Chapter 552 Ambiguities

Patricia watched their figures disappear before turning to head back, only to literally bump into Eva, who was in a rush, luggage by her side, clearly preparing for a long trip.

"Patricia, where are you off to?" Eva asked, her smile spreading, "Did Mr. Koch head back to his home country?"

Patricia nodded.

Eva, glancing at her luggage, said with a hint of mystery, "I knew Mr. Koch was going back today, so I've decided to chase after him."

Patricia gaped at her.

Eva crossed her arms confidently. "I've fallen for Mr. Koch, and I want to pursue him."

Patricia stood shocked, closing her eyes and shaking her head hard, trying to dismiss the absurdity of the situation.

'This must be a mistake,' she thought. It must be a dream.

Patricia slapped her face hard, wincing at the pain. The pain confirmed the reality of the situation.

Patricia's eyes widened in terror as she stared at Eva. "You're not joking?"

"Do I look like I'm joking?" Eva responded, her seriousness clear.

Patricia, still reeling from the shock, managed to say, "You always preferred guys like Martin, right? How could you...? How could you fall for my big brother?"

The two men couldn't be more different. Her brother was mature and steady, treating people with kindness and respect. Martin, on the other hand, was icy due to his upbringing. His cold demeanor always kept others at arm's length.

How could a single person encompass such contrasting personalities?

Eva chuckled. "No, no, no. If a guy catches my eye, I couldn't care less about his personality. I can mesh with any guy."

Patricia was at a loss for words. It was the first time she'd heard someone describe attraction in such a refreshing way.

Suddenly, Patricia remembered the day she saw Eva kiss Riley at the café. "So, you've had your sights set on my brother for a while now?"

Eva only smiled.

Patricia got the message and patted her shoulder. "I admire your courage, going after a real challenge."

Eva calmly said, "The bigger the challenge, the more excited I get. Unless he has a girlfriend or is married, I never let go. A woman pursuing a man is just a matter of persistence; I'm sure I'll win him over."

Patricia was torn between admiration and concern but ultimately admired Eva's boldness. "So, did you quit your job or take a leave of absence?"

"I quit, of course!" Eva responded. "I'm prepared for a long-term campaign. I doubt I'll be back from Country Y anytime soon."

Patricia patted her shoulder. "Go for it. I hope one day I can call you cousin-in-law."

She hoped Eva would never regret her decision and that she'd successfully win over the man of her dreams.

"Just wait; it will happen!" Eva exclaimed, checking the time. "I need to board my flight."

"Call and let me know you're safe once you land in Country Y/"

"Sure! Bye," Eva said, turning to leave with a wave, her suitcase rolling behind her.

As Eva disappeared through the gate, Patricia felt a pang of loneliness, her thoughts drifting to Martin and the void his absence left.

'Martin, everyone's gone, including you. Now it's just me and the kids at home.'

...

Once Shane and the others had left, Patricia and her five children returned to the Ellenstein Villa District. Jade concerned for Patricia, moved with them to their luxurious brother's place, planning to stay until Patricia recovered from her grief.

With James' support, Patricia took the helm as the CEO of the Langley Group. The new chip and system developed by Charles made a sensational debut, boosting the Langley Group's stock and market value significantly.

During this time, Patricia, James, and Alan often worked late. On one day, as James and Alan finished their tasks, they found Patricia asleep at her desk.

The sunlight cast a warm glow around her, capturing their attention.

Alan, noticing James' tender gaze, picked up some paperwork and left. James fetched a light blanket from the rest area sectioned off from the CEO's office and gently covered Patricia. He reached out as if to touch her cheek but stopped himself.

"Patricia," he whispered, unable to suppress his feelings any longer.

Unexpectedly, Patricia jolted awake at the sound of her name, her gaze locking onto his with intensity. James's breath hitched, and he felt an urge to flee.

Patricia caught his arm in a firm grasp. "What did you just call me?"

James, avoiding her gaze, said, "Y-you heard wrong. I didn't say anything."

Patricia, now fully awake, threw off her comforter. "I know what I heard. You called me Patricia."

For some reason, she decided to feign sleep since he covered her with the blanket, a decision she was now grateful for; it allowed her to hear him say her name.

Cornered by her piercing gaze, James steadied himself and met her gaze. "Now that you're awake, there's something I've been wanting to tell you."

Patricia's heart skipped a beat. An inexplicable tension was growing within her, and she felt an odd sense of anticipation for what he was about to say.

"What is it?" she asked.

"The company's crisis is over, so it's time for me to go," he said, dropping a bomb shell.

Patricia was left utterly stunned.
