Chapter 944 Almost an Accident

"No, I didn't say I don't want you. I told you, I'm sticking with you. Chill out. Give me your hand, and I'll pull you over."

"That's Charles, the guy who's been into you since forever. Why would he lie? That chick was just a friend. Charles wouldn't ditch you for her. Come on, it's sketchy over there."

"Charles, is what my mom said true?"

"Yeah, your mom's right! That girl and I are just friends! Nothing more! Get down from there, it's dangerous. We can talk about everything."

"Really?"

"Really! Just friends!"

Violet's face lit up, and she put her hand in Charles' outstretched one. He grabbed her hand and yanked her over.

Violet fell into his arms and clung to his waist.

The video cut off right there.

Hannah stared at the screen, totally zoned out. Everything around her spun, and her mind went blank. She couldn't hear or see anything else. Her thoughts were stuck on the video.

It felt like the whole world vanished, leaving just her and the video.

The video's sound was loud, so Stella caught every word.

Stella's anger flared up. "What's Charles mean by 'just friends'? Are you really just friends? Is he having second thoughts about you? Or did Violet come back, and now he wants her?"

The more Stella thought about it, the madder she got. She whipped out her phone to call Wyatt, but he didn't pick up. That just pissed her off more.

"Break up then. So what? He's not the only guy out there! Hannah, don't sweat it. I'll set you up with someone better. How about Randy? He looks like Charles but has a better personality and plays the piano. You two would be perfect. Randy will treat you right. I'll call him now, and you guys can go out tonight." Stella was about to dial Randy.

Before she could, she saw Hannah walking straight into the street.

The light was green, and cars were zooming by. A black SUV was barreling towards her, and Stella's heart leaped into her throat.

All she could hear were blaring car horns.

"Hannah!" Stella screamed, wanting to pull her back, but her feet felt like they were glued to the ground.

Stella watched in horror as Hannah stepped into the street, the black SUV speeding towards her.

Despair washed over Stella, her heart pounding like crazy.

She was so scared that tears streamed down her face.

Time seemed to freeze.

Everything around her slowed down, like someone hit the slow-mo button.

The scene dragged on, but the car's roar was deafening, pounding in Stella's ears.

Just when Stella thought the SUV would hit Hannah, Austin dashed into the street and yanked her to safety.

The SUV barely missed them.

Seeing Hannah safe, Stella's nerves finally relaxed, and she ran over, smacking Hannah in anger.

"What the hell are you doing? Do you know how scared I was? Can't you see that's a road? Do you not care about yourself?" After hitting Hannah, Stella hugged her tight, crying. "Hannah, don't ever do that again. I was so worried. Don't scare me like that again."

She hugged Hannah and bawled like she was the one who just got dumped.

Hannah didn't react at all, just stood there blankly, letting Stella hold her.

Austin was still rattled. He looked at them and asked, "What the hell happened? What's wrong with Hannah? Did something go down?"

Stella ignored him, just holding Hannah and crying.

Thinking about that close call, Stella was still pretty freaked out.

Seeing them not talking, one zoned out and the other crying non-stop, Austin anxiously stomped his foot. "Come on, say something. What happened to Hannah? Why did she try to off herself?"

Hearing this, Stella finally snapped out of it. She let go of Hannah and anxiously said, "Hannah, we can't do this. We can't just end it all."

"Stella." Seeing that she still wasn't answering him, Austin's voice got louder.

At the moment he saved Hannah, Stella suddenly didn't find him so annoying.

Even though she was mad at Charles, Stella still didn't want to badmouth him.

She wiped the tears from her face and asked, "Why are you here?"

It was too much of a coincidence that he was here and just happened to save Hannah.

But right now, she didn't think too much about it. Her mind was all on Hannah.

Austin explained, "My buddies and I were planning to eat here. I just parked the car and saw you!"

Following his pointing finger, Stella saw two of Austin's dorm mates standing not far away, looking at them curiously.

"Thanks for saving Hannah. You guys go eat, and we'll head back first." Stella didn't want to say more. She grabbed Hannah's hand and prepared to leave.

Austin stopped her, not letting her go. "With Hannah like this, how can I let you go? What if something happens?"

Stella shook her head. "It's fine. I'll take good care of her!"

Austin said angrily, "If you could take good care of her, she wouldn't have run into the street alone and almost got hit by a car. If I hadn't pulled her back in time, she'd be dead by now."

Stella fell silent.

It was true!

If it weren't for Austin, Hannah might have already been in trouble.

Stella could have pulled Hannah back just now, but it was like her legs were filled with lead, unable to move.

No wonder people said that men and women's bodies were different, and their reactions in crises and emergencies were completely different.

Seeing Stella still unwilling to speak, Austin sighed and said helplessly, "Fine, I'll take you back! I'll go tell them. Wait for me."

Stella wanted to refuse, but thinking about what had just happened, she broke out in a cold sweat, and the words of refusal got stuck in her throat, unable to come out.

After saying goodbye to his buddies, Austin took Hannah and Stella to the parking lot.

Hannah didn't say a word the whole time, like a robot without thoughts, letting Stella lead her forward.

Stella felt super guilty. Thinking that she had caused this, she felt immense guilt.

If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have introduced Hannah to Charles in the first place.

Now she deeply regretted it.
