Chapter 1040 Hannah Went to the Police Station

Austin suddenly sprang up from the bed, all traces of sleep vanishing instantly. "Hannah is missing? How could she be missing?"

Tina said, "When I got back, I found she wasn't home! I checked the surveillance footage right away and saw that she woke up shortly after I left. It seemed the neighbor's dog woke her up with its barking. She couldn't find me at home, so after sitting for a while, she went out!"

"She was muttering to herself, 'Charles, Charles, I need to find Charles. Where is Charles?' It's been over four hours since she left! What should we do now? Even though we're not in the same city as you, this country is so small. What if she runs into someone familiar?"

Austin was extremely frustrated. He had just managed to deal with Carter, ensuring Carter couldn't wake up and expose him for the time being.

And now, Hannah had run away from home. He wasn't worried about Hannah running into someone familiar.

After all, she had never been to this country before, even though there were businesses owned by the Langley family, the Parker family, the Reed family, and the Koch family. But those people wouldn't recognize Hannah.

What he feared was Hannah going to a place with surveillance cameras. If one of those cameras happened to have facial recognition software installed by Charles, Charles would immediately locate Hannah.

Then all his efforts would be in vain. Carter's injury would be for nothing.

Although he knew Charles wasn't capable of installing such software in this country, and Charles probably still thought Hannah was in Country Z, one could never be too careful. Especially in places that require facial recognition.

Even though Austin was very agitated and wanted to curse, he held back and reassured, "Don't panic. Go to the property management and check the surveillance footage to see which direction she went! Then follow that route to look for her. It's still early, so there shouldn't be many people on the streets. It should be easier to find her."

Tina asked, "Should we call the police?"

With the police's help, they would definitely find her faster.

Austin thought for a moment and decisively refused, "No, we can't call the police! The police will log into the system to search, and even though I've prepared thoroughly, any unforeseen circumstances would make things more complicated! You go look for her yourself first! I'm on my way now."

"Okay! Got it!"

Austin suddenly remembered something and said, "I just remembered, we installed a tracking device in her necklace. Follow the tracker, and you should find her quickly."

Tina suddenly realized. "Oh right! How could I forget that?"

When they took Hannah away, they were afraid she might run off, so Austin gave her a necklace with a tracker inside.

"Hurry up and go. We'll stay in touch."

"Okay!"

After ending the call, Austin immediately got up, washed, changed clothes, and called a cab to head straight to the city where Hannah was now living.

Meanwhile.

Hannah wandered aimlessly down the street.

The early morning streets were empty. She kept calling out Charles's name as she walked aimlessly.

She had no idea where she was going. She walked from darkness until dawn.

Gradually, more people appeared on the streets. She asked everyone she met, "Have you seen Charles? I'm looking for Charles! Charles is missing."

At first, people thought she was crazy and didn't want to engage with her.

After asking countless people, finally, a kind woman responded, "Who is Charles? What's his full name?"

Hannah's mind was blank; she knew nothing. She could only shake her head with empty eyes. "His name is Charles."

"If you don't know his full name, how am I supposed to know who you're looking for? If you really can't find him, you should go to the police. The police can definitely help you find him."

Hannah asked innocently, "Police? What are the police?"

The woman was puzzled. "You don't even know what the police are?"

Hannah thought for a moment and realized she really didn't know, so she shook her head again, as innocent as a child.

The woman looked at her strangely, scrutinizing her from head to toe.

"Where are your family members? How could they let you out alone? You look clean and well-kept, not like someone who has no one to care for them. They'll be worried if you wander off like this."

Hannah said, "I need to find Charles. I lost Charles! Charles must be looking for me too." Her voice was soft but firm.

The woman couldn't bear to see her like this. "I'll take you to the police! Maybe they can help you find Charles."

Hannah nodded obediently and smiled foolishly. "Okay, find Charles. I need to find Charles."

The woman held her hand and led her. "Come with me! I'll take you to the police station."

Hannah followed her obediently.

As they walked, the woman asked, "Do you remember your family's phone number? Or I can call them to come pick you up."

"Phone number?" Hannah furrowed her pretty brows slightly. "What's that?"

Seeing that she didn't even know what a phone number was, the woman was at a loss for words.

She knew nothing. Either she had an intellectual disability or a mental issue. It seemed only the police could handle this.

Soon, the woman brought Hannah to the police station.

Hannah looked around, curious about everything and everyone, without any sense of caution.

The woman led Hannah to a police officer and explained the situation briefly.

The officer couldn't help but scrutinize Hannah. "I've been working in this area for over twenty years. I know every street and every household, but I've never seen you before. Are you new here?"

Hannah understood this and explained, "Yes! I just moved here a few days ago!"

The officer frowned slightly. "You're not from this country?"

Although Hannah spoke the language well, she had an accent, and the officer could tell she wasn't a local.

Hannah tilted her head, thought for a long time, and then shook her head.

The officer asked impatiently, "Are you or aren't you? What's your name? Where are you from? What's your Social Security number? I'll look you up."

Hannah racked her brain but couldn't remember anything except her name. "Evelyn Ross, Tina said my name is Evelyn Ross!"

The officer said sternly, "That name is very common here. There are many people with the same name! I need your Social Security number."

Hannah blinked and asked innocently, "What's a Social Security number?"

The officer was at a loss for words.

Seeing the officer's impatience, the woman quickly grabbed his hand, pointed to her temple, and shook her head. "I think something's wrong up here! She can't find her way home! If she could remember, I wouldn't have brought her to the police station."

The officer also noticed something was off with Hannah and sighed, "If that's the case, it's going to be difficult! So far, we haven't received any missing person reports! There are only two options: first, wait for your family to report you missing. Second, I'll take a photo of you and search the database to see if facial recognition can identify you."
