Chapter 1037 Out of Life-threatening Danger
Martin had no defenses against him.
He had watched Ryan and Carter's children grow up and felt no less affection for them than for his own kids.
Including Violet, if it weren't for everything that had happened, he would have continued to love her just the same.
"No! Charles has tried every possible method, and still no news at all!" Martin replied.
Austin immediately asked, "Didn't Charles think of any other ways? Charles is so capable, how could he not find a single person?"
Martin said, "All the possible methods were already exhausted when we were looking for Violet!"
He implied that Charles had no new ideas.
Austin's lips betrayed him, curving into a slight smile.
"Really no other way?"
Martin sighed and shook his head, "Not for now! Charles hasn't had a good rest for months trying to find Hannah. If we still can't find her, I'm really afraid he won't hold up."
Ryan lamented, "Why is Charles's love life so rough? He barely got over losing Violet and found true love, and now Hannah is in trouble! It's so unfair! And Carter too! Last time he almost died, and now this happened out of nowhere."
Lassie lowered her head in shame, "It's my fault for not raising Violet well! We owe Charles and the Langley family. Ever since Violet was found, she's caused so much trouble for Charles and Hannah. If it weren't for Violet, things wouldn't have turned out this way."
Martin comforted, "What's done is done, don't blame yourself anymore! No one expected things to turn out like this! The most important thing now is for Carter to wake up soon; the rest can wait until he does."
Lassie silently shed tears, saying nothing more.
She also hoped Carter would wake up soon.
But it had been so many days without any signs of him waking up.
She was really scared, scared that Carter would never wake up again.
Ryan and Martin personally went to ask the doctor about Carter's condition. The doctor said pretty much the same as what Austin and Lassie had told them, only more detailed.
Seeing Lassie's haggard face, clearly from several sleepless nights, they asked Austin to take her to a nearby hotel to rest.
"Austin, your father is in good hands with us. Don't worry, take your mother to a nearby hotel to rest and eat something. It's only been a few days, and your mother has lost so much weight."
Hearing this, Lassie immediately shook her head.
"No, I want to stay here and wait for him to wake up."
Martin said, "What if he wakes up and you collapse? I believe he thinks the same as I do; no matter his condition, he wants you to take good care of yourself. He wouldn't want to see you like this."
Austin also said, "Uncle Martin is right. You haven't rested for days; if this continues, your body won't hold up."
Martin continued, "Don't worry, I'll keep you updated on Carter's condition."
Ryan also said, "Martin and Austin are right, Lassie. The three kids still need you; you can't afford to collapse."
Under their persuasion, Lassie finally agreed and left with Austin.
Carter stayed in the ICU for another three days before finally passing the critical period and being moved to a VIP ward.
Lassie was so happy that tears welled up in her eyes.
"Doctor, does this mean my husband will wake up soon?"
Hearing this, Austin's face changed slightly.
The doctor said, "Not necessarily! It just means he's temporarily out of life-threatening danger. As for whether and when he will wake up, I can't say."
Upon hearing this, Lassie's smile froze.
Austin's expression was visibly relaxed.
As long as Carter was out of the critical period, he would feel a bit better.
But if Carter woke up, everything he had done would be in vain, and he would have no place in the Langley family, the Parker family, or the Moore family.
He didn't care about his standing in Sunset Bay.
What he feared was becoming their enemy.
Once he became their enemy, he would be in big trouble.
Behind the Langley family were the Koch family from Country Y and the Reed family from Country D. If these families hunted him down together, he feared he would be caught no matter where he fled.
So, the best outcome was for Carter not to wake up but to stay asleep forever.
This would ensure Carter's life while posing no threat to Austin.
Lassie grabbed the doctor's arm anxiously, "What do you mean, doctor? Are you saying my husband will never wake up?"
The doctor explained, "I just did a full-body check on him. His brain is fine now, and apart from a few fractures that need rest and recovery, there's no major issue! Based on my experience, he should wake up, but I can't give you an exact time."
The doctor's words changed everyone's expressions.
Lassie, Martin, and Ryan were relieved and happy.
Austin's face darkened.
Lassie held the doctor's hand, thanking him repeatedly, "Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much."
The doctor smiled, "If there's nothing else, I'll be going. If you need anything, come to my office anytime!"
"Okay, I will. Thank you."
Amid Lassie's excited thanks, the doctor left with a smile.
Ryan and Martin both breathed a sigh of relief.
Ryan said excitedly, "I knew Carter would be fine. Hunter hurt him so badly last time, and he still pulled through. This time he just fell down the stairs; how could he die? This is great, Carter is amazing."
Martin patted Carter's shoulder on the bed, "Carter, wake up soon, we're all waiting for you! Lassie has lost so much weight for you."
Lassie wiped her moist eyes.
"As long as he's out of danger, I'm relieved!"
The three of them chatted happily in the ward, while Austin sat distractedly on the sofa, saying nothing.
Carter would wake up soon.
Maybe not even a month, maybe a week, or even tomorrow.
If Carter woke up, what would he do?
