Chapter 943 Anonymous Video
After Hannah bailed from the hotel, she didn't head back to her dorm right away. Nah, she made a beeline for the biggest mall in town. Once she hopped out of the car, she just started wandering around, no clue where she was going.
She was hoping the mall's chaos would drown out her thoughts.
She was sick of thinking about Charles and Violet.
Thinking about Charles was like getting stabbed in the heart, making it hard to breathe.
Most people go on shopping sprees when they're down, but with her broke self, all she could do was walk around aimlessly.
She just kept walking, no real destination in mind.
There was a lot she couldn't wrap her head around, but the truth was staring her in the face. Wasn't it obvious? Not getting it was just her not wanting to believe it.
Stella was huffing and puffing, trying to catch up to her.
When Hannah almost ran into someone, Stella dashed over and yanked her aside.
Stella, all freaked out, said, "Hannah, what the heck are you doing? Do you know how dangerous this is? There are all sorts of sketchy people here, and you could get into some serious trouble."
What if she ran into some jerk?
Hannah, being all fragile, wouldn't stand a chance.
Stella was both pissed and worried, mad that Hannah was putting herself through this and annoyed that Charles picked Violet and didn't chase after Hannah.
When she saw Stella, Hannah looked behind her, still clinging to a tiny bit of hope. But when she saw Charles wasn't there, she was crushed.
"Did he pick Violet?" Then she let out a bitter laugh. "Of course, Violet's back. I'm just the stand-in, so I should step aside now! As a stand-in, what do I have to be upset about? I should be happy I look like Violet. If I didn't, Charles wouldn't have even glanced at me."
Seeing her like this, Stella wanted to slap herself. She cried out of sheer heartbreak and hugged Hannah tight. "Hannah, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I didn't like Austin at first and thought he wasn't good enough for you, so I tried to find you a better guy. I thought Charles was the best guy ever. He's hot, successful, and loyal. After Violet disappeared, he looked for her for seven years. I thought if you two got together, you'd be the happiest woman alive. I saw you looked like Violet and thought Charles would totally fall for you, so I introduced you to him. It was my dumb idea. I never thought Violet would show up again. After seven years with no word, I thought she was gone for good. I'm sorry. It's all on me! If I had known, I wouldn't have set you two up."
Stella was bawling her eyes out. Tears just wouldn't stop.
But Hannah couldn't cry at all.
Instead, she wiped Stella's tears away, looking weirdly calm.
Hannah said, "Why are you crying? It's just a breakup! It's not like I haven't been through this before. So what if I break up? I can still find another boyfriend without Charles."
If she had cried, Stella might not have been so freaked out.
But she was too calm, like the calm before a storm.
Stella cupped Hannah's face, sobbing, "Hannah, why aren't you crying? You can cry. Let it out. Don't bottle it up, or you'll get sick."
Hannah not only didn't cry, but she also forced a smile. "Cry? What's there to cry about? Only sad people cry, and I'm not sad at all."
Stella was so scared she stopped crying. She looked at Hannah with teary eyes, afraid she might lose her mind from the shock.
Hannah grabbed Stella's hand and led her towards the back of the mall.
Hannah said, "Come on, let's grab something to eat. My treat. I can't afford the fancy stuff, but I can still get us some desserts! We haven't had any in a while, and I kinda miss it!"
Stella was dumbfounded, not knowing how to react, letting Hannah pull her along.
The usually crowded street was pretty empty at this time.
The two of them went to their usual dessert shop. Hannah ordered two desserts, one for Stella and one for herself. She took a bite, her mouth full of cream, and couldn't help but close her eyes, savoring the taste. "So good."
Stella took a bite but couldn't taste anything.
She had no appetite, but the heartbroken Hannah was eating like nothing happened, as if the breakup hadn't affected her at all.
Seeing her worried expression, Hannah comforted her, "Don't be like that! It's just a breakup, not the end of the world. I believe I can find a better boyfriend!"
Stella knew Hannah was lying to both of them. But she couldn't bear to call her out.
'How did things turn out this way? Hannah and Charles had such a good thing going, always together. Even Randy said he had never seen Charles like this. How long were they happy? But now it ends like this,' Stella thought.
Hannah dragged Stella to eat a lot, as if stuffing herself would drown the sadness.
After eating, it gradually got dark.
Hannah didn't seem to have any intention of going back. She was about to pull Stella into another store when her phone in her pocket suddenly rang.
Her heart fluttered with it.
Her phone had been silent all day, even when she ran out of the hotel.
Her heart seemed as dead as the phone.
When the phone rang, her heart seemed to beat again, like someone walking in the dark finally seeing a glimmer of light.
She took out her phone with trembling hands.
From the moment she took out her phone to the moment she lit up the screen, it felt like the longest few seconds of her life. But when she saw it was an anonymous message, the light disappeared, and she fell back into endless darkness.
When Hannah took out her phone, Stella also thought it was Charles and immediately leaned over.
Stella asked, "Is it a message from Charles?"
Hannah forced a stiff smile and said lightly, "No! It's probably spam."
As she spoke, she opened the message.
She was about to delete and block it, but when she heard the voice from the message, her hand froze.
