Chapter 1014 Discovering Something Fishy

Seeing Charles walking towards her, Hannah beamed with the most beautiful smile and took the initiative to walk over and link her arm with his. "Charles."

Charles' face immediately darkened.

He slowly withdrew his arm from Hannah's hand and said to Stella, "I have something to take care of. You stay with Hannah for me. I'll be right back."

Stella asked in confusion, "The engagement ceremony is about to start. Where are you going?"

Charles replied in a deep voice, "It won't take long!"

After speaking, he emphasized, "It's Hannah's first time attending an engagement party, so she might be very nervous. You must stay with her, follow her wherever she goes. Got it?"

Stella immediately made a salute gesture. "Got it. Mission accepted."

Hannah pouted and looked at Charles reluctantly. "Charles, can't you take me with you?"

Charles forced a stiff smile. "Be good. Wait for me here. I'll be right back."

"Alright then," Hannah said, lowering her head in disappointment.

Charles gave her a deep look and then turned to leave.

Martin and Patricia were both preparing to go to the lounge to get ready for the stage. They saw Charles returning with a gloomy face, walking towards them.

Patricia asked puzzledly, "Charles, the time is almost up. Go stay with Hannah! She might be scared."

Charles didn't say anything, leaned over to Martin's ear, and whispered a few words.

Patricia couldn't hear what he said to Martin, but she noticed that before he finished speaking, Martin's face had already changed, filled with gloom.

Martin asked, "Are you sure about this? Confirmed?"

Charles nodded. "Confirmed! I wouldn't make a mistake!"

Martin said, "I know what to do! You keep her steady, so she doesn't notice anything and act out of desperation, hurting Hannah. I'll have Alan conduct a thorough search."

Charles nodded. "Alright! Inform the emcee to keep it simple. Just a brief hosting will do."

Martin replied, "I know what to do. I'll handle it."

"Okay! I'm heading back now!"

Charles turned and left.

Watching him leave, Patricia asked puzzledly, "What's going on?"

She knew Martin and Charles too well. For them to show such serious expressions, it meant the matter was grave.

Martin didn't intend to hide it from her, leaned over to her ear, and whispered the situation.

Patricia's face instantly changed. "Could it be a mistake? She wouldn't dare, would she? Besides, wasn't she confined in a mental hospital?"

Martin affirmed, "Charles wouldn't make a mistake! I don't have time to explain more. I need to make a call. You stay here. I'll be right back."

Patricia nodded vigorously. "Alright. Don't worry. I'm here."

Martin gently patted her shoulder and then left.

The engagement ceremony proceeded smoothly.

Charles held Hannah's hand and slowly walked onto the stage.

The stage lights shone on them, making them look like angels, a perfect match.

The people below couldn't help but sigh.

Especially the young single women, looking at Hannah standing next to Charles, who was not outstanding in height, appearance, or education, they were extremely envious.

"Tell me, why did Charles choose such an ordinary woman? I still can't figure out where I lost."

"Yeah! No matter what, I graduated from a top business school, and my family is also a prominent one in Sunset Bay! Two years ago, during a blind date, Charles didn't even look at me. I even pursued him, but he didn't give me a second glance."

"Maybe you're just not his type! Haven't you noticed? Whether it was Violet before or Hannah now, they belong to the same type. Although they don't look exactly alike, they have an eight-point resemblance. Charles just likes this kind of look."

"Looks are given by parents. My looks are top-notch even in the entertainment industry. It's impossible to make myself look worse for love, right?"

"Really envious! If only I were the one standing next to Charles now."

"Who wouldn't be envious! The Langley family is the wealthiest in the country, and Charles became the richest in the country at a young age by his own efforts. And then there's the Koch family and the Reed family backing him. Just mentioning one of them is impressive. We can only look up to such top-tier families."

"Have you noticed that Charles' fiancée seems timid?"

"I noticed long ago. She really can't handle the stage. If she's like this in such a small event, how will she manage after marriage?"

"How could she not be timid? With her background, marrying Charles would make her laugh in her sleep. If it were me, I'd be too excited to speak."

"Look at you."

Stella stood in the crowd, listening to everyone's comments about Hannah, and couldn't take it anymore. She shouted, "Shut up! If you dare say anything bad about Hannah again, I'll tear your mouths apart."

Everyone was ready to retort, but seeing it was Stella, they immediately shut up.

Their main purpose for coming here today was not just to attend the engagement party but to meet more wealthy families and pave the way for their families and marriages.

So before coming, they had memorized the people from the top-tier families, especially the Langley family, the Parker family, and the Moore family from the country Z, and the Koch family and the Reed family from country D.

Their goal was clear, to attract men from these families. If they could marry into one of these families, their own families would rise with them.

Even becoming friends with the women from these families would be worthwhile.

They had tried to get to know Stella earlier, but she had stayed by Hannah's side the whole time, not even looking at them, so they gave up.

Stella didn't want to cause too much trouble at such an important event. Seeing them quiet down, she gave them a glare and didn't pursue the matter further.

However, Stella frowned, looking at Hannah on stage being questioned by the host, feeling something was off.

Although Hannah didn't come from a good background, her manners were not inferior to those of these wealthy women, even surpassing them.

In any situation, she wouldn't be overly cautious, timid, or nervous about making mistakes.

Moreover, Hannah was a journalism student.

If a journalism student couldn't maintain basic composure, how could they interview important figures in the future?

Stella's sense of unease grew stronger. But she couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Stella tried to comfort herself, 'Maybe Hannah is just too nervous because she cares too much?'
