Chapter 921 Ambiguity

After figuring out who Charles really was, Lisa and Quentin noticed he was struggling to walk and worried he might get worn out. So, they decided to personally help him get a taxi. Once Charles got in, Lisa just stood there, looking like she wanted to say something but was too shy to spit it out.

Seeing her hesitation, Charles didn't shut the car door right away and asked softly, "Is there something else? Need my help with anything?"

Quentin also gave Lisa a curious look.

Lisa chuckled and said, "That car you mentioned earlier..."

Quentin looked confused.

Charles finally got it and smiled. "Don't worry. I've already asked my assistant to bring the car over. Once it gets here tomorrow, I'll have him deliver it to you personally and handle all the paperwork."

It was the first time Lisa had met someone who just handed her money like that.

Compared to Austin, who always acted all high and mighty, Charles was a breath of fresh air.

The more she looked at him, the more she liked him.

Lisa replied, "Great! I'll be home all day, not going anywhere! You can come anytime!"

"Alright!" Charles nodded, and seeing Lisa step back, he closed the car door and told the driver to head to the hotel.

Watching the taxi drive away, Lisa was grinning from ear to ear.

Lisa complained, "Hannah is so clueless. She met such a rich boyfriend but didn't tell us sooner. If I had known he was Charles, Martin's eldest son and the CEO of IntelliMerge Technologies, I wouldn't have objected even if he were a vegetable! Hannah looks unimpressive, but she found us such a rich son-in-law."

For the first time, she felt that raising Hannah for seven years wasn't a waste.

Seeing her excitement, Quentin burst her bubble. "You're getting excited too soon. Don't forget that Hannah isn't our biological daughter. Austin handed her over to us to raise because he wanted to marry her! He won't give up easily. If we go against him, he might reveal Hannah's true identity. Forget about any benefits; we might both be in trouble."

Lisa was reminded by his words.

The smile on her face quickly faded.

Lisa asked anxiously, "What should we do? I really don't want to lose this wealthy son-in-law! Our family has been poor for so many years, and we're finally about to turn things around. With him, Oliver won't have to worry after graduating from college. If he can get into IntelliMerge Technologies, how many people would envy that!"

Quentin gave her a look. "You're dreaming too much."

Lisa pouted, "What else can we do? Our family is already in a bad situation. After you got sick, we owed so much money. We just finished paying it off, but now you're sick again! With your health, you could be fired at any time, and then we really won't be able to make ends meet."

Quentin sighed deeply and stopped arguing with her. Because he didn't know what to do either.

He didn't want to give up wealthy Charles, but he also couldn't offend Austin.

They were truly in a dilemma!

On the other side.

After getting out of the taxi, Charles hobbled back to the hotel with his cane.

After a long day, his leg was really hurting, like someone had shattered his bones. Every part of it hurt, even standing still.

By the time he reached the hotel room door, he was already sweating from the pain.

Just as he was about to collapse, he saw Hannah standing at his room door.

He immediately put on a smile and asked, "How long have you been standing here? Why didn't you call me?"

Seeing him in pain, Hannah felt very distressed. She silently walked over, put his arm around her shoulder, and helped him into the room.

Not wanting her to worry, Charles, despite the pain, smiled and said, "I'm fine! The doctor said I need to move around more."

Hannah helped him sit on the sofa, then placed his leg on her lap and began to massage it with her slender fingers.

She didn't have much technique, but the pressure was just right, and Charles immediately felt much more comfortable.

"Your massage skills are pretty good!" To lighten the mood, he joked.

Hannah's eyes were red, and as she massaged, she asked, "Did you go see my parents?"

Charles didn't intend to hide it from her and nodded. "Yes, I went to see them! We had a pleasant conversation, and they agreed to let us be together."

He couldn't hide his happiness.

Hannah knew Lisa and Quentin too well. There was only one reason they would agree.

"Did you offer them benefits?" Her voice carried a hint of choking and grievance.

Charles noticed her sadness and gently cupped her face, lifting her head. When he saw her red eyes, his heart ached. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Hannah lowered her eyes, not daring to look at him.

"My parents have always been broke, and later my dad racked up a ton of debt from a liver transplant, so they love money. Now that they know you're loaded, they'll definitely keep hitting you up for cash! Your money is hard-earned! I don't want you to keep supporting them because of me. I can earn money to support them myself, but I don't want you to do it for me."

When things got tough, Hannah could ask Charles for help. But on the regular, she didn't want Charles to be constantly pestered by Lisa and Quentin for money.

Charles got what she was saying. His long fingers gently wiped away her tears, and he softly said, "Problems that can be solved with money aren't really problems. The Langley family may lack many things, but money isn't one of them! It's the problems that money can't solve that are truly tough. I'm actually relieved that what they want is money. It's within my capability."

"But..." Hannah was still conflicted.

Charles gently stroked her face. "Think about it, how many people get sick and can't be cured even with money? How many people are forced to be separated from their families and can't find them even with money? There are many things in this world that money can't solve! If we can solve something with money now, why not do it? Do you want your dad to get sick from stress again? Or for your mom to keep nagging you? I don't mind them nagging me; I'm used to it! But seeing you get scolded by them breaks my heart! I'm a man, and it's my duty to protect the woman I love!"

Hannah's eyes filled with tears of emotion.

She looked at Charles, her throat choked with emotion, and hugged him tightly. "Charles, you're so good to me. You're the best person I've ever had in my life."

Although Quentin wasn't biased, Hannah still suffered a lot of grievances because his ability was limited.

Lisa had always favored Oliver.

As for Austin, although he liked her, he always wanted to control her life and make her follow his plans.

It was only after meeting Charles that she understood what it meant to be liked, respected, and valued.

Charles was truly the best man she had ever met.

She finally understood why she fell in love with him so deeply and uncontrollably.

No matter when, as long as she met him, she would definitely fall in love with him.

Charles gently patted her back and said, "Doesn't Stella treat you well? She'd be upset if she heard you say that."

Hannah laughed at his joke.

Charles let go of her and ruffled her hair. "Not sad anymore?"

Hannah shook her head.

With Charles treating her so well, she was not worried at all.

Charles asked lightly, "So, can you tell me now why you were at my door? How long were you waiting?"

Hannah explained, "I couldn't sleep and wanted to talk to you. I knocked on the door for a long time with no response, so I thought you were asleep. Then, after a while, my mom sent me a picture of you, and I realized you had gone to see them. I wanted to find you, but my mom wouldn't tell me where you were. So I had to wait at the door."

Charles felt a pang of heartache and ruffled her hair again. "You could have contacted me! I just wanted to resolve this matter quickly and didn't want you to worry. But it's not something to hide. If you wanted to come, I wouldn't have stopped you."

Hannah bit her lip, feeling aggrieved. "I was a bit angry at the time, so I didn't contact you."

Charles gently hugged her and said softly, "Remember, if anything happens, come to me directly! Anytime!"

Hannah nodded. "I know!"

Charles chuckled, his warm breath brushing against Hannah's forehead like a feather, gently sweeping across her heart.

Charles joked, "I have to say, the advice from people online was really good! If I had known it would be so easy to solve, I would have used it when I visited today! I made you get scolded for nothing."

For the first time, he realized the power of money.

He had never worried about money and always thought it was easy to earn, so he couldn't empathize with how hard it was for others to make money.

If he had known, he wouldn't have complicated things by looking it up online!

Hannah laughed again. "It's my fault for overthinking something!"

With the issue resolved, the burden on her heart seemed to lighten, and she instantly felt much more relaxed and in a better mood.

Seeing her smile, Charles's mood also improved.

He stared at Hannah seriously. Under the soft white light, her smile was exceptionally bright, like fireworks blooming in the dark, making it hard for him to look away.

The previously relaxed atmosphere suddenly became more intimate.
