after."

Hannah nodded and closed her eyes, content.

She fell asleep quickly.

That night, she had a beautiful dream.

In her dream, she and Charles had a grand wedding.

They didn't invite many people, just the Koch family from Country Y, the Reed family from Country D, the Parker family from Country Z, and the Moore and Langley families, along with some close friends and relatives.

The wedding was held on a lawn.

She wore a white wedding dress, and Charles wore a custom-made Italian suit.

She walked down the aisle on her father, Carter's arm.

When her father placed her hand in Charles's, cheers erupted around them.

She and Charles looked at each other, and in that moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.

She smiled happily.

Charles was awakened by her giggles. He opened his eyes to see her smiling sweetly in her sleep, feeling an unprecedented sense of fulfillment.

"My love," he whispered, kissing her forehead before closing his eyes again.

The next day, they stayed home all day.

Charles was concerned about her health and didn't want to travel long distances, so they stayed in Country D for another day.

During that time, Wyatt visited.

Even when discussing business in the study, Charles kept Hannah nearby, not wanting to lose sight of her.

Charles knew he couldn't always be so lucky to find her if she went missing again.

He had been busy taking care of Hannah and hadn't been to the office in a while, leaving most of the work to Wyatt.

So, he worked long hours that day, from ten in the morning until eight at night.

Hannah didn't disturb them, wearing headphones and playing on her phone. When she got tired, she reclined her wheelchair and rested.

The days passed peacefully.

After Wyatt left, Charles bathed Hannah, put her to bed, and continued working in the bedroom until late at night.

Hannah didn't know how long he had worked.

She vaguely remembered waking up a few times during the night to see him still at his computer, the screen's light casting an unreal glow on his face.

The next morning, Hannah woke up to find Charles still asleep.

Knowing he had stayed up late, she didn't want to wake him and snuggled quietly in his arms, falling back asleep.

They didn't wake up until noon.

Charles seemed well-rested, stretching with a satisfied look on his face. "Are you hungry? I'll order some takeout, and after we eat, we'll head to the airport."

Hannah asked worriedly, "You haven't been to the office in a while. Should we stay here a few more days? Won't the company be in chaos without you?"

Charles knew she was concerned about him and ruffled her messy hair, feeling content. "Don't worry. Wyatt updates me on the company's status every day.

"Only the lower-level employees have to show up every day, working hard to climb the ladder. At my level, I don't need to be there daily.

"Being present shows my dedication and sets an example for my employees. If they see me working hard, they'll be motivated to do the same.

"But now, I have more important things to do, so I don't need to put on a show."

He hugged Hannah and took a deep breath. "My most important task now is to be with you. Nothing else matters. If they lack ambition, that's their problem. They'll be replaced by those who are willing to work hard."

Hannah laughed at his reasoning but didn't argue.

They showered, changed into clean clothes, and the takeout arrived just in time.

After eating, they headed to the airport to return to Sunset Bay.

Their main reason for coming was to reassure Oliver, who might worry and be distracted from his exams if he didn't see his parents for too long.

They also wanted to discuss his thoughts on studying abroad.

With their goals accomplished, there was no need to stay longer.

Lassie and Carter were waiting for them to return.

Wyatt, unable to leave IntelliMerge Technologies Company, sent a driver to take them to the airport.

As soon as the car stopped in the airport parking lot, Hannah's phone rang.

It was Oliver calling.

He should be in class at this time. Why was he calling?

Worried he might be in trouble, Hannah quickly answered, "Oliver, what's wrong?"

There was no response from Oliver, just a high-pitched, eerie laugh.

The laugh sounded just like a witch's cackle from a movie, sending chills down her spine.
