Chapter 878 Hannah, I like you
Hannah leaned against the balcony railing for so long her legs went numb, but she still didn't wanna move.
The house felt like a prison.
She couldn't breathe in there.
Only outside could she catch her breath.
Stella stood in the dark room, feeling kinda bad for Hannah, seeing her just standing there, lost in thought. She wanted to pull her back inside.
Just as she took a step, the doorbell rang.
Hannah was so deep in thought she didn't even hear it.
Stella sighed and went to open the door.
She was kinda shocked to see Charles standing there.
"Charles, what are you doing here?" she asked.
Charles stood at the door, his eyes scanning past Stella, trying to see inside.
Stella, being sharp, got what he was after. She leaned against the door frame, crossed her arms, and smirked, "Here to see Hannah, huh?"
The room was too dark, and the hallway light made it hard for Charles to see inside.
"Where's Hannah?" he asked.
Stella pouted, "Why are you looking for Hannah?"
"I..." Charles started.
But Stella cut him off, "You were so cold today. I tried to help you out, lighten the mood! And you were still so cold!"
"I..." Charles tried again.
Stella interrupted, "You have no idea how much Hannah missed you while you were gone. She was so happy to hear you were back today. She hasn't been this happy in over a month. And what did you do? You broke her heart! You clearly like her, and I told you she broke up with Austin. Why are you treating her like this? You left for Sunset Bay without any reason, stayed there for over a month, and then came back and treated her so coldly! Even though I'm your cousin, this time you've gone too far. I won't help you anymore!"
Charles wasn't mad at all. Instead, he reached out and ruffled her hair, "I came as soon as I saw your message!"
Stella was stunned, "What message? I didn't send you any message. You didn't reply to any of my previous messages, so why would I send you another one?"
Charles smiled, "My phone's been off for over a month, only my work phone was on. So, I didn't see your messages."
Stella's eyes widened, "You haven't turned on your phone for over a month?"
Charles nodded, "Yeah! My phone ran out of battery. I just charged it when I got home and saw your message."
Stella's anger and frustration started to fade, "So that's what happened! I thought you were ignoring me!"
Charles said helplessly, "Can I see Hannah now?"
Stella pouted, "But why did you suddenly go back to Sunset Bay? Why didn't you give any notice? And why did you turn off your personal phone? What happened during those days?"
She had a ton of questions.
But Charles was only thinking about Hannah and didn't wanna explain.
"Can you let me see Hannah first? I'll answer your questions later," he said urgently.
Stella suddenly got what was really important.
"She's on the balcony! You can find her there! She's been standing there alone since she got back, probably 'cause you upset her!" Stella said.
Charles looked towards the balcony.
It was kinda far from the door, and the room was dark, so he could only make out a blurry figure, almost blending into the shadows.
Seeing Hannah's silhouette, Charles's breath hitched, and his heart started pounding.
He'd been thinking a lot on the way over, planning how to talk to her, how to confess, how to spill his guts.
But now that he actually saw her, he was at a loss for words, so nervous his breathing got all uneven.
Stella stepped aside, "Charles, Hannah broke up with Austin because of you. She really likes you! I can tell you like her too. If you do, cherish her. Don't mess this up."
"I know!" Charles said, walking towards the balcony like he knew the place by heart.
Stella stood at the door, knowing she should leave.
But she was so curious! She really wanted to see how they'd clear things up and get together!
Still, she was worried her being there would make Charles uncomfortable. After some thought, she left and quietly closed the door behind her.
Hannah was facing outside, her back to the door.
She was so lost in thought she didn't hear the sliding glass door open. It wasn't until the footsteps got closer and stopped behind her that she snapped out of it, saying listlessly, "Stella, I'm fine. I just wanna be alone for a bit."
Charles stood just a step behind her.
Seeing Hannah so close, his chest heaved, and he clenched his fists nervously, his palms sweating.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself, and slowly said, "Hannah!"
As soon as he spoke, he realized his voice was hoarse, like he'd been wandering through a desert for days.
Hearing his voice, Hannah was stunned, thinking she misheard. It took her a moment to react, and she slowly turned around, like a scene in slow motion.
The silvery moonlight wrapped around him, giving him a halo, like an angel descended to earth, so cold and distant.
Hannah opened her mouth, wanting to speak, but it felt like her throat was stuffed with cotton, no words coming out.
She had so much she wanted to say, but she couldn't get it out.
Her chest ached and swelled, the missing him for all these days turning into an indescribable grievance. Her eyes reddened, tears welling up, her body trembling slightly.
Charles looked down at Hannah's familiar face.
He'd wanted to do this at Maximilian's house earlier, but held back because of their different statuses.
Now he could finally look at her without holding back.
In just over a month, Hannah had lost a lot of weight, her features becoming more defined.
He had so much to say to her, but when he opened his mouth, all he managed was, "Hannah, I like you!"
