Chapter 690 Finally Seeing Patricia
When Thomas Martinez received a call from Carol, he, as usual, appeared serious with a hint of indulgence.
"Carol, why did you suddenly decide to call me today? Is there something you need from me?"
Carol deliberately maintained a calm and composed demeanor.
Thomas, I want to see Patricia. You must know where she is being held."
Thomas did not deny it. "Why do you want to see her?"
Carol explained, "To be honest, she is Kaleb's biological daughter. Before they could acknowledge each other, she was locked up. Kaleb and our Hill family is deep in relation. Kaleb asked me to take him to see Patricia for the last time."
Thomas, puzzled, asked, "Why not ask your father?"
Carol replied, "You know how much my father despises Patricia. How could he allow Kaleb to see her? I came to you behind my father's back. Please, be kind and tell me where she is being held."
"It..."
Thomas hesitated.
Carol coquettishly said, "Thomas, you always spoil me! Please tell me! I promise not to let my dad know! Only you, me, and Kaleb will know about this! I swear, no one else will find out."
Thomas found himself utterly defenseless against Carol's endearing coquetry.
"You said you won't let Joe know! If he finds out, my position will be in jeopardy."
Carol smiled, "Don't worry! I won't put you in trouble! Besides, I'll bring Kaleb in to see her, and then we'll leave immediately. My father won't find out!"
After some consideration, Thomas revealed the location where Patricia was being held to Carol.
"Do you want me to take you there? It's not easy for outsiders to get in there."
Carol shook her head vigorously. "No! If you stay out of it, no blame will fall on you! Trust me! I have a way to get Kaleb in."
Thomas, still concerned, cautioned, "Alright! If they don't let you in, don't force your way in. Be careful not to let your father find out."
Carol expressed gratitude, "I understand! I'll handle it! Thank you, Thomas!"
After ending the call, Carol took out something she had prepared long ago, found Joe's seal on the desk, and stamped it in the designated place.
Once everything was prepared, she carefully placed the items in her pocket and drove to the location indicated by Thomas.
On the way, she called Maximilian to meet her at the destination.
Joe had moved Patricia from the district police station's cell to the main area cell.
The security here was stricter than in the district cells.
Only death row inmates were held here.
Visitors were not allowed.
No one could enter from outside, and those inside couldn't leave.
As expected, when Carol arrived with Maximilian and Kaleb, they were stopped at the entrance.
"No visiting allowed here!"
Carol calmly presented an order, stating, "This is an order personally stamped by Joe!"
With a raised eyebrow and a stern expression, she added, "Is this not enough? Do I need to request Joe to come over personally?"
The guard, confused, took the order and carefully inspected it. Seeing that Joe had indeed stamped it, his attitude immediately changed.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Please follow me. I'll take you to see her."
Carol and Maximilian exchanged a glance and followed the guard inside.
Kaleb walked at the back with a woman who looked exactly like Patricia.
Thinking that he would soon see his beloved daughter, Kaleb trembled with excitement.
All the inmates here were on death row.
To prevent accidents, each inmate had their own room with a wooden bed, a toilet, and a sink next to the bed.
Some inmates kept their rooms clean, while others emitted a nauseating stench upon entry.
Having been locked up for less than a month, Patricia had already lost a significant amount of weight. Chronic insomnia had caused sunken eye sockets, dark circles under her eyes, and an overall haggard appearance.
At that moment, she sat motionless in her cell, staring blankly at the only small window, filled with longing and despair.
"Patricia..."
"Patricia..."
Seeing her like this, everyone couldn't help but tear up.
Kaleb's voice choked with emotion.
Upon hearing someone call her name, Patricia thought she was hallucinating again, chuckled, and didn't turn around.
When Kaleb called out again, "Patricia, it's me, I'm here!"
The resonance of the sound this time was strikingly palpable.
Patricia was startled but dared not turn around.
She feared there would be no one behind her.
Hope followed by disappointment time and time again.
She feared another disappointment.
Too many disappointments could lead to despair.
Seeing Patricia's lack of response, Carol hurriedly said to the guard, "Open the door quickly!"
The guard nodded and found the key to unlock the iron gate.
Kaleb rushed to Patricia, grabbed her shoulders, with his eyes red with tears, and said, "Patricia, we're here! What's wrong with you? Why are you ignoring us? Is it because we arrived too late?"
Seeing her gaunt face, Kaleb gently touched her cheek. "You've lost so much weight! You must have suffered a lot!"
The touch on her face finally made Patricia feel real.
It was only at that moment that she was certain she wasn't dreaming.
"I'm not dreaming, you're here, you finally came..."
Overwhelmed with joy, Patricia immediately turned to look for Martin.
After searching around and not finding Martin, her eyes dimmed once again.
Maximilian understood her intention and explained with a smile, "Due to special circumstances, it's inconvenient to bring too many people in."
Patricia lowered her head sadly. "I understand."
Carol instructed the guard. "You all can leave now! We need to have a private conversation with her here. We'll call you when we're ready to leave."
"The visiting time is strictly limited to ten minutes, so make it brief!" The guard nodded, wary of any delay; and after a brief reminder, he left the room.
As he exited, the guard made sure to lock the door behind him.
Carol watched the guard depart until she was certain he wouldn't return, then immediately instructed. "Kaleb, Maximilian, go guard the iron gate. If the guard comes back, alert us!"
Kaleb stole a longing glance at Patricia, then rose and proceeded with Maximilian to the iron gate, where they stood facing outward.
Once they were positioned, Carol quickly turned to Patricia and the other woman she had brought in, saying, "Both of you, swiftly exchange your attire..."
