Chapter 851: Hannah knows about Charles's feelings for her

Hannah yanked the phone away from her ear, waiting for the yelling to stop before bringing it back. "Who the heck are you?" she asked, totally confused.

A strange woman's voice came through the line.

"Is this Charles Watson's phone?" she asked.

Hannah's frown got even deeper.

'Calling Charles by his first name? And it's a woman? Who is this chick? What's her deal with Charles? Is she his girlfriend?' Hannah thought.

The woman's voice was so smooth; she had to be drop-dead gorgeous.

Thinking about it made Hannah feel all kinds of weird.

"Yeah, it is! Are you his girlfriend?" she blurted out.

The woman on the other end burst into crazy laughter.

Hannah was totally puzzled.

"You don't need to know who I am. Who are you? Are you his girlfriend?" the woman shot back.

Hannah instinctively denied it, "No, we're just..."

The woman cut her off, "Are you gonna tell me you're just friends? I don't buy it!"

Hannah thought, 'If you don't believe it, why ask?'

The woman kept going, "We've known each other for over twenty years. I know him better than anyone! He never lets anyone touch his phone. Not even Wyatt."

Hannah was even more confused, 'She knows Wyatt too?'

Jealousy started creeping in.

The woman continued, "And you're holding his personal phone, not his work phone! Only the closest people know this number!"

Hannah felt a bit nervous, "Only the closest people know?"

The woman nodded, "Yeah, only the closest people! If you were just friends, how could he let you answer his phone? It's super private!"

Hannah's mind was spinning, and she missed most of what the woman said next.

Seeing her silence, the woman pressed on, "If you don't believe me, check his contacts! There are no more than twenty people in there. All family."

Hannah tried to calm down, "What about his Facebook?"

The woman replied, "Facebook? You mean his personal or work Facebook? His work one is Charles Watson, and his personal one is J."

Hannah was completely thrown off.

'Is the Facebook I added really J?' she wondered.

Seeing her silence again, the woman couldn't help but push, "Say something! Are you Charles's girlfriend? When did you two start dating? When's the wedding? Have you set a date? Where's it gonna be?"

Hannah quickly explained, "I'm not Mr. Watson's girlfriend; I'm just his assistant! Mr. Watson is sick and in the hospital waiting for blood test results! He's sleeping right now, and I answered the phone to avoid waking him! Please don't get the wrong idea, I have no relationship with him other than being his subordinate."

Hannah's thoughts were all over the place, and she spoke quickly, like she was scared of uncovering some secret.

The woman was clearly stunned, "Did you say he's sick?"

Hannah nodded, "Yeah, he's sick! His fever hit 102 degrees! He took some meds and is sleeping now."

Hannah thought the woman would be worried about Charles being sick.

But instead, the woman started laughing like a maniac again.

The woman on the other end was like, "He's sick? No way! In over twenty years, this is a first! You have no idea, he's always been super healthy. I can't believe he got sick. Snap a pic of him now so I can laugh at him next time we meet."

Hannah felt a surge of anger at her indifference.

"He's so sick, and you're still gloating!" she snapped, then hung up without waiting for a response.

But as soon as she hung up, the woman called again.

Hannah didn't hesitate to hang up.

It didn't seem urgent, so no need to answer.

After she refused to pick up, the woman didn't call back.

But Hannah's mind was still a mess from the conversation, unable to calm down.

For some reason, she used Charles's face for facial recognition, unlocked the phone, and opened the contacts.

Elderly man.

Queen.

Fannie.

Maria.

Declan Langley.

Randy Langley.

Stella Reed.

Grandpa.

Uncle Riley, Uncle Sebastian, Uncle Jeremy.

As she scrolled down, they were all family members.

But near the bottom, she saw her own name.

Hannah White.

Her name stood out among the family members, easy to spot.

Exiting the contacts, Hannah opened his Facebook.

Sure enough.

The people in there were almost the same as those in the contacts.

Not one more. Not one less. And she was among them.

Looking at her name, Hannah felt all kinds of emotions, like something was about to surface but was held back for various reasons.

Hannah was lost in thought when Charles, resting on her shoulder, suddenly moved slightly.

She was startled, immediately exited the screen, and turned off the phone.

But Charles just adjusted to a more comfortable position and kept sleeping.

Hannah let out a heavy sigh of relief.

Ever since answering that call, Hannah was unsettled, sitting there in a daze.

It wasn't until the blood test results came out that she collected herself, took the results, and brought Charles to see the doctor.

The final result was a cold.

After taking fever-reducing medicine, his high fever turned into a low fever, and he didn't need an IV drip. He could go home after getting some oral meds.

After the fever subsided, Charles felt much better, not as uncomfortable as before.

"I can go back by myself! You should return to the office!" Charles said.

Hannah, worried, shook her head, "No way, you can't drive like this! I'll take you home! Then I'll make you something to eat! The doc said you need a light diet."

Charles first wanted to refuse, but for some reason, he opened his mouth and then closed it again.

He silently agreed to her request.

Hannah didn't know Charles's home address, so Charles took out his phone, opened the navigation, and let her follow it.

Looking at the phone in front of her, Hannah couldn't help but think of her name again. She opened her mouth, wanting to clarify. Maybe there was some misunderstanding.

Maybe it was because she was Stella's friend that she appeared in his personal phone.

But when the words reached her mouth, she didn't ask.

If it turned out she was overthinking, it would be too embarrassing.

She couldn't do such a thing. Besides, she wasn't pretty, nor was she outstanding. She didn't think a guy like Charles, who was wealthy, good-looking, and capable, would like her.

Yeah!

She was overthinking.

She couldn't let her imagination run wild.

She would pretend this never happened.

She and Charles would continue to interact as they always had.
