Chapter 1032 Life-Threatening Danger

Austin anxiously waited outside the emergency room, watching as doctors brought in bag after bag of blood, rushing in one after another.

Critical condition notices were signed one after another.

The more blood that was sent in, the more doctors went in for consultations, and the more terrified Austin became.

When he saw a nurse running out, he immediately grabbed her and asked, "Nurse, how is my father? He should be okay, right? You can save him, right?"

The nurse replied, "His condition is very serious. The wound on the back of his head is too large, causing excessive blood loss! All our hospital's professors and experts are in there trying to save him. Rest assured, we will do our utmost to save him."

After saying this, she urged another nurse to quickly fetch more blood bags.

Austin felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body. His legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground.

Just then, his phone rang in his pocket.

The call was from Lassie.

Seeing the caller ID, Austin was momentarily stunned and blankly answered the call, putting it to his ear.

He wanted to call out "Mom," but no sound came out.

On the other end, Lassie, noticing his silence, chuckled and said, "Austin! Have you seen your dad? He went on a business trip to Country H this time and didn't tell you because he wanted to surprise you. Even at his age, he still acts like a kid sometimes."

"I saw him!"

Austin finally found his voice, but it was hoarse and heavily nasal.

"Why does your voice sound like that? Are you sick? Do you have a cold? I've told you before not to overwork yourself, but you just wouldn't listen!

Our family has money and power. Once you graduate from college, your dad plans to hand over the company to you.

But no, you wouldn't listen and insist on studying chemistry. You're either doing experiments or on your way to do experiments every day. I'm really afraid you'll collapse one day from exhaustion."

Listening to Lassie's concerned voice, Austin felt even more guilty.

He squatted down, holding the phone in one hand while running his long fingers through his thick hair with the other.

"Mom, I'm sorry!"

The Moore family might not be his biological parents, but they treated him like their own.

They even considered handing over the entire Moore Group to him, an outsider.

And what about him?

What was he doing?

He almost got Carter, who treated him like his own son, killed.

He was a bastard.

Lassie didn't understand why Austin was apologizing and thought it was because of her earlier words. She laughed and said, "Austin, we're family. There's no need to apologize! Your dad and I just want the best for you and don't want you to be so exhausted all the time. Since you love what you do, we support you wholeheartedly. Just remember to take care of yourself and get some rest when you need it."

"Mom, I..."

Austin wanted to tell Lassie about Carter's condition.

But he was afraid that Lassie would worry if she knew.

However, if he didn't tell her, he feared that if Carter couldn't be saved, she might miss the chance to see him one last time.

What if Carter pulled through? Despite all the evidence pointing to the severity of the situation, Austin couldn't bring himself to accept the possibility of losing Carter.

It felt as though uttering the word "death" would somehow make it real, so the words stayed trapped in his mouth, and ultimately, he remained silent.

Sensing his abnormality, Lassie said worriedly, "Austin, are you okay? Is something troubling you? If it is, please tell me. Your dad and I will do everything we can to help you."

Tears welled up in his eyes, and Austin fought hard to keep them from falling.

"Mom, I..."

Lassie encouraged, "Just say it! Your dad and I are here to support you!"

Austin thought for a long time but ultimately didn't tell Lassie about Carter's accident.

Hannah was currently in Country H, and he couldn't let too many people come here.

If Lassie knew about Carter's accident, given the relationship between the Langley family and the Moore family, the Langley family would definitely come over.

Martin was smart, and his children were even smarter.

If too many people came here, the Langley family would eventually find out that he had hidden Hannah here.

He couldn't take that risk.

Carter's condition was still uncertain. What if he pulled through? It would save Lassie from unnecessary worry.

He kept comforting himself with these thoughts.

"It's nothing! Mom, take good care of yourself over there!"

Seeing that he didn't want to talk, Lassie didn't press further and said, "Where's your dad? Give him the phone; I have something to tell him. I couldn't reach him on his phone. He must have accidentally put it on silent again."

Austin felt like something was stuck in his throat.

"Dad's in the restroom right now! If you have something to say, I can pass it on."

Lassie pretended to be serious and said, "Tell him to take good care of you these next few days. If he slacks off, I'll deal with him when he gets back."

Lassie's words made Austin feel a suffocating pain in his chest.

Thinking of Carter, who was currently in the emergency room, he bit his lip hard to keep from crying out loud.

"Okay! I got it!"

"Alright! I'll hang up now! You two have a good chat!"

After ending the call, Austin remained in the same position, squatting on the ground, crying silently.

His legs went numb, and his eyes swelled from crying, but he didn't notice.

He just felt so miserable.

His chest felt tight, making it hard to breathe.

Countless emotions swirled within him.

Seconds ticked by.

Many people came and went around him.

But it was as if an invisible barrier had formed around Austin, keeping everyone at bay.

He didn't know how long it had been when the emergency room door finally opened.

A doctor, looking exhausted, walked out.

"Is the family of Carter Moore here?"

Hearing Carter's name, Austin was momentarily stunned, not reacting immediately.

"Is the family of Carter Moore here?"

It wasn't until the doctor asked a second time that Austin slowly stood up, his wandering thoughts gradually coming back.

Seeing him stand up, the doctor walked over to him and asked, "Are you a relative of Carter Moore?"

"Yes, I am!"

Austin struggled to speak, realizing his voice was terribly hoarse, like a traveler who had walked through the desert for days and nights.

The doctor said, "The patient's condition is very serious. He hasn't yet passed the critical stage and needs to be sent to the ICU for a few days of observation. If he experiences vomiting or internal bleeding during this time, we won't be able to save him."

Austin caught the key information in his words.

"Does that mean if he doesn't experience these two conditions, my father will be out of danger and wake up safely?"
