Chapter 85 Patricia Escapes by Jumping into the Sea!
In her semi-conscious state, Patricia regained some consciousness during a bumpy ride. Faintly, she heard voices conversing.
"Should we go to the dock now?" One of the people in the vehicle questioned.
"Martin has blocked all the routes out of Ivara City, so we can't leave normally. We'll have to smuggle ourselves out! Sean has arranged two cargo ships for us. You take the little boy on one ship, and I'll take this woman on the other."
"Why not send them away together?" the second man questioned.
"Sean said they shouldn't be kept together and shouldn't be sent to the same place. They need to be separated, never to see each other again in their lives."
"Damn, Sean is so cruel! Separating a mother and child, isn't that a death sentence for them? This little boy is only four and a half years old. Abandoned alone in a foreign country, how can he survive? He will starve to death on the streets one day."
"Yeah! The little one is definitely on a one-way road to death, and the older one... well, their fate won't be any better. I heard from Sean that they've already found buyers, the largest red-light district in Japan."
"The woman who is sold there will be much worse off, even if she doesn't die."
"The person giving the order is truly wicked, and it's a shame she's a woman! A woman's heart is the most venomous; it seems it's not wrong at all."
"When did you start having sympathy?"
"This kid has helped me level up in the game. Shouldn't I have some sympathy for him?"
"..."
The conversation ended at this point.
At this moment, Patricia was fully conscious. Her whole body felt icy cold, as if she had been soaked in ice water, with the chilling air penetrating her bones through her skin.
The kidnappers actually intended to separate her from Charles, ensuring that the two of them would never be reunited in their lifetime.
How malicious.
Who could it be? Why would they treat the two of them this way?
Patricia didn't dare struggle or cry out. She was afraid of stirring up trouble and could only bear the cold, pretending to be unconscious, preparing to seize an opportunity.
After about half an hour.
The van stopped by the seaside.
The back door opened, and Grant single-handedly took out the unconscious Charles and threw him to Roger. He cautioned him, not without worry,
"Remember, give him one pill every day to keep him from waking up. This kid is slick and cunning; don't let him escape, or you'll pay for it."
Roger waved impatiently, "Alright, I got it! It's not my first time doing this; I know the rules."
Grant nodded in satisfaction, then bent down to lift Patricia out of the backseat and carried her on his shoulder.
"After reaching the destination, quickly contact me and Sean!" he said, then paused and added anxiously.
"Remember, don't let him wake up. Feed him one pill every day."
"Alright, alright, I got it. Stop nagging!" Roger, fearing he would continue to nag, dropped these words and carried Charles onto one of the cargo ships.
Squinting her eyes, Patricia saw them board a blue cargo ship with the letters OMM printed on it.
Immediately after, Grant carried her onto another nearby cargo ship.
Afraid of being discovered, she immediately closed her eyes and continued pretending to be unconscious.
She didn't know where she was taken. After about ten minutes, her body was suddenly thrown out and landed heavily on a wooden bed, causing her heart to almost stop beating.
She narrowly avoided crying out in fright, luckily managing to restrain herself from being discovered.
Grant clapped his hands and asked the man beside him, "When will the ship depart?"
The man replied, "It's still early; the ship won't depart until 8 o'clock tonight!"
Grant asked again, "There shouldn't be any problems when going through customs, right?"
The man answered.
"Don't worry, there won't be any problems! This is a hidden compartment; ordinary people won't find it! Besides, this isn't your first time doing this; why are you so timid this time?"
Grant worriedly said, "Better safe than sorry. I'm just afraid of any unexpected incidents!"
"Don't worry; there won't be any unexpected incidents! Unless she escapes from the inside herself, people outside won't be able to find this place." The sailor assured.
Grant breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good then! Damn it, carrying her all the way here has exhausted me! Let's go out and have something to eat."
The sailor exclaimed, "After eating, how about a gamble? It's been so long since we've gambled, and we're itching to play."
"Hmm?" Grant hesitated for a moment, looking at Patricia with a troubled expression.
Seeing his concern, the man reassured him.
"Oh, come on, isn't she unconscious? Nothing will happen! Besides, there are people everywhere on this freighter, she can't escape. Let's go, today we must play a few rounds."
Under the other man's insistence, Grant ultimately couldn't resist the temptation and agreed.
With her ears perked up, Patricia heard a slight sound of a door closing.
She squinted her eyes open, confirming that there was no one around, and then immediately reached into her pocket to find her phone, only to discover it was empty, her phone was lost somewhere.
Helpless, she had to give up seeking help and instead prepared to escape from here first, then find a way to save Charles on another freighter.
The secret compartment's door wasn't locked. With a gentle twist, the door opened.
Patricia stuck out half of her head, searched around outside, made sure no one was there, and quickly slipped out, cautiously closing the secret compartment door.
The freighter was eerily quiet, not a single person in sight.
Patricia walked from the secret room to the cargo hold without encountering anyone and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Thinking she could escape smoothly all the way, suddenly someone behind her shouted, "Oh no, she's missing! Everyone, quickly find her, don't let her get away."
Patricia's breath hitched as her eyes quickly scanned the surroundings; without hesitation, she opened the nearest cargo room and hid inside.
As soon as the cargo room door closed, a flurry of chaotic footsteps echoed outside.
With her back pressed against the door, Patricia pressed her trembling heart with both hands, her ears pricked, listening to the commotion outside.
As the footsteps grew closer, her heartbeat faster, as if it wanted to jump out of her throat.
"Where is she? Where did she go?" It was Grant's voice she remembered from the van ride over.
Fearing that she might make a sound, Patricia immediately covered her mouth tightly with her hand.
"I don't know. Everyone went to gamble. Only Old Tom is outside, but he's old, his eyesight is dim, and he's listening to the radio, so he didn't notice either."
The man who answered had a rough voice, the same man who had been chatting with Grant on the freighter earlier, it must be the sailor.
"Fuck! I fucking said let's not gamble, but you insisted, and now this, the woman ran off. How am I going to explain this to Sean? What if she escapes and reports to the police? We'll all be done for." Grant cursed.
"What should we do then?" the sailor asked.
"What should we do? Of course, we have to go find her! We only played one round, she shouldn't have gone far, there's only one way back. Hurry up and chase after her, we must find her."
As the voice faded, there was another frantic rush of footsteps.
After a while, the footsteps finally ceased.
Patricia, still worried, stayed for a while longer. When there was complete silence outside, she opened the door and ran to the deck in one breath, finding the ladder that led to the shore.
Just as she was halfway down the ladder, Grant returned and blocked her path, staring at her with a dark expression and gritted teeth.
"I underestimated you, woman. How dare you pretend to be unconscious!"
Patricia, shocked by her discovery, held onto the railing beside the ladder, took a glance at the deep sea below her feet, then looked back at the deck while pretending to remain calm as she stared at him.
"I tell you, I am Martin's wife, and the one your partner took away is Martin's son! It would be best if you released me immediately, or else... or else he will not spare you." Patricia threatened.
Upon hearing this, Grant's face displayed disbelief, "You are Martin's wife?"
Thinking that he was scared, Patricia's heart eased a bit. She stood tall and said, "Yes, I am Martin's wife. If you don't believe me, you can call and ask."
Grant looked at her in shock. Slowly, an expression of grotesqueness twisted his face.
"If you are Martin's wife, then we definitely cannot let you go back! We can sell you to Japan, and you would never return, nor would you be able to seek justice from her. If we let you go back, how would my brothers and I escape from Martin's methods?"
With a thud, Patricia's heart sank to the bottom of a valley.
Grant evilly curled his lips, taking steps closer to Patricia.
"Don't struggle in vain anymore. Just come back with me obediently. On the way, I can still ensure your safety. Otherwise, I’ll make sure to take half your life." Grant threatened.
Forced to step back inch by inch, Patricia bit her lower lip hard, and when she saw Grant's hand reaching out, she made a determined decision. She bit down hard, flipped over the railing, and jumped into the sea, quickly engulfed by the water...
