Chapter 970 Hannah Feels Shirley is Like Family

Shirley's eyes lit up like fireworks. Seizing the moment while Jennifer was distracted, she wriggled free, dashed over to Hannah, grabbed her hand, and beamed up at her.

"What are you doing here? Do you know I've been looking for you everywhere?" Shirley asked, her voice full of excitement.

Maybe it was because Hannah looked so much like Violet. Even though it was their first time meeting, Shirley felt an odd sense of familiarity.

It was like they had known each other forever.

But it was weird because they were clearly meeting for the first time.

Shirley just had this gut feeling that Hannah was a good person.

Hannah was picking out a drink when she suddenly felt a tiny hand grab hers. She looked down and saw a little girl.

Shirley was adorable, with big, round eyes like a doll.

Even though it was their first meeting, Hannah felt an unexpected closeness to Shirley, something she didn't even feel with her own younger brother, Oliver.

Hannah couldn't help but ruffle Shirley's hair and asked with a smile, "Did you mistake me for someone else?"

Shirley kept winking at her and whispered, "She's a human trafficker trying to kidnap me. I can't find my family. Please help me. My parents will definitely reward you big time."

Hearing this, Hannah followed her gaze and looked behind her.

She saw Jennifer, wearing a black hat, walking over with a big smile.

Maybe because she was a bit plump, her smile looked really kind and harmless.

Jennifer took Shirley's hand and apologized, "Sorry, she mistook you for someone else!"

Saying this, she tried to pull Shirley away.

Shirley shook off her hand and clung tightly to Hannah's hand.

"I didn't mistake her for someone else. This is my sister! I found my family, so I don't need you to take me to the police station anymore! Thanks for helping me find my family," Shirley said firmly.

Jennifer had met Violet before. Although Hannah looked a lot like Violet, their eyes and height were different.

She was sure Shirley had mistaken her for someone else.

"You really did mistake her for someone else. Look closely; she just looks like your sister. They're not the same person. Come on, I'll take you to find your parents. Didn't your parents say they wanted me to take you to them?" Jennifer insisted.

Even though Shirley was only five, she was more cautious than most adults.

She clung tightly to Hannah's hand and said seriously, "You've never met my sister, so how do you know she's not my sister? I already said I found my sister, so I don't need you to take me to the police station. Thanks for helping me find my sister. You can go now."

Seeing her plan failing, Jennifer's face darkened immediately.

After listening to their conversation, Hannah pieced it together.

Shirley had gotten separated from her parents and then met Jennifer. Jennifer said she would help Shirley find her parents. Shirley initially agreed but later realized something was off with Jennifer and sought Hannah's help.

Hannah looked suspiciously at Shirley and Jennifer, carefully weighing their words.

Scams these days were getting more and more sophisticated.

She had read a news story about a middle school student who encountered a pregnant woman in pain on her way home from school. The student kindly offered to take the woman home, only to be attacked by the woman's husband.

To cover up their crime, they brutally killed and dismembered the student.

Scammers were really good at playing on people's sympathy.

What if Jennifer and Shirley were in on it together, tricking Hannah into rescuing Shirley, who would then ask Hannah to take her to find her parents?

Wouldn't Hannah be walking right into a trap?

But if Shirley was telling the truth and Hannah didn't help her, leading to something happening to Shirley, Hannah would feel guilty for the rest of her life.

While Hannah was still on the fence, Jennifer had already grabbed Shirley's hand, forcing a smile.

"We can't do this! I promised your parents I'd take you to them. If you suddenly don't want to go, how can I explain it to them?" Jennifer said, trying to sound reasonable.

Shirley didn't waste any more time and said, "No need. My family has a phone. I'll use her phone to call the police! If you don't leave now, the cops will be here soon."

Jennifer's face darkened instantly.

She almost gritted her teeth as she asked, "Are you really not coming with me? Think carefully."

Shirley didn't bother to respond, hiding behind Hannah to make her point clear.

Seeing that Shirley wasn't budging, Jennifer looked at Hannah and said, "Are you really her sister? I promised her parents I'd take her to them safely. Think carefully. If you're not her sister, you might be mistaken for a kidnapper."

Hannah hesitated for a moment but ultimately chose to believe Shirley.

After getting Shirley to safety, she could call the police or take her back with Charles. With Charles's skills, there shouldn't be any problems.

"Yes, I'm her sister! Thanks for helping me find her! Could you leave your name and address? I'll definitely visit to thank you properly," Hannah said firmly.

Jennifer clenched her fists tightly.

Her eyes darted around, calculating whether she could successfully escape if she grabbed Shirley.

But there were too many people around.

If Shirley started crying and screaming, attracting security or the police, not only would she fail to kidnap Shirley, but she also wouldn't be able to escape.

Hannah looked at her calmly.

From Jennifer's expression, she was now certain that Shirley was telling the truth.

Fortunately, Shirley was smart and noticed in time.

If it had been another kid, they might have already been taken away.

Seeing that Jennifer was still reluctant to leave, Hannah calmly took out her phone and said, "If you don't believe I'm her sister, I can call the police and let them handle it."

As she spoke, her slender fingers pressed the screen.

Shirley peeked out from behind Hannah and said to Jennifer, "If you don't leave, my sister will really call the police!"

Afraid they would really call the police, Jennifer gritted her teeth and said, "No need. Since you're her sister, I'll leave her to you! I'm leaving."

Seeing her plan about to succeed but suddenly failing, Jennifer couldn't even maintain a fake smile. Glancing at the patrolling security guard not far away, she had no choice but to give up, despite her reluctance.

The deal didn't go through, but she couldn't risk exposing herself.

Shirley was clearly a smart kid, and Jennifer couldn't afford to get caught because of Shirley.

Jennifer glared at Hannah viciously. Her plan was ruined, so she was trembling with anger, her eyes red with rage, and she turned to leave.

Jennifer thought, 'Damn it. If I had known, I would have just knocked her out and taken her.'

Because Shirley was a bit older, not a toddler, carrying her far was too difficult. So she had planned to trick her into the car and then knock her out.

The exit was right in front of her, and she was so close to succeeding, but she still failed.

She was deeply regretful.

Seeing Jennifer finally leave, Hannah's tense nerves relaxed.

Shirley also stepped out from behind Hannah, looking up at her face, liking her more and more.

"Thank you. If it weren't for you, I would have been kidnapped," Shirley said.

Hannah squatted down and ruffled her hair. "You're really smart! It was your cleverness that saved you!"

Kids loved being praised, and hearing Hannah's compliment, Shirley blushed and smiled happily. "Can I borrow your phone? I want to call my parents. They must be worried sick."

Hannah generously handed her phone over. Just as she placed it in Shirley's hand, a familiar voice was heard, "Why did it take you so long to buy a drink?"

This voice made both Hannah and Shirley freeze.

They both turned to look at Charles in unison.
