Chapter 848: Kill Charles
Karen twisted her lips into a wicked grin.
Austin shot her a look, "Got a plan?"
Karen plopped down cross-legged, hands on her knees, and said with a nasty edge, "Since Charles keeps snatching your stuff, make him vanish for good. He won't be around to fight you for Violet anymore."
Austin's eyes went wide with shock, "You mean...?"
Karen saw he got the hint and her grin turned even darker, "Exactly. Off him. Wipe him off the face of the earth."
Charles was Martin's kid. His death would hit Martin and Patricia like a freight train. She wanted them to feel the gut-wrenching pain of losing someone they loved.
Maybe she couldn't take out Martin to avenge her man, but taking down Charles would be enough.
Catching on to Karen's plan, Austin freaked out, "No way! I can't kill him. Isn't there another option?"
Sure, he couldn't stand Charles, even envied and hated him. But murder? That was a whole different ball game.
Karen rolled her eyes, "If you're too chicken to do anything, you might as well hand Violet over to Charles!"
Austin's handsome face went ghostly pale.
Karen knew she struck a nerve and kept pushing, "You'll never outshine Charles! He's Martin's real son, his mom's a top cardiologist, his grandpa's Kaleb Taylor from Nexus Holdings, and his great-grandpa's Shane Getty from The Koch Group! His uncles are all big shots. And Charles? He’s a prodigy, outdoing his dad and uncles at a young age. And you? Carter raised you, but you're not his real son. Charles started IntelliMerge Technologies at sixteen. And you? At twenty, you're just tagging along with a professor, doing small-time experiments. You're doomed to lose to Charles, doomed to be second-rate your whole life. You're destined to be a nobody."
Karen's words shattered Austin's last bit of composure.
He lunged at Karen, face twisted in rage, and grabbed her neck, pinning her to the ground.
Austin snarled, "Shut up, I'm not a failure. I'm not."
He'd been a standout since he was a kid.
A genius in the eyes of teachers and professors.
He wasn't a failure. He was better than everyone around him.
Everyone envied him.
His grip wasn't tight, and Karen wasn't choking. Seeing his reaction, she laughed even harder, feeling triumphant.
Karen sneered, "Did I hit a nerve? You're just a loser, a failure. You'll never beat Charles. You'll always be his second fiddle. And you think you can compete with him for Violet? Let me tell you, Violet will ditch you for him sooner or later, you loser."
Austin lost it completely, his grip tightening around her neck.
Austin screamed, "I'm not, I'm not, I'm not."
Karen's face turned red from the lack of air.
But she wasn't freaked out or scared at all. Instead, she stayed super chill, "If you kill me, who's gonna give you advice? Who's gonna help you get Violet?"
Austin's brain snapped back to reality. Seeing his almost-strangled mom, Karen, he freaked out and let go, backing away like she was a monster.
Karen got up, dusted herself off, and smirked, "That's right! We're blood, you and me. Even though you locked me up here, I'm the only one who can really help you. I won't hurt you!"
Austin's legs gave out, and he crumpled to the floor.
Karen spoke slowly, "Listen to me, kill Charles. Take him out, and no one will stand in your way for Violet. She'll be all yours."
Austin looked shell-shocked, totally lost.
Karen kept going, "Charles got kidnapped when he was five and started learning self-defense after that. He's a beast! Dozens of people can't even touch him!"
So, snatching him and then offing him would be a tough gig.
Karen's eyes went icy, "There are plenty of ways to kill someone, not just one."
Austin's head snapped up, eyes wide, "What way?"
He thought kidnapping and then killing was the safest bet.
Karen's grin turned sinister, "Think about it: food poisoning, a car crash, drunk driving, an 'accidental' fall from a building, or even making it look like he offed himself from depression. Tons of ways. Once you decide to act, I can cook up a foolproof plan. We can take him out and keep you in the clear."
Austin sat there, paralyzed, unable to decide.
Yeah, he hated Charles. As long as Charles was around, he'd always be second best. As long as Charles was around, Violet would never look his way. But he never thought about actually killing someone. Even when Karen wanted to mess with Carter and Violet, he just locked her up and never thought about killing her. Taking a life? Making someone disappear forever? He couldn't wrap his head around it.
Karen leaned on her elbow, chin resting on her wrist, looking like she knew Austin would cave. She wasn't in any rush, "Think it over! If you wait too long, Violet will be with him."
The thought of Violet ditching him for Charles again made Austin's hesitation vanish.
Austin declared, "I can't let Violet leave me!"
Everything was falling into place. Karen's smile was pure victory, "That's right! Now, let's figure out how to make him die quietly. Tell me his habits and personality, and I'll whip up the perfect plan. Once he's gone, Violet will be all yours! I'm your mom; I won't steer you wrong."
Under her spell, Austin's greed took over, and he lost all sense, moving closer to her to plot how to kill Charles without getting caught.
