Chapter 945 True Love
After getting back to the dorm, Austin finally bailed 'cause Stella wouldn't let up.
The other two girls in the dorm were either with their boyfriends or had bounced home, so it was just the two of them.
Stella stuck to Hannah like glue, scared something might go down if she took her eyes off her.
But Hannah was acting all weirdly calm, not making a scene or anything.
She hit the books when she had to, ate when it was time, and crashed when it was bedtime.
After freshening up, Hannah flopped onto her bed, shut her eyes, and seemed to knock out.
Stella's bed was right across from hers. She lay there, staring at Hannah, wide awake. She kept checking her phone every now and then.
'No calls. No texts. What the hell is Charles up to? Is he really picking Violet over Hannah? Damn Charles, what a jerk,' Stella thought.
Too chicken to go off on Charles, she called Randy and started ripping into him, "You guys are all the same, sweet-talking and making promises you can't keep! What the hell is this now? Jerk."
Randy was caught off guard and took a sec to respond. "Did some dude screw you over? Who? Tell me, and I'll handle it."
Stella got choked up and snapped back, "No! I'm talking about Charles! I know he’s into Violet, and he's been all smiles since she came back. Even if he wants to get back with Violet, he should at least talk to Hannah! What is this now? Ghosting her? Do you know how messed up that is? I hate people like that."
She didn't want Charles to turn into the kind of person she despised the most.
Randy finally put two and two together.
Randy thought, 'Charles must be having drama with Hannah because of Violet, and Stella's got Hannah's back! But she's too scared to yell at Charles, so I'm her punching bag.'
Randy said, "Stella, you got Charles all wrong! I'm sure he's only into Hannah now."
Stella pouted, not buying it. "That's what you think! If he likes Hannah, why did he tell Violet they're just friends? If he really likes Hannah, why hasn't he shown up yet? He's let Hannah down, and I hate him."
Stella thought she was whispering. Hannah seemed to be asleep, so she wouldn't hear. But what she didn't know was that in the quiet night, her voice was crystal clear. Even though Hannah had her eyes shut and didn't move, she wasn't asleep at all.
She heard every word Stella said.
Hannah's hand, hidden under the blanket, clenched into a fist, and tears streamed from her tightly closed eyes.
Randy patiently explained, "Trust me. We're identical twins and have a strong bond! I might not know all of Charles's thoughts, but I'm sure he's only into Hannah now."
Stella was still skeptical and asked, "Then why hasn't he come to see Hannah yet? Even if there's a misunderstanding, he should clear it up!"
Randy said, "Violet got a gnarly brain injury and forgot everything except Charles. If Charles ditched her now, it’d be brutal for both Violet and Carter and Lassie! Carter almost died saving my mom, and we owe him big time. Carter searched for Violet for seven years and finally found her. How could Charles be that heartless? If he was, Hannah wouldn’t even think about marrying him! What she digs about Charles is his loyalty! I bet he wants to see Hannah, but he’s stuck right now! Trust me. Give Charles some time, and he’ll sort it out."
Stella went quiet.
After a bit, she managed to say, "But Hannah’s a mess right now, and I’m really worried."
Randy gently reassured her, "Babe, stick with her for now. Talk to her, and trust Charles. Give him some time to deal with Violet."
Before Stella could respond, Hannah’s phone rang.
The elegant ringtone was super loud in the quiet night.
Stella jumped and quickly hung up the phone, scared Hannah would catch her on a call.
Her sudden hang-up left Randy confused.
In the darkness, Hannah slowly opened her eyes.
Stella also sat up, all excited.
Hannah rarely got calls. Quentin and Lisa almost never hit her up, and usually, only Stella, Austin, and Charles called her.
Austin had just left. So, the call had to be from Charles.
Stella said excitedly, "Hannah, pick up the phone. It’s gotta be Charles."
In the darkness, Hannah slowly opened her eyes, glanced at the phone, and hung up without a second thought.
Stella’s smile froze, and she asked, "Why didn’t you answer?"
As soon as she finished, Hannah’s phone rang again.
Hannah still hung up without hesitation, then blocked his number and also blocked Charles on Facebook.
The dorm went dead quiet.
Hannah calmly said, "There’s nothing to talk about. I already get where he’s coming from and don’t need him to spell it out."
After that, she turned over and went back to sleep.
Stella was stunned.
She’d never seen Hannah like this, so firm, leaving no room for compromise.
'So? Has Hannah decided to cut ties with Charles?' Stella thought.
Hannah’s phone stopped ringing, and then Stella’s phone started to buzz.
Without looking, she knew who it was. Even though she was pissed and blamed Charles for letting Hannah down, she still answered and snapped, "What do you want?"
"Did Hannah block me? I can’t get through to her." Charles’s voice was tight with fear and tension.
Stella was still fuming, so she shot back, "It’s been a whole day, and you finally thought to call Hannah? What were you doing earlier? She’s mad now and won’t talk to you! I’m mad too and don’t want to talk to you."
Charles didn’t respond to her rant but asked, "Where are you now? Are you in the dorm?"
Stella said angrily, "At this hour, where else would we be? Because of you, Hannah almost had an accident this afternoon."
Charles said, "I’m coming over! I’ll be there soon! Find a way to bring her down. I need to talk to her."
Stella glanced at Hannah and said, "I don’t know if she’ll listen to me."
It felt different this time.
Charles said, "No matter what, you have to bring her down. I only like her now and see Violet as a sister."
Hearing his words, Stella felt a bit better.
After hesitating for a moment, she nodded and agreed, "I’ll try my best!"
