Chapter 901 Confession

At D University, in the girls' dorm.

Most of the girls were out on dates or shopping sprees. Only Hannah was glued to her computer, pretending to study.

She stared at the screen, but her mind was miles away.

Charles had been back in Sunset Bay for a month now.

'How's he doing? Is he still out cold?' Hannah wondered.

She missed him like crazy.

She missed him so much it hurt, like, physically hurt.

Since Charles left, she hadn't reached out. She didn't even know how to approach him or who to contact.

Charles was in a coma; she couldn't just call him up. She always had to go through someone else.

Sometimes, when she called, the person on the other end wasn't even with Charles.

Every time she picked up the phone, ready to dial, these thoughts would flood her mind, and she'd end up hanging up.

Even though she hadn't contacted Charles, Stella kept her updated on his condition every day.

Like, Patricia took him out for some sun today.

Or, Martin found another expert to check him out.

Or, his fingers twitched again.

At first, the updates were different every day.

But as time went on, Stella ran out of things to say, and her forced smiles got more and more strained. Her eyes red, voice shaky.

From Stella's face, Hannah knew Charles wasn't getting any better.

No signs of waking up.

In those moments, it was Hannah who comforted Stella, telling her Charles would wake up one day.

He definitely would.

Just as Hannah was lost in thought, the dorm door creaked open, and Stella walked in slowly, plopping down across from her, resting her chin in her hands, looking at her with concern.

Stella said, "Hannah, it's been a month. Are you really not gonna see Charles? Or, I could send them a video so you can see him?"

Hannah shook her head, "No need!"

She didn't want to be a bother.

Stella said, "But it's been a month. I know you miss Charles every day. If you miss him, why not go see him?"

Hannah gave a bitter smile, "Go see him? As what? When he was at Cleveland Clinic, I could visit and take care of him as a friend. Now that Martin and Patricia have taken him back to Sunset Bay, even as a friend, I should keep my distance."

Stella said angrily, "Why are you so stubborn! Even if you and Charles haven't made it official, you like him, and he likes you. That's enough! You said that when he wakes up, you'll be his girlfriend! That relationship is enough!"

Hannah shook her head.

She just kept shaking her head.

Stella didn't get it.

She couldn't keep bothering Martin and Patricia.

She wasn't close to them; all their interactions were because of Charles.

As for Charles's other siblings, besides Randy, she didn't know any of them.

She couldn't keep bugging Martin and Patricia every day, could she?

They had their own lives to live.

Every time she brought up Charles, it was like reopening their wounds and rubbing salt in them, making them hurt all over again.

She couldn't be that selfish.

Hannah decided and said, "Let's visit him during winter break! Let him focus on his treatment for now; I won't disturb him! After winter break, I'll go with you to see him."

Hearing this, Stella's eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly, "Okay! We'll go see him during winter break! I miss Charles so much after just a month."

Hannah felt like she had a brick sitting on her chest, making it hard to breathe.

She thought, 'How could I not miss Charles! But what good does it do? I just gotta bury it deep.'

Stella suddenly remembered something and asked nervously, "I've seen Austin blowing up your phone these past few days. What's his deal? You guys broke up, so why's he still all up in your business? Is he trying to swoop in while Charles is out of the picture?"

Hannah rolled her eyes and sighed, "He's just checking on me, worried I might do something stupid! Even though we broke up, we can still be friends! I owe him big time! If it weren't for him, my dad wouldn't be alive today. I can't just ghost him."

Stella pouted, "He's just playing the guilt card! Someone who really cares about you wouldn't expect anything in return! I think he's just trying to weasel his way back in."

Hannah didn't want to get into it.

She turned her attention back to her laptop.

Stella had a serious grudge against Austin, and nothing Hannah said would change that.

So, she kept quiet.

She felt guilty towards Austin.

Not only had he saved her dad's life, but he had also forgiven her.

She had promised to marry him when she turned 20.

But then she fell for Charles and dumped Austin without a second thought.

Even so, he didn't hate her or rat her out to her parents.

Given how much her parents liked Austin, if they knew she broke up with him because she fell for someone else, they'd probably force her to get back with him, even if it meant putting a knife to her throat.

Just for that, Austin had done well by not pulling any dirty tricks.

He hadn't made her parents force her to reconcile with him.

Because of this, she didn't want to hear Stella trash-talking him.

Seeing that Hannah didn't want to talk about it, Stella wisely shut her mouth and dropped the subject.

But she was gonna keep an eye on things. If Austin tried to compete with Charles for Hannah, she'd step in without hesitation.

Just as this thought crossed her mind, Hannah's phone on the table rang.

The call was from her dad, Quentin White.

Hannah answered and put the phone to her ear, "Hey, Dad."

A tired voice came from the other end.

Quentin asked, "Are you in the dorm right now? Is Austin with you?"

Hannah replied, "Nope, I'm in the dorm alone."

Quentin said, "I'm at the restaurant across from your school, the one we always go to! Your mom and I are here! You and Austin should come over!"

Hannah wanted to tell them she and Austin had broken up, but figured it was better to do it in person, so she said, "Okay, I'll be right there."

After ending the call, Hannah didn't call Austin but changed her clothes. She decided to face her parents alone and explain everything.

She had to tell her parents about the breakup with Austin sooner or later.

Instead of waiting for the right time, she might as well take this opportunity to tell them.

It was lunchtime, the peak dining hour.

Quentin valued Austin highly and had reserved a private room on the second floor to ensure he dined comfortably.

Standing at the door of the private room, Hannah closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. Once she was ready, she pushed open the door.

To her surprise, Austin was there too.
