Chapter 1168 Release Austin from the Cell
Austin had never heard any of this before.
After listening to Lassie, he was completely stunned, standing there with reddened eyes and a face full of disbelief. "No way, how could this be? Lisa would never treat Violet like that, would she?"
Lassie fought back tears, choking up as she said, "Yeah, how could she treat Violet like that? Violet is so obedient and kind, how could she be so cruel to her?"
Austin grabbed Lassie's arm again, desperately trying to convince himself, "You must be lying to me, right? You want me to regret it, so you're saying these things to deceive me, right?"
He looked at Lassie with hopeful eyes.
As if only by believing this could he lessen the guilt and remorse in his heart.
Lassie sneered, "You already believe it, don't you? Even if I lied and said none of this was true, would you believe me? You know Lisa's character better than I do, don't you?"
Austin felt all his strength drain away, stumbling back a few steps before tripping over the bed and falling onto it.
He kept shaking his head.
He couldn't believe it was true.
But despite his constant denial, a voice in his mind kept screaming.
It was true!
He knew Lisa's character all too well.
At first, because everything happened so suddenly, he found Lisa to be the only suitable person and hastily entrusted Violet to her.
He never expected Lisa to treat Violet like her own child, but he thought that, at least for the money, she wouldn't mistreat Violet.
Every so often, he would call to check on Violet, and the responses were always that Violet was doing well, growing taller, and improving in her studies.
He thought everything was fine.
Even later, when he openly pursued Violet in Country D and fully understood Lisa's greed, he never imagined she would abuse Violet.
If he had known earlier, he would have taken Violet away, even at the risk of being discovered, and never let her suffer there.
His most beloved woman had endured seven years of suffering because of his selfishness.
Seeing the regret and guilt on his face, Lassie secretly breathed a sigh of relief, feeling that her efforts had not been in vain.
"In the White family, only Oliver treated Violet well! He was the only one who gave her warmth." Lassie added.
Austin still looked incredulous.
Images of Lisa hitting Violet with a feather duster and pinching her flashed through his mind, making his blood boil with the urge to kill her.
Lassie's tone suddenly softened, losing its previous sharpness. "Tell me, do you have an accomplice?"
Austin looked at her in surprise, not understanding what she meant.
Lassie pleaded earnestly, "Someone captured Oliver and forced Violet to release you and take you away from Sunset Bay! Austin, you've already made mistake;, you can't keep making them! Tell me, who is your accomplice? Where are they now? You've made Violet suffer for seven years, you can't let her suffer anymore."
Without much hesitation, a face appeared in Austin's mind.
Was it her?
She knew he had been discovered by Charles, so she came to save him.
He hadn't treated her well, so why would she save him?
Seeing him silent, Lassie anxiously grabbed his shoulders and shook him, "Tell me, who is it?
Since she came to save you, you must know her! You can't not know who she is!
She's captured Oliver to threaten Violet, and Violet is very worried about Oliver. Tell me, who is it?
"If you tell me, once we successfully rescue Oliver, I'll let you go! I'll let you leave Sunset Bay and give you enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life."
Even though Austin had done so many bad things, she still couldn't bear to watch him die. After all, she had raised him for twenty years, and those twenty years of mother-son bond were real.
She hoped he could turn over a new leaf and start anew. She also hoped he would wake up and stop longing for a love that wasn't his.
Austin felt a mix of emotions. He pressed his thin lips together, hesitating for a moment before choosing to lie, expressionless, "I don't know!"
Lassie's heart sank, filled with disappointment. "You don't know? How could you not know? Austin, why haven't you repented even now? Why do you keep breaking my heart?"
Austin remained silent, the small spark of hope in his heart reigniting. Maybe, this time, he could really take Violet away and never come back.
This was the last chance; if he didn't seize it, there would be no more opportunities.
Even though his mother's words made him feel terrible, he still gritted his teeth and refused to soften, stubbornly saying, "I really don't know who you're talking about! You should know, my life is simple. Apart from Tina, I have no friends! The classmates in my dorm are just ordinary acquaintances! I don't know who would take such a big risk to save me."
Lassie stared at his face, hoping to find some clue. But she was disappointed.
Austin's expression was calm, as if this matter really had nothing to do with him. Lassie refused to give up, making one last desperate attempt. "Austin, remember, once you leave here today, our mother-son relationship will be completely over! From now on, I won't recognize you as my son."
This was the final threat. She hoped it could awaken Austin's remaining conscience, make him repent, and reveal the person who kidnapped Oliver. Even though she knew it might not work, how would she know if she didn't try?
Even though she had heard it once before in the warehouse, hearing it again made Austin's heart ache uncontrollably.
But he remained resolute. He wanted Violet; it was something he had decided long ago.
As long as he could be with Violet, he would endure any consequences, even if it meant being abandoned by everyone and facing destruction.
His silence told Lassie his choice, and her heart shattered into pieces. "Hope you don't regret your choice today."
With that, Lassie turned and walked out of the cell.
As she turned, tears slipped from the corners of her eyes, a tribute to the twenty years of mother-son bond with Austin. From now on, she truly no longer had this son.
After Lassie left the cell, she saw Austin still sitting on the bed, unmoving.
She quietly wiped away her tears and turned to him, asking sternly, "Why aren't you coming out? Your accomplice succeeded, we've compromised, and agreed to let you go!"
Austin seemed momentarily dazed, then quickly regained his composure, replying firmly, "I want to take Tina with me."
Tina was captured by Charles because of him. She had done so much for him, he couldn't continue to drag her down. Since he was leaving, they would leave together.
Once they left Sunset Bay, they would go their separate ways and never see each other again.
