Chapter 1029 Carter Find Hannah

Carter saw the taxi Austin was in stopped at the entrance of a neighborhood.

He immediately got out of his car and followed Austin into the neighborhood, arriving at the entrance of a building. He watched as Austin entered Unit 1 and got into the elevator.

Carter didn't follow him in right away but stood by the elevator, watching the floor numbers on the display.

The elevator finally stopped on the thirteenth floor.

That meant Austin went to the thirteenth floor.

Carter took another elevator and pressed the button for the thirteenth floor.

He remembered clearly that Austin was staying in the dorms with his professor and classmates! The university arranged their dorms in a dedicated dormitory building on campus.

Why would Austin come here alone?

And why didn't he tell him, keeping it a secret?

This building had two elevators and four apartments.

Carter looked around but couldn't determine which apartment Austin had entered.

Suddenly, he found the situation a bit amusing.

Austin was an adult and was typically cautious in his actions. What was he doing, sneaking around like this? If Austin found out, he would definitely be upset.

Just as he was about to leave quietly, he heard a door open nearby.

For reasons he couldn't quite explain, but even though he had every right to be there, he ended up hiding in the stairwell.

He chuckled at himself and was about to step out and greet Austin when he saw Austin holding Hannah's hand as they walked out.

He was instantly stunned, feeling as if his feet were glued to the floor, unable to move an inch.

Austin held Hannah's hand as they waited for the elevator.

Austin gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and asked softly, "How are you feeling? Are you still uncomfortable anywhere?"

Hannah's eyes were somewhat vacant and confused, with a childlike innocence.

"I'm okay! I just feel like I've forgotten something."

Austin gently rubbed her head. "You've been unwell for a while, so you might feel a bit out of it. Let's go for a walk and get some fresh air; it might help you feel better."

Hannah nodded obediently.

At that moment, the elevator opened in front of them.

Austin held Hannah's hand and walked into the elevator.

Carter watched them disappear from view, his legs weak as he collapsed onto the stairwell step behind him. The color drained from his handsome face, and his mind buzzed with a thousand chaotic thoughts.

What was going on?

Why was Hannah with Austin?

And why were they so close?

Carter couldn't understand, no matter how hard he tried.

He knew that before Hannah was with Charles, she almost married Austin. But she later said that she was with Austin out of gratitude, mistaking it for love.

If that was the case, why was she with Austin now?

And her eyes seemed different somehow, but Carter couldn't quite put his finger on what exactly was different.

Carter's mind was a whirlwind of confusion.

He didn't leave or rush over to question Austin; he just sat dumbly in the stairwell.

He didn't know how long he sat there until he heard Austin and Hannah talking, snapping him back to reality.

Austin held Hannah's hand as they walked out of the elevator.

"How do you feel? Tired?"

Hannah smiled and shook her head. "Not tired! After the walk, I actually feel much better!"

Austin smiled, unlocked the door with his fingerprint, and went inside with Hannah.

Carter, gathering his remaining strength, stood up with the help of the wall, and walked stiffly to the door of the apartment where Austin and Hannah were staying. He raised his hand to knock but stopped at the last moment.

He tried several times but never knocked.

After an internal struggle, he finally gave up and took the elevator down.

Maybe there was some misunderstanding.

Maybe Austin could explain.

If he barged in now, things would get out of hand.

He should give Austin a chance to explain in private.

After getting downstairs, Carter didn't leave immediately but waited on the path Austin would have to take to leave.

Austin didn't stay upstairs for long.

Carter watched as Austin walked past him, seemingly not noticing him at all.

"Austin," Carter called out.

Austin's steps halted, and he turned around slowly, as if in slow motion from a movie. When he saw Carter, a look of panic flashed across his eyes.

"Dad! What are you doing here? How did you find this place?"

Carter walked towards him step by step.

In that short time, countless thoughts flashed through Austin's mind.

Why was Dad here?

Did he go upstairs?

Did he see Hannah?

Wasn't he supposed to be in Country D?

Austin, who usually had little expression, showed rare signs of unease and tension.

Carter didn't waste any words. "We need to talk," he said firmly.

With people coming and going, he didn't want to create a scene.

Austin's heart skipped a beat, sensing trouble.

Carter had never spoken to him with such a serious expression and tone.

He must have found out.

Austin never expected that his four-month-old secret would be discovered by his father just like that.

"Okay!"

Austin took Carter to a newly built bridge in Sunset Valley.

He wasn't sure why he chose this spot. They could have gone to a restaurant and sat down to talk.

But for some reason, he brought Carter here.

"Have you eaten? Let's find a restaurant. I'll book a private room, and we can talk over dinner," Austin suggested.

Carter didn't think much of it and actually felt that this place, without people around, was better for talking than a noisy restaurant.

"No need! I don't have an appetite."

Seeing him refuse, Austin didn't press the matter further.

Carter said, "I saw Hannah just now."

Carter had expected to feel a surge of anger.

But when he spoke, he was surprised by how calm he felt.

Austin's handsome face turned pale instantly.

So, Carter had indeed seen Hannah.

Carter had come specifically to talk to him about this.

"You saw wrong! Her name is not Hannah; it's Evelyn. She's my girlfriend here."

Carter angrily said, "Are you still trying to lie to me? I may not have interacted with Hannah much, but I remember her face! That was Hannah."

Austin tried to explain, "It's not Hannah; she just looks exactly like her! Charles took Hannah away from me, and I lost her completely. So when I met Evelyn, I immediately felt a connection! I can't be with Hannah, but can't I be with someone who looks exactly like her?"

Carter wasn't convinced.

"Fine! Looks can be the same, but what about the voice? The height? Even twins aren't completely identical, right?"
