Chapter 1126 Carter Learns Hannah is Violet
Carter had been out cold for so long that his memory was all jumbled up. He wasn't really suffering from amnesia, though.
So, when Charles jogged his memory, everything came flooding back. He got all worked up and tried to sit up. "It was Austin! That jerk Austin, he pushed me down the stairs!"
Even though it happened so fast and he didn't actually see it, he felt someone shove him from behind, making him fall down the stairs.
The place was a new development and pretty empty at the time, and Austin was the only one behind him. Who else could it have been?
As he fell, he clearly saw Austin standing at the top, staring down at him with a cold look.
That look was something he'd never seen before—so strange and chilling.
It was like Austin wasn't his son, but some kind of enemy.
He could see the murderous intent in Austin's eyes, sending chills down his spine and making him realize one thing.
His son wanted him dead.
"It really was him." Lassie was furious, her face turning red.
Even though the evidence pointed to it, hearing Carter confirm it was still hard to swallow.
Carter was Austin's father!
How could he?
How dare he?
And then there was Violet, who was his sister.
How could he have feelings for his own sister?
Suddenly, a realization hit her, and she shivered.
Could it be that Austin knew something?
And when Charles told Tina that Austin was adopted, Tina didn't seem surprised, which meant she knew Austin wasn't biologically part of the Moore family?
When did Austin find out?
And how did he find out?
All these years, she hadn't noticed a thing.
Charles, being an outsider, was much calmer than Carter and Lassie. Seeing Carter struggle to get up, he pressed down on his shoulder, trying to calm him, "Take it easy! You just woke up, you need to stay calm."
Carter couldn't calm down at all.
Thinking about how the son he raised wanted him dead, how could he stay calm?
"Where is Austin? Where is he now? I need to see him, I need to ask him why he did this. I loved him for twenty years, and he wants to kill me."
Charles asked, "What happened between you two back then?"
Maybe they could find some clues from that.
Carter froze, then quieted down, starting to recall.
The argument on the bridge with Austin slowly pieced together from scattered fragments into a complete memory.
"Dad, I really love Hannah! I've never liked anyone this much in my life! I've never asked you for anything. This time, I'm begging you, don't tell Charles. I just want to keep Hannah by my side."
"Tell me, what did you do to Hannah? Why does she talk so strangely? Why doesn't she doubt her identity at all?"
"Dad, please, don't ask! I promise you, this is the last time. As long as I can keep Hannah by my side, I won't do anything to wrong the Langley family again."
"I'm asking you one last time, are you going to ignore my words and insist on doing this?"
"Yes! I love Hannah, and no matter what, I will keep her by my side. She can only be mine, no one else can take her."
"Fine, have it your way! But don't blame me for telling Charles about this!"
"Listen to me, let me take Hannah back! I promise you, I'll find you the best girl in the world."
"No, I just want Hannah."
"In that case, don't blame me! One day you'll thank me for this!"
He was about to leave and tell Charles about Hannah's whereabouts.
Unexpectedly, after taking a few steps down the stairs, he felt a strong push from behind, and then he lost his balance and tumbled down.
Carter finally remembered everything. "It was Hannah—I remember now! I was on a business trip to Country H, and Austin was there for a seminar. I wanted to surprise him, but I saw him with Hannah."
Charles' eyebrows furrowed deeply.
Just as he suspected.
Hannah was found in Country H, and Carter had his accident there, too.
After confirming that Austin was behind everything, he speculated that Carter must have discovered something, leading Austin to try to kill him.
But Austin, unable to fully go through with it, had Tina hypnotize Carter to keep him asleep indefinitely.
It was a bold guess, unconfirmed, but now Carter's words had validated it.
Carter continued, "I noticed Hannah's behavior was odd, so I sensed something was wrong. I tried to persuade Austin to return Hannah to Charles, but he refused!
We had a fierce argument!
I told him his actions were wrong! No matter how much you like someone, you shouldn't do something so immoral. His actions were no different from Hunter's back then.
But he wouldn't listen, as if he were possessed.
I had no choice but to tell him I would inform Charles of Hannah's whereabouts. As I was leaving, someone pushed me from behind, and I fell down the stairs. I don't remember anything after that."
It felt like he had been in a long, long dream.
In the dream, he kept walking down a road that never seemed to end.
But he wasn't tired, he just kept walking.
Until just now, he suddenly saw a door ahead. Curious, he opened it, and then he woke up.
After hearing his story, Lassie was furious. "He's gone mad! Doing all these terrible things for Violet!"
Carter was confused for a moment, blinking. "Violet? What does this have to do with Violet?"
Lassie then remembered that Carter didn't know Hannah was their daughter Violet. She quickly explained, "Dear, the Violet we found back then was a fake. She's not our daughter. Our daughter is Hannah."
Carter was clearly in disbelief, "How could she be fake? I had a paternity test done."
Charles explained, "Austin tampered with the paternity test report! The fake Violet was someone he found to impersonate her."
Carter's mind was reeling. "He, he found someone to impersonate her? Why? Why would he do that?"
Lassie explained, "Austin liked Violet. To get her, he had the White family couple adopt her eight years ago. Then he found a fake Violet to pose as our daughter."
Carter was stunned!
The sudden influx of information was overwhelming.
For the first time, Carter felt his brain couldn't keep up.
