Chapter 941 Deliberate Sowing of Discord
Charles balled up his fists so tight, you could see the veins popping on his forehead.
In the business world, he was always cool as a cucumber, but ever since Hannah came into the picture, he kept screwing up, and everything was going haywire.
Stella, all worked up, shoved him towards the street. "Why don't you go after her? Do I really need to spell it out for you?"
Charles finally snapped out of it and was about to flag down a cab when his phone buzzed in his pocket.
It was Wyatt calling.
His heart dropped, and a bad feeling crept in.
He picked up, and before he could say anything, Wyatt's frantic voice came through, "Mr. Watson, we got a problem. It's out of control! We couldn't keep Ms. Moore down, and she ran up to the rooftop. The hotel laundry staff were up there, so the door was open. She's on the railing now, threatening to jump! She won't listen to us and insists on seeing you!"
Every morning, the hotel dried the fresh laundry on the rooftop.
The rooftop had plenty of sunlight.
Once dried, they would be collected, folded, and taken to the sterilization room.
Right now, a bunch of laundry staff were up there collecting sheets, and the safety door was wide open, so Violet just waltzed right in.
Charles freaked out for a second. "Tell her I'm on my way."
As he reached out to hail a cab, one had already pulled up, and Stella had the door open, waiting for him to hop in.
After ending the call, Charles pushed Stella into the back seat. "Stella, Violet's in trouble. I gotta go now! Please look after Hannah for me! Tell her I really like her, and she shouldn't overthink it. I'll explain everything later."
With that, he slammed the cab door shut.
Stella angrily slapped the car door, watching Charles sprint back to the hotel.
Charles took the elevator to the top floor, then dashed up the stairs to the rooftop.
White sheets were still flapping in the wind, and Violet was perched on the brick railing, her small body curled up, hugging her knees, shaking.
Carter, Lassie, and Wyatt stood there, looking helpless.
Lassie was bawling her eyes out. "Violet, don't scare me. Come down from there. What if you fall?"
Lassie thought, 'How did sweet, obedient Violet end up like this? Those damn kidnappers, it's a good thing they're all dead. Otherwise, I'd want to make them suffer. They've driven Violet to this point.'
Carter, with his hands on the railing, his heart in his throat, wanted to pull her down, but Violet wouldn't let him get close.
Violet yelled, "Don't come near. I want Charles. He doesn't want me anymore, and he's fallen for another woman. I hate you all. You're all bad people, and you're all bullying me. I want to go back to the coffee shop."
Carter tried to soothe her, "Sweetie, come down first. If you want to go back to the coffee shop, I'll personally take you there, okay? Don't scare me. It took me so long to find you. What will we do if something happens to you again?"
Even the staff who were collecting the bedding had stopped what they were doing, trying to talk her down.
"Yeah! Let's talk it out. Come down first. It's dangerous up there."
"Yeah! If you accidentally fall, it's all over."
"Miss, you're still young. What could make you so desperate? You have loving parents and a good family background, and others would envy you. Why would you want to commit suicide?"
But Violet wasn't hearing any of it, lost in her own world, her mind stuck on Charles. "I want Charles," she kept repeating.
Carter and Lassie were about to lose it.
They spotted Charles coming up and quickly dragged him over. "Violet, look, Charles is here. Come down now."
Violet looked up, and for a second, her eyes lit up when she saw Charles. But then she remembered him running after Hannah, and the light faded. "He likes another woman. He doesn't like me anymore. He used to only like me."
Charles felt a headache coming on.
This was way more messed up than he thought.
If Violet were in her right mind, he could explain things, but right now? If something happened to her, he'd never forgive himself.
"Violet, come down. It's dangerous up there." He reached out his hand to her, trying to stay calm.
Seeing him reach out, Violet shrank back.
"Violet," Carter and Lassie gasped, breaking into a cold sweat.
Charles was scared out of his mind, his voice dropping to a soft plea, "No, I haven't abandoned you. I said I'd stay with you. Be good. Give me your hand, and I'll pull you over."
But Violet shook her head, refusing. "No, I don't want to. You're lying to me. I don't like any of you, and I don't want to see you. Go away."
Lassie was heartbroken. "Violet, he's telling the truth! He's Charles, and he's loved you since you were little. How could he lie to you? That woman was just a friend, and Charles wouldn't leave you for her. Be good. Come over. It's dangerous up there."
Lassie knew it was unfair to Hannah, but right now, she just wanted to get Violet down safely.
Luckily, the safety railing was made of bricks, wide and solid, or she couldn't imagine what might happen.
Hearing Lassie's words, Violet seemed to calm down a bit, looking at Charles blankly. "Charles, is my mom telling the truth?"
Charles clenched his fists, struggling to find the words.
Seeing him hesitate, Violet suddenly grabbed her head, screaming, "My head hurts. You're all lying to me."
Seeing Violet like this, Lassie was about to kneel in front of Charles, but he stopped her. "What are you doing?"
Lassie's face was streaked with tears. "Charles, I'm begging you. I know it's a lot to ask, but I can't lose Violet again. Just go along with it. Once she's calm, you can explain everything."
Charles gritted his teeth, after a moment of inner struggle, he stiffly nodded. "Your mom's right! That woman and I are just friends! There's nothing else! Come down. It's dangerous up there. Let's talk it out."
Seeing him admit it, Violet instantly calmed down, the light returning to her eyes. "Really?"
Charles forced himself to nod. "Really! We're just friends!"
He extended his hand to her and said, "Come down. Let's talk."
Violet immediately smiled, placing her hand in Charles's outstretched hand, and he pulled her over.
Violet fell into his arms, hugging his waist tightly.
Charles let out a heavy sigh of relief.
At least he had managed to get her down.
Little did he know, someone hiding nearby was recording the whole thing.
