Chapter 744 The Calm in the Storm
Charles, feeling pretty helpless with Fannie, walked over and pinched her ear, gently pulling her away from Patricia's embrace.
"Fannie, what are you doing?" he asked, exasperated.
Though he pinched her ear, he didn't use much force. He couldn't bring himself to actually hurt her.
Fannie went along with it, moving out of Patricia's arms, then swatted his hand away, puffing her cheeks in mock anger. Fannie said, "I didn't mean to it."
Patricia found the whole scene both amusing and frustrating.
Patricia said, "I've only been gone a few months, and now I can't understand what you're saying? Are you speaking in riddles?"
Fannie immediately clung to Patricia's arm, "No, it's Charles bullying me."
Charles, with a stern face, warned in a deep voice, "I am your brother!"
Fannie refused to comply, making a face at him, "I won't. I won't. Charles, Charles, you're just Charles."
Charles, at a loss, looked to Patricia for help, "You need to do something about Fannie! She's getting more and more unruly."
Patricia affectionately ruffled Fannie's hair, knowing they were just playing around, "Go change your clothes. Mommy will take you to meet someone."
Fannie asked curiously, "Who? Daddy?"
Patricia shook her head.
Fannie immediately asked, "Then where's Daddy? Did you come back alone? I miss Daddy."
Patricia explained to Fannie, "Your daddy is at the Riley's! Where are Grandpa Shane and Aunt Ariel?"
As soon as she finished speaking, two doors at the end of the hallway opened, and Shane and Ariel walked out.
Seeing Patricia, their expressions same as Charles, Randy, and Fannie—first stunned, then quickly coming over to ask why she was back and where Martin was.
Patricia patiently explained to them.
Shane said, "I'll get someone to bring Maria and Declan out of the nursery! You've been gone for months. Who knows if they still recognize you!"
"Alright!" Patricia nodded with a smile, linking arms with Ariel as they went downstairs.
Charles and Randy, having changed their clothes, followed behind them.
Fannie went back to her room to change.
Since Patricia went upstairs, Ryan and Daisy had invited Kaleb and Hunter to sit on the sofa in the first-floor living room to wait.
The staircase leading upstairs was on the left side of the first-floor hall.
Kaleb specifically chose a sofa facing the stairs to sit on.
When Patricia led Charles and Randy downstairs, he immediately saw the two boys following Patricia, who looked identical and as beautiful as if they had stepped out of a painting.
They were very tall. Taller than their peers.
With outstanding height, striking looks, and an innate nobility, at just seven years old, they were like magnets, firmly attracting everyone's attention.
Charles and Randy did not resemble Patricia.
They were miniature versions of Martin.
They had perfectly inherited all of Martin's best features.
Seeing them come downstairs, Kaleb eagerly stood up and walked over.
Kaleb asked, "You must be Charles and Randy!"
Though he couldn't yet tell which one was Charles and which was Randy.
But just looking at the two of them made him incredibly happy.
Charles and Randy looked at him in confusion.
Charles asked, "Excuse me, sir. Who are you?"
Could it be that Kaleb is the person Mommy mentioned they were going to meet?
Kaleb, with tears in his eyes, couldn't wait for Patricia to speak, "I am your grandfather," he said eagerly.
Randy tilted his head, "Grandfather?"
Charles looked back and forth between Kaleb and Patricia, "Are you my mom's biological father?"
Kaleb nodded vigorously, "Yes, I am your mom's biological father!"
He excitedly grasped Charles's hand, "You must be Charles, right?"
Although his tone was uncertain, Patricia had mentioned that Charles was very smart, with an IQ of 180—a little genius. In contrast, Randy was more composed and reserved. So, he had a feeling this was Charles.
Sure enough, Charles nodded, "Yes, I am Charles!" He then pointed to Randy beside him, "This is my brother Randy!"
Kaleb looked at them with satisfaction, very fond of these two grandsons he was meeting for the first time. Just looking at them made him feel content, as if he could die without any regrets now.
After they finished introducing themselves, Patricia finally spoke, "Your grandfather is amazing. He is the Dr. Tate who I was looking for, and he is the one who cured your daddy!"
Charles, who had a clear sense of right and wrong, feared he might misunderstand Kaleb for abandoning Patricia, leading to her unhappy childhood, and thus hold a grudge against Kaleb. Hearing that he saved Martin, Charles and Randy's attitudes towards him improved significantly.
Randy said, "Grandfather, you are amazing! Thank you for saving my father."
Charles also politely thanked him, "Thank you!"
Kaleb felt a bit shy from their praise.
At this moment, Fannie, having changed her clothes, came bouncing down the stairs, holding a comb and a hair tie, which she handed to Patricia, "I want Mommy to tie my hair! Aunt Ariel always pulls my hair too hard."
Ariel, annoyed, tapped her on the forehead, "Fannie, you are never satisfied when I do your hair! If you think you can do better, go ahead!"
Fannie didn't dare offend her and clung to her arm, trying to appease her.
Kaleb, looking at Fannie, who somewhat looked like Patricia, felt as if he was seeing Patricia as a child—a feeling he couldn't describe, and his eyes instantly welled up. Kaleb said, "Patricia, she looks so much like you!"
He wondered if Patricia had been this playful and cute as a child. Missing Patricia's childhood was his greatest regret in life. Now it seemed he had found it in Fannie.
Patricia smiled at Kaleb, "When she was little, she didn't look like me at all, neither like me nor Martin. We didn't know who she resembled! But as she grew up, she started to look more and more like me."
Fannie then noticed Kaleb's presence, tilted her head, and curiously asked, "Mommy, who is this grandpa? Why does he call you Patricia?"
This name was only used by the closest people.
Patricia quickly explained, "He is your grandfather, my biological father!"
Fannie widened her eyes in surprise and looked at Kaleb with amazement.
Kaleb couldn't seem to get enough of looking at Fannie.
Fannie, feeling a bit shy under his gaze, squinted her eyes and smiled, "I don't look like Mommy, but my sister looks exactly like her."
As soon as she finished speaking, there was a noise from upstairs. Then two servants came down holding the one-year-old Maria and Declan.
Maria and Declan seemed to remember Patricia. As soon as they saw her from afar, they kept waving at her, eager to rush over immediately.
