Chapter 890 Sleeping Pills in the Tea
Man, Randy was on cloud nine for like, a hot second before Brian dropped the bomb.
Brian goes, "Yeah, he didn't teach me squat."
Randy's jaw hit the floor.
Brian kept going, "Charles knew this trick ages ago! Dude was always overseas, never had the time. Finally, he was gonna teach me, but then Violet had that accident. So, here we are."
Randy just stood there, speechless.
Brian added, "Gotta hand it to Charles, he's a freakin' genius. He can whip up anything! We bust our butts trying to learn, and he just breezes through it. When I get a chance, I gotta get him to teach me more. You never stop learning, right?"
Randy, totally bummed out, said, "Alright, I'm out."
Brian quickly shouted, "Wait, Randy, you didn't tell me who you're looking for with this technique! I might not know this one, but I know others! Send me a pic, and I can totally find him for you..."
But Randy had already hung up.
Charles was still laid up in the hospital, and Randy wasn't in the mood for chit-chat.
After the call, neither Maximilian nor Martin asked what happened. They didn't need to.
One look at Randy's face, and they knew it was bad news.
The three of them just sat there, not saying a word, all looking pretty grim.
That evening, Hannah, like the past two nights, stayed in the hospital room to keep watch.
Charles was in a VIP suite, decked out with everything but a kitchen. The place was huge and bright.
To make overnight stays easier, Carol had swapped out the sofa for a foldable one.
During the day, it was a couch.
At night, it turned into a bed.
So, whoever was keeping watch could get some decent sleep and be ready to take care of Charles during the day.
Carol had dragged Patricia back to the Reed Family's place to rest.
Randy did the same with Martin.
Since Charles's accident, Patricia and Martin hadn't had a good night's sleep. They might look young, but they were middle-aged and couldn't keep this up.
After they left, Hannah sat alone by the bed, holding Charles's hand and talking to him, "Please wake up soon! I really wanna hear your voice. You know what? Last night I dreamed you woke up, and we went to see the ocean, traveled around. When you wake up, let's go watch the sunrise and sunset together, okay? Please, wake up soon! I still wanna do so many things with you. With you lying here like this, I feel so lonely and miserable."
She started to choke up, "Charles, please wake up soon! If you don't wake up, what am I gonna do? I can't live without you."
Hannah held Charles's hand, burying her face in his palm.
In no time, his palm was soaked with her tears, slowly filling with them.
Suddenly, Hannah felt a light touch on her face.
She froze, stopping her crying.
A moment later, she felt another light touch on her face.
She widened her eyes in disbelief, slowly letting go of Charles's hand, staring at it intently, hoping for something.
She was sure that Charles had moved.
The sensation on her face was very real.
So, Charles had heard her voice and was responding, telling her he was about to wake up.
Thinking about it, Hannah's tears started flowing even harder, "Can you hear me, Charles? Did you hear me? I like you. We haven't known each other long, but I really like you! If you wake up, I'll be your girlfriend. Let's be together, okay? Your mom and dad are here too. They're all waiting for you to wake up! Open your eyes and look at me, please?"
But no matter what she said, Charles's hand stayed still.
She almost thought she imagined it because she missed him so much.
Hannah, trembling, got up from the chair, ready to find a doctor, when the door swung open.
Austin asked, "Hannah, where are you going?"
Hannah glanced at him, then turned back to sit in the chair, wiping her tears, and said coldly, "It's late, why are you here?"
Despite her cold tone, Austin, though annoyed, didn't show it. He pulled up a chair and sat on the other side of the bed, facing her.
Austin said, "I've been busy in the lab with the professor all day and didn't have time to come by! Now that I'm free, I was worried about Charles, so I came to check on him!"
"I see." Hannah's mind was entirely on Charles, with no desire to chat.
Austin took the initiative to ask, "How's Charles today? Still no improvement?"
Hearing his words, Hannah remembered Charles's hand moving earlier, and her eyes lit up with excitement, "He's about to wake up. I know he can hear me! His hand moved just now. I'm sure of it! He's going to wake up soon, very soon."
As she spoke, tears fell again. This time, they were tears of joy.
It was like she had been walking in darkness for days and nights and finally saw a glimmer of light ahead.
Though small, it illuminated her, like a drowning person grabbing a lifeline, finally finding a shred of hope.
Hearing her words, Austin's eyes narrowed slightly, "Did his hand move just now?"
Hannah nodded vigorously, "Yes, I'm sure his hand moved!"
She laughed and wiped her tears, but the more she wiped, the more they fell. She looked pretty ridiculous, crying and laughing at the same time.
A trace of malice flashed deep in Austin's eyes.
He forced a smile, "It's great if he can wake up! Patricia, Martin, and you can all be at ease."
Hannah kept nodding, her tears seemingly endless, falling continuously.
Austin glanced at the empty glass on the bedside table, stood up, and said, "I'll get you a glass of water. Look at you, your lips are so dry they're peeling."
Hannah neither refused nor agreed.
Austin took the glass to the tea room to get water.
As he came out of the tea room, an old man approached him. The old man stopped in front of him, "Excuse me, can you tell me where Room 11 is? A relative of mine is sick, and I want to visit him."
Austin turned his head and pointed to the room at the end of the hallway, "Room 11 is over there."
Austin didn't know, as he turned his head, the old man quickly dropped a white pill into the glass.
The pill dissolved instantly, leaving no trace by the time Austin turned back.
"Thank you! You're very kind!" The old man smiled eerily, thanked him, and walked away with his cane.
Austin didn't think much of it and returned to the room with the glass.
