Chapter 398 Grace's Scheme against Patricia

The next day.

Patricia remained unconscious fromregained consciousness after experiencing excessive blood loss untilat midday when she finally came. Upon awakening, her gaze was immediately drawn to. As her eyes fluttered open, the first thing she saw was the crystal chandelier hanging above.

Sunlight draped over the her. The chandelier, its prisms was bathed in sunlight, casting beautiful rainbow-like rays of light, reminiscent of a spectrum of colors in a rainbow.

Patricia's head spun, and she blacked out.

She
Patricia lifted aher hand to massage her temples, but as her head spun, wincing at the sharp pain onin the back of her hand made her wince sharply.

"Hiss..."

Just in,
Jeremy hurried over and putquickly placed the bowl he was carrying down on the nightstand, looking concerned. .

"Don't move," he said. "TheYour arm stitches on your arm are still fresh. What do you need? Just tell me."

Patricia's eyes
Patricia’s gaze met his, and; memories from the previous night before flooded backrushed in.

“Where am I? How did I getend up here?" Her?” she asked, her voice was raspy.

Like, like a traveler who'd trekked through theweary desert for days on endtraveler.

"You passed out from the pain ofafter getting stitched up last night," Jeremy explained. "It was late, and I wasn't surewas unsure where else to take you, so I brought you here to my room. Don't worry,; I crashed on the couch. AndAs for the clothes; you were unconscious, so, I had thea maid find something for you to change intothem."

As Patricia, trying struggled to sit up with, using her uninjured arm, she felt dizzylightheaded from blood loss and lack of food. As she pushed herself up a bit, she starvation. She collapsed backagain.

Jeremy was quick to assist her, propping pillows behind her for support. "You need to rest up; you're pretty weak right now. Luckily, you didn't develop a fever last night, or my parents would have freaked out at the knowledge of you, and I'd be dead meat."

Looking down, Patricia said with genuine remorse, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble!"."

"It's no trouble at all!. What are friends for if not to help each other out?" Jeremy grabbed the bowl from the nightstand and handed it to her. "I had the maid whip up some chicken soup for you,. iIt's a great tonic and should help with your recovery. Drink up!"."

A warmth filled
Patricia felt warm at his thoughtful act.

Suddenly, she saw, seeing Jeremy in a new light—not such a bad guy, just straightforward and perhaps a bit too trusting.

"Thank you!"," she said.

After expressing her thanks,
Patricia took the chicken soup from him and, possibly from sheer hunger, she . She slurped it down the chicken soup until the bowl was clean—not even a shred of chicken was left.

Jeremy tookplaced the empty bowl and placed it back on the nightstand before gently examining her injured arm.

"Let me see how the wound is doing."," he said.

She didn't pull away.

Just as he rolled up her sleeve, the door wassomeone kicked open the door with a bang.

A crowd poured in, led by Shane.

Leaning, who leaned on a cane, he wasand flanked by Grace and Ariel on either side.

Trailing behind were . Jeremy's birth parents, Kevin Koch and Brooke.

, trailed behind. Following them waswere Riley, Jeremy's friend Martin, and Ariel's husband, Miles.

Everyone who should be there, was there.

The room was packed—quite the turnout.

Patricia's expression darkened with a sense of foreboding, her gaze settling on Martin.

Martin stared back, his handsome face a mask of icy detachment, his deep-set eyes glinting with an unreadable chill that betrayed no emotion.

Jeremy stood, dumbstruck by the spectacle, his eyes bulging.

"You... you guys... how come...?" He he stammered, pointing at them, struggling to cobble togetherconstruct a full sentence.

"You... you guys... how come...?"

Shane's face was livid with anger. "Tell me, what the hell is going on?"

"It's no big deal," Jeremy replied casually. "Last. "She had a close call with a hitman last night, she almost got killed by a hitman.losing her life. I didn't think the hotel was safe, so I brought her here. It was too late;, and I didn't want to wake you guys up. Plus, she passed out while getting stitched up, so I had to put her in my room for the time being."

Brooke, livid, stomped over and gave Jeremy a swat on the back of thesmacked Jeremy's head, scolding him,. "You little brat, hiding a woman in the house,. I didn't believe it when someone told me. But here we are, and it's her..."

Jeremy frowned. "What about her? Sure, I'm not thick as thieves with HunterMichael, but with both of them getting into trouble on their way to Grace's engagement dinner, it's only right for me to help out, isn't it?"

He was clueless about the minor drama that had unfolded at the engagement party.

"You... you..." Brooke faltered, at a loss for words, her frustration prompting her to smack him on the back of the head again. "You're trying to be the death of me."

"You're really trying to be the death of me!"

Rubbing the sore spot where his mother had hit him, Jeremy retorted, "Mom, I'm twenty-seven years old,. tThis isn't cool anymore."

Brooke was so flustered that she almost laughed.

She stood there, breathless, unable to vent her frustration or swallow it down.

"By your age, some are already parents, seasoned in the world's ways of the world. And you—you just can't bear to give me peace of mind, can you?"

"Mom..."

Jeremy's face flushed with embarrassment, the sting of being reprimanded in front of Patricia. He caught her eye surreptitiously and quickly interjected to cut Brooke off.

Grace feigned surprise, "Deborah. "Laura, why are you dressed in our housekeeper's clothes? Jeremy mentioned you fainted from the pain ofpassed out after getting stitches last night;, so who helped you change?"

With a single sentence, all eyes in the room shifted to Patricia.

Martin's gaze narrowed dangerously, an endless chill emanating from the depths of his obscured eyes, piercing Patricia with a cold that seemed to whisk her straight to the Antarctic.

The temperature around them seemed to plummet in response.

Realizing the confusion, Jeremy hurried to clarify, "It wasn't me who switched them. I asked Louise to do it. If you don't believe me, go ask her."

Louise, who had been lingering at the back of the crowd, was called out and hastily stepped forward, frantically waving and waved her hands,. "It wasn't me, it wasn't me.. Last night, the young master only asked me for a set of clothes from me. He didn't ask me to change Miss Patricia's clothes. I know nothing."

Jeremy's face turned icy in an instant.

His instantly, and his teeth gritted with a grinding sound,. "Louise, why lie? Why deceive everyone? You..."are you lying?"

As he spoke, he swung his fist swung around, aiming to hittowards Louise.

, but Patricia immediately grabbed his hand.

Worried she'd get the wrong idea, Jeremy explained quickly,. "It really was her who changed your clothes,. I'm not the kind of person who takes advantage of others in their time of need."

Patricia nodded,
"I believe you!"," Patricia said.

At hearing her trust,
Jeremy let out a breathsigh of relief, glaring hard at Louise, "Dare to. "How dare you frame me? Just wait and see how I'll deal withwatch as I handle you.".

Louise, terrified, hung her head low, her body shaking like a leaf.

Grace quickly pulled her behind and shot him a warning glare at . "Jeremy, "Jeremy..."

Jeremy
He clamped his mouth shut, not daring to make another peep.

Shane watched Patricia with penetrating eyes that missed nothing.

Instead of the expected rage, there was an uncharacteristic calm.

"Everyone out,. I have something to discuss with Deborah!"Laura."

Nobody dared to disobey, and; all turned to leave the room.

As sheGrace turned, a venomous look quickly flickered in Grace'sher eyes.

Thinking she could
'Do you think you can penetrate the Koch family for Martin?

No Not a chance.'

The Koch family was her turfbelonged to Grace, and eliminatinggetting rid of Patricia would be as easyeffortless as crushing an ant.

squashing a tiny insect. She'd see to that herself.
