Chapter 69 Avenging Patricia
Martin indifferently stepped on Cody's already wrist.
"Ah..."
The excruciating pain spread throughout Cody's body, causing his veins to bulge.
As though oblivious to his suffering, Martin cruelly grounded his shoe on it repeatedly.
Cody was drenched in sweat, begging for mercy in pain, "Ah... I was wrong, I was wrong... I didn't know she was your woman, please spare me, Mr. Langley... I won't dare anymore..."
"Who ordered you?"
Martin's voice was extremely soft, extremely gentle. Like a gentle breeze, brushing lightly against Cody's ears.
But to Cody, it felt like he was in an icy world, shivering from the cold. He dared not hide anything and quickly said, "It was my godfather who instructed me to do so!"
"Timothy?" Martin's face remained unchanged, as if he were asking about an insignificant matter.
Cody nodded repeatedly.
"It's Timothy, he's my godfather, he... He ordered me to do it. He said to arrange for two people to go in and teach Patricia a lesson, not to kill her, just to ruin her face and make her suffer."
"Later, I arranged for Emily and Aubrey to go in. I didn't expect them to be so useless, easily tricked by Patricia. So I prepared to personally finish the task."
Martin emphasized his footstep.
"Ah..."
Cody let out a miserable cry, but dared not delay. He stuttered, "I, I just wanted to teach her a lesson, but she's too beautiful. I thought I could take advantage of her before destroying her. I, I didn't know she was Mr. Langley's woman. If I had known, even if you gave me ten lives, I wouldn't dare to do it!"
Who would have thought that Martin's woman would appear in the detention center?
Someone with such status and background, they enter the detention center, and someone comes to bail them out right after. How could they be locked up for so long?
After listening to his account, Martin retracted his foot. He tugged at the corner of his mouth, and compared to the coldness in his eyes, his smile appeared more sinister.
"Since this is a trouble-causing thing, then let's destroy it and help you solve the root of the problem."
His voice was chilling, as if drifting out of hell.
An icy sensation pierced through the skin and into the marrow. Cody's body shook uncontrollably.
Unprecedented despair surrounded him. He disregarded the pain in his wrists and tightly clung to Martin's legs, begging for mercy. "Mr. Langley, I truly know I was wrong, I won't ever dare again, please spare me! If, if I don't have this thing anymore, what should I do in the future?"
Martin looked at the stain Cody had left on his pants, and his eyes narrowed with malevolence.
One of the bodyguards who had been with Martin for many years had long learned to read his expressions and immediately ran over to drag Cody away when he saw his face wasn't right.
Cody was still wailing and begging for mercy.
"Mr. Langley, please spare me, I truly know I was wrong... I won't ever dare again... Mr. Langley..."
Cody's incessant plea annoyed Martin. He glanced at the bodyguard and said coldly, "Aren't you going to take action?"
The bodyguard, following orders, ignored Cody's wailing and struggles as he dragged him into one of the dark cells.
As they watched Cody being dragged away, the three people beside him had already been frightened to tremble, especially the scar-faced woman and the tattooed woman who had once wanted to harm Patricia. The two of them clung to each other tightly, their bodies shaking uncontrollably.
Then, a painful wail echoed through the sky.
"Ah..."
Followed by a deathly silence.
A strong smell of blood wafted from the cell, stimulating their nerves. The fear of death magnified infinitely.
As if the next moment, they would be just like Cody.
Cody's immediate boss, Bob Campbell, gritted his teeth to hold back the shivering and gathered the courage to ask, "Mr. Langley, I, I didn't harm Miss Watson. This matter has nothing to do with me. Why did you arrest me?"
"Disciplinary failure."
With these concise words, Bob felt a surge of despair.
"He, he is Timothy's godson, just using my name as a formality. It won't be long before he gets promoted. I, I dare not discipline him."
Implied in his words was the fact that he lacked the qualifications and courage to manage Cody's mistakes; the responsibility fell on Timothy.
The smirk on Martin's lips deepened.
"You were completely unaware of this matter?"
Bob, stiff-necked, nodded: "I, I truly had no idea."
Martin took a folder from his bodyguard and threw it in front of Bob: "The seals on here, are they yours?"
Trembling, Bob opened the folder.
Shockingly, it contained a report on Patricia's case, detailing her intentional retaliation that caused significant soft tissue and bone injuries to Manda. It called for severe punishment due to her heinous actions.
At the end of the document were Bob's signature and seal.
Bob was scared out of his wits, his face covered in dense beads of sweat, his clothes soaked with perspiration.
"These, these seals are mine, and the signature is mine! But...the documents Cody brought, I, I...I..."
At this point, it was difficult to continue speaking, and he couldn't articulate any further.
Martin finished his sentences on his behalf: "You didn't even review them, just directly approved?"
Though it was embarrassing, Bob nodded with a flushed face in order to save his own life.
"Yes! Although Cody is my subordinate, I don't have the authority to oversee him, so I directly sign and seal the documents he brings. I, I thought that if something happened, Timothy would always bear the responsibility for him."
"In that case, you can't complain!" Martin lightly flicked his index and middle fingers together, " Punish the hand that signed it!"
Bob instantly turned ashen, nearly fainting in shock, but he dared not cry out for help. He watched in horror as the bodyguard forcibly snapped his index and middle fingers.
Intense pain spread throughout his body from the injured fingers. His face turned deathly pale, as if he could pass out at any moment.
Nevertheless, he dared not utter a sound, expressing gratitude towards Martin: "Thank, thank you, Mr. Langley, for giving me another chance! I, I will definitely discipline my subordinates rigorously in the future."
"Take him away."
Following Martin's command, Bob was blindfolded and taken away.
The moment he stepped out of the basement and smelled the fresh air, he felt a sense of rebirth. He had never realized that wanting to stay alive could be such a luxury.
With Cody and Bob dealt with, only Emily Aubrey remained in the basement.
Aubrey's lower abdomen was still wrapped in bandages, her whole body tensed up. The pain from her abdomen caused her to break out in a cold sweat.
Martin didn't immediately torment them. He leisurely twirled the ring on his thumb, his cold gaze fixed on them without wavering.
Aubrey and Emily felt like condemned prisoners, waiting for a death sentence. The despair of being unable to escape or die was slowly tormenting them.
Time passed gradually.
Aubrey and Emily could only see a complete darkness before them, unable to envision surviving.
The path ahead.
Just as they were on the brink of collapse, Martin finally spoke: "I, Martin, have never stooped so low as to lay hands on women."
Upon hearing this, the two of them showed relief, silently releasing a breath they had been holding.
But Martin suddenly changed his tone and stated, "However, just letting you two go freely leaves me unsatisfied."
Aubrey and Emily's dwindling hope shattered once again.
Yet Martin swiftly turned their hope around, saying, "But there is a way for me to let you go."
Aubrey and Emily immediately asked eagerly, "If you are willing to spare us, we will do anything."
Raising an eyebrow with a smile, Martin cunningly asked, "Anything?"
Aubrey and Emily nodded incessantly, assuring him earnestly, "Yes, we will do anything!"
Martin's grin widened wickedly, but his eyes remained cold, sending a shiver down the spine.
