Chapter 707 Doubting the Test Results
Looking at Susan's tear-stained eyes filled with hatred, thinking about the innocent Billy who died, hatred surged in Joe's heart.
"Fine! I'll go kill him right now and avenge our son!"
With that, he stormed off in anger.
Susan glared viciously at Joe's departing figure and followed without hesitation.
"Mom!"
Carol stomped her foot anxiously.
Carol turned to Martin, "Martin, is this true? Is the murderer really my father's illegitimate son?"
Ever since confirming that Patricia was Kaleb's biological daughter, Carol had treated Patricia as her sister.
Martin comforted her, saying, "There are still many doubts about this matter. You should go and persuade your mom not to push Joe. Let's wait until the investigation is clear."
Carol nodded, "I see! I'll talk to my mother! Please keep an eye on my dad, Martin. Billy's death has been a huge blow to my parents. I'm afraid my dad might make a decision he'll regret for the rest of his life."
Martin smiled, "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him."
"Thank you, Martin!"
After thanking him, Carol quickly chased after Susan.
Fortunately, Martin and Carol were driving, while Joe and Susan were trying to hail a cab on the street.
Martin pulled Joe, and Carol pulled Susan to the parking lot, and they drove back to Silver Birch Sanctuary.
On the way back, the anger that Susan had provoked in Joe had gradually subsided.
He was now staring blankly at the road ahead.
Martin glanced at Joe through the rearview mirror and tentatively asked, "Mr. Hill, are you really planning to kill Hunter?"
Joe rubbed his face with both hands, his voice filled with endless exhaustion.
"I really don't know."
"Why did things turn out like this?"
After learning that someone else had killed Billy, Joe had made up his mind to find the murderer and avenge Billy no matter what.
When they caught Hunter, Joe thought he could finally get justice for Billy. But the murderer turned out to be his son as well.
Joe was now completely lost and didn't know what to do.
Martin comforted him. "Mr. Hill, let's not be so impulsive. Let's get his hair and do another DNA test."
Joe closed his eyes in despair. "We watched the testing process. Doing it again will yield the same result."
Martin smiled. "Patricia's sister Debbie once impersonated her to reunite with the Koch family. The Koch family also did a DNA test! The result was the same, showing a blood relationship."
Joe was stunned and shocked, "How could that be? Did Debbie tamper with the DNA report?"
Martin shook his head, "No! The Koch family, like us, watched the testing process themselves."
"Then why was the result mistaken?" Joe still didn't understand.
If they watched the testing process, how could there be a mistake?
Martin explained, "If Hunter had once received a bone marrow transplant from Billy, then the blood test would show a blood relationship. But only the blood test would show this. The results from saliva or hair tests wouldn't."
Joe was surprised. "Why is that?"
Martin said, "Because after a bone marrow transplant, they share the same hematopoietic system, which creates the illusion of identical blood test results."
Joe finally understood. "So, you mean Hunter is now using Billy's hematopoietic system?"
Martin replied, "It's just a guess! To be sure, let's take his hair and do another DNA test! Whether he's really your son or an imposter, we'll know for sure then."
Joe nodded vigorously and said, "Alright, let's go get his hair now."
Meanwhile, Carol was also trying to persuade Susan.
From the moment they got in the car, Susan hadn't stopped crying.
She had gone through pack after pack of tissues.
Carol, feeling extremely sorry for her, gently comforted her. "Mom, I just asked Martin, and he said there are many doubts about this matter. We need to get to the bottom of it. We can't wrong Dad!"
Susan, thinking of the recently deceased Billy and now Joe having another illegitimate son, couldn't stop her tears.
"Wrong him? The paternity test report has showed the result. I didn't wrong him."
"If he really wanted to avenge Billy, he shouldn't have done the paternity test."
"No matter what his relationship with the murderer is, the fact that he hesitated and went for the paternity test shows his heart is wavering."
"Do you believe he will definitely not kill the murderer?"
"Billy died so tragically, and his father won't avenge him." Susan cried.
Carol handed another unopened pack of tissues to Susan.
She comforted, "Put yourself in his shoes. If the murderer told you he was your son, would you immediately kill him?"
Without thinking, Susan replied, "I would."
Carol smiled helplessly. "No, you wouldn't! When Billy made so many mistakes, you blamed him, but you still couldn't bring yourself to do anything to him."
Susan was speechless.
Carol sighed. "Parents are like that! Think from Dad's perspective!"
Susan didn't understand why Carol was always defending Joe.
"Your dad is now protecting his illegitimate son. Why are you always speaking up for him?" Susan retorted.
Carol said, "Yes, it's an illegitimate son, but that was before you got married. After marriage, Dad never did anything to wrong you. As his daughter, I can see his love for you."
"Everyone makes mistakes before marriage."
"You can't keep holding onto things that happened before you got married!"
"I don't want our family to fall apart because of Hunter!"
"Think about it, how has Dad treated you all these years? No one else could be as devoted to their wife and children as he is."
"Most high-ranking officials have secret lovers outside. Does my dad have one?"
"He always comes back to be with you after work! He often leaves me and Billy at home to take you on trips, spending beautiful times together."
"We can't deny all the good he's done for us because of his past!"
After hearing Carol's words, Susan fell silent, her mind filled with the beautiful memories of the past years.
Yes! Joe had indeed been good to her.
Most of the men around Joe, once they had some money, kept secret lovers outside.
However, Joe had always been devoted to this family.
After marriage, he had always pampered Susan and never let her suffer any grievances.
Before Billy's death, Susan had indeed lived a smooth and very happy life.
Thinking this way, Susan suddenly felt less resentful!
"Alright, I'll give him another chance! If he avenges Billy, I'll forgive him! I hope he doesn't disappoint me," Susan said.
Carol was surprised. "Isn't that making it hard for him?"
Susan said, "I don't ask him to do it himself, but the murderer must face legal punishment! If he handles it fairly and sends that illegitimate son to jail, I'll believe he still cares about me and our family."
Carol sighed in relief. "I believe Dad won't let us down."
