Chapter 1143 Lassie Stands Up for Hannah
As Hannah was being beaten by the heavyset woman, she somehow found the strength to push her away and ran to Lisa, clutching her clothes tightly. "Mom, help me! I swear I didn't do anything. It was him, he blocked my way and tried to take advantage of me."
Even from a distance, Lassie could hear the helplessness, fear, and grievance in her voice.
Her heart was breaking; she wanted to go over and protect her daughter, to scold these people fiercely.
But she couldn't do anything.
She couldn't get over there.
She was always about fifteen feet away from them.
Her voice couldn't be heard by anyone.
What was going on?
Why was this happening?
Earlier at the hospital, Hannah could see her, so why couldn't she see her now, at such a critical moment?
Lisa, in response to Hannah's plea for help, pushed her hand away with a look of disgust. "Get away from me. Ever since I brought you back, you haven't stopped causing trouble for a single day. You're nothing but bad luck. I can't stand the sight of you."
Hannah hurriedly explained, "Mom, I really didn't do anything. He blocked me, humiliated me, and tried to take advantage of me. I'm innocent. I don't even know him."
The man shouted back, "Hey, you were the one who blocked me, saying if I gave you five hundred dollars, you'd sleep with me. Otherwise, you'd scream assault! I'm a married man, of course, I refused, and then you called them over. Everyone in this neighborhood knows you're willing to sleep with even eighty-year-old men for money. Don't you dare accuse me! You think people will believe you? You whore."
Hearing her husband say this, the heavyset woman got even angrier. She grabbed Hannah's hair from behind and yanked her forcefully.
Hannah's hair felt like it was being torn out, and she was dragged to the ground by the heavyset woman.
The woman straddled Hannah and started beating her.
Lisa sneered, showing no intention of helping, letting Hannah be humiliated and beaten.
Lassie's tears fell uncontrollably.
She desperately tried to rush over, and after five attempts, she finally broke through the barrier and pushed the heavyset woman off Hannah.
The woman cried out, falling to the ground.
The neighbors all turned to look at her.
"Hey, who are you? I don't recognize you."
"Yeah, who are you? What are you doing in our neighborhood?"
"Why are you helping this little tramp? Are you in cahoots with her? Are you both sluts trying to seduce men?"
"Get out of here, or we'll deal with you."
Lassie looked at her hands in disbelief, listening to the insults around her, realizing that everyone could see her now.
Realizing this possibility, Lassie immediately checked on Hannah.
At this point, Hannah's clothes and hair were disheveled, her face swollen from the heavyset woman's blows, covered in finger marks and scratches.
Not only that, but her neck and collarbone were also covered in injuries.
"Hannah, are you okay? Does it hurt?"
Hannah looked at the unfamiliar woman who had suddenly appeared, feeling an overwhelming sense of grievance. Tears welled up in her eyes. "Th-thank you! I'm... I'm fine. I'm used to it."
That sentence was like a knife, stabbing into Lassie's heart.
How many times must this have happened for her to say she was used to it?
Her daughter was living like this.
Lassie gently tucked Hannah's stray hair behind her ear. "Sweetheart, stay here and watch. I'm going to stand up for you."
Hannah looked at her in surprise.
Just as she was about to ask who she was, she saw the woman get up from the ground, hands on her hips, yelling at Lassie, "Who the hell are you? Why did you push me? Why are you helping this little tramp?"
Seeing the injuries on Hannah and remembering the words these people had said, Lassie couldn't contain her anger anymore. She smiled gently at Hannah, then slowly turned around.
As she turned, the smile on her face transformed into a cold, icy expression.
She walked over to the heavyset woman and raised her hand, delivering several hard slaps to her face.
The woman, despite her strength, was too slow due to her size, and Lassie's sudden attack left her no time to dodge. She took the slaps head-on.
She was stunned, clutching her aching face, looking at Lassie in disbelief. "You dare hit me?"
Lassie didn't hesitate. She crouched down, picked up a rock from the ground, and smashed it against the woman's head.
Blood immediately gushed out.
The woman touched her face, felt the blood, and her legs gave out; and she fainted on the spot.
The man who had falsely accused Hannah saw the woman faint and rushed over. "Honey, honey, are you okay? You..."
"And you, I almost forgot about you!" Lassie glared at the man, holding the brick, and smashed it against his head.
The man screamed in pain.
Feeling the warm liquid, he almost wet his pants in fear. "Ah, blood. Blood. So much blood. I'm bleeding so much."
Lassie showed no emotion, feeling her anger hadn't been fully vented. After the first hit, she prepared to strike again.
The neighbors, finally snapping out of their shock, surrounded her. "Hey, what are you doing? We're telling you, this is a lawful society. What you're doing is illegal!"
Lassie glanced at them coldly, sneering. "Illegal? Me hitting them is illegal, but you all bullying an underage girl isn't?"
"She seduced a man. She deserved to be hit!"
"Yeah, yeah! She's young and already seducing men."
"Who are you, meddling in our business?"
"Are you defending her because you're in cahoots? Are you both selling yourselves?"
"I knew she learned to sell her body from someone."
Listening to their baseless accusations, Lassie's anger flared even more. She couldn't hold back and shouted. "Shut up!"
Everyone was scared by her fierce expression and the blood-stained brick in her hand, falling silent.
Though they outnumbered her, no one wanted to get hurt.
No one wanted to risk being hit by the brick.
Lassie glared at them, gritting her teeth. "You all say she seduced men? Who saw it? Who did she seduce?"
Someone pointed at the man. "He's the best witness!"
Lassie sneered. "Him? You all know what kind of person he is. He's fat and sly. Clearly not a good person! And you believe him, accusing a young girl? Don't you have any conscience?"
They were speechless for a moment, then argued, "You don't know anything. Why are you talking? Even if he's lying, her mother wouldn't falsely accuse her, right?"
